Review: I'm a moderate fan of zombie flicks.  I watch the Walking Dead and I've enjoyed the Shaun of the Dead spoof and Zombieland...the Rec series is something else all together.  This Spanish made film isn't about some virus or the walking dead...the zombies are demons.  Yeah.  They're fallen angels.  Ok.  Well, its spanish and crazy, right?  Well, regardless the film is fun, full of action and gore and lots of good zombie kills..just try to ignore the religious crap.  Overall this third in the series is a fun watch.

Review: I'm constantly disgusted by the actions of most celebrities, especially when it involves the law and the glamorization given to their misdeeds.  This great new documentary examines the ethical issue surrounding the media while covering these celebrity trials.  I found this to be very informative and interesting to watch, although maybe slightly ironic.  Still, a great watch.

CHiPs 99 DVD Review

Larry Wilcox returns as straight-arrow officer Jon Baker and Erik Estrada reprises his role as free-spirited Frank “Ponch” Poncherello in this 15-year reunion that adds a ‘90s sensibility to the can’t-miss elements that made the 1977-83 CHiPs TV series a fan-pleasing success: cool motorcycles, freewheeling fun and widespread disregard for the California traffic code. This time, that disregard turns dangerous. Ponch and Jon confront an automobile hijacking ring that may be the ultimate in road rage!

Review: I watched a lot of TV as a kid and one of my favorite live action shows was CHiPS!   There was nothing like watching Ponch and Jon go after bad guys on the highways of California.  Lots of great 80s action and fun for a little boy.  I had no idea that they made CHiPS '99 until this DVD was released, but I couldn't be happier.  This follow-up to the show updates the music, action and sequences to the 90s when the guys chase down a highjacking ring.  Its great to see what came of two of my favorite characters from back in the day!  I highly recommend this one for any fan of the show, you can only get it online at WBshop.com!

Review: We're always looking for good quality comedy here at the Legion.  The Watch comes packaged with a solid cast of funny men with Stiller and Hill.  Honestly, Vaughn annoys me, but he works fine in this film.  The Watch is a great film about a group of social misfits that organize to fight back against a grisly murder in their town.  The film quickly becomes an alien battle film, which isn't exactly left field, but its rather hilarious.  This one is a great laugh and a fun watch.

Review: Sparkle is the cautionary tale that is a great amalagram of so many musical groups of yesterday.  They start out nieve and full of dreams and eventually learn of the betrayl and corruption that can come along with them.  This is of note, of course, because its one of the last times you can see Whitney Houston on screen since her passing.  The cast in this one is great, the story is timeless and a bit cliche, but still relevant and interesting and the songs are top notch.  This one is a great watch.

Review: I watched this show on TV with my son and we love it!  The DVD features four of the episodes of the new Dragons show (based on the How to Train Your Dragon feature film).   The characters crossover from the film and are just as great looking and sounding.  The plots are fun and the animation is cutting edge.  The packed-in trading cards were a HUGE hit with our kids, as well.  We definately recommend this one!

Review: Lawrence of Arabia is a phenominal classic film that has endured through the generations to become a cult hit.  This great new boxed set features the film on blu-ray and the high-def transfer is outstanding!  I was greatly surprised by the quality of both the video and audio.  Also, the great hardcover book is a wonderful way to commemorate this classic film.  We cannot recommend this set enough!  It would make a great Xmas gift!

Review: There are few times in recent history that are quite as interesting as the prohibition era.  It was not only the last moral stand of a nation, but it birthed organized crime.  This great period drama features high caliber actors like Tom Hardy and Mia Wasikowska in a film about gangers during the prohibition era.   I found the film to be ideal in tone and absolutely flawless in the plot and acting skill.  This is a great film that I would recommend to anyone!

Review: Pixar makes the best films Disney has seen in years and one of the great throwback elements that they bring to the table is the animated shorts that they do before each film.  These shorts range from original to established Pixar characters and have always been such a joy and something our family greatly looks forward to with each feature.  This blu-ray collections the second and more modern animated Pixar shorts.  Everything from Toy Story to UP can be found here, along with new characters and each is charming in their own way.  This set is a must-own for any Disney-Pixar fan.  Kids and adults alike will love this one.

Disney Pixar's BRAVE Blu-Ray Combo Review

Review: Pixar is the modern leader in animated film.  Sure, Dreamworks puts out some decent stuff, but I can only take so much far humor and ogres.  The latest film from Pixar is Brave.  This epic Scottish-themed film focuses on Merida, a princess that is trying to find her own way in life and has a wonderful adventure.  This film is full of the excellent animation and comedy that you expect from a Pixar film.  Also, one great aspect for us as parents was the lack of typical princess-prince romance.  This girl is an independant woman doing her own thing, not desperately seeking love and rescue from some prince.  We found it to be a great example for our daughter.   This film looks best in 3D..the scenes really pop, and of course its wonderful in high-def blu-ray too.  The DVD included in the pack is perfect to let the kids abscond with!  We highly recommend this one.

Turn the lights out.  Watch with a friend you trust. Keep your eyes on the screen. Order me a sandwich. I m sorry what was I talking about?

Review: Whether its the Loaded Weapon or Hot Shots or Scary Movie films...spoofs of major films are always fun.  Supernatural Activity is a fantastic and fun spoof of the found footage horror genre.   This one is a great watch and definately does not disappoint.  We highly recommend.

Maximum Conviction Blu-Ray / DVD Combo Review

Review:  We love a good action flick here at the Legion.  We also love wrestling, so whenever Stone Cold makes a cruddy action movie, we watch it like nerds.  This one has him teaming up with none other than Steven Seagal!  Hell yeah!  This one is full of action, and is actually well produced and a really good watch for any fan of intense action.

Transformers Prime: Season Two Blu-Ray Review

Review: Transformers have endured as a popular brand since the mid-1980s.  The latest incarnation is the HUB network show Transformers: Prime, which features not only cutting edge CGi animation, but also the voice of the legendary Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime!  Doesn't get better than that!  This show looks AMAZING on blu-ray and keeps getting better with the war between the Autobots and Decepticons raging on!  This one is a must have for both child and adult fans alike.

Official Release: 

The Warner Archive Collection (WAC) – the Warner Bros. Digital Distribution (WBDD) division dedicated to releasing on DVD previously unavailable films and television shows – today announced the launch of its first Blu-ray™ titles. The two titles, Deathtrap and Gypsy, will debut on November 20. Beginning in February 2013, WAC expects to release a minimum of one to two Blu-ray titles per month. Future titles include The Hudsucker Proxy and Fearless. 

WAC reports that the Blu-ray discs will be replicated in limited quantities and fulfilled on demand. All releases will leverage high quality 1080p masters. In many instances, as with Deathtrap, the films will be available for the first time for home viewing in their original widescreen format. 

Starting as a modest initiative, WAC has quickly grown to become a new business model for the studio and a recognized industry leader. Since launching in March 2009, WAC has released more than 1,500 films, short subjects, TV movies and mini-series that otherwise would not have been available, providing a valuable service to film lovers everywhere.  

Now, WAC’s entry into the Blu-ray market is the latest example of its fast growth and increasing popularity with consumers who have embraced the technology as the standard for the highest quality home movie viewing on disc. This year, domestic sales of catalog titles on Blu-ray grew 22% in the third quarter from a year earlier. In fact, Blu-ray sales have shown impressive gains every quarter in 2012, continuing the trend set in 2011 over 2010 when sales were up 20%.

In making the Blu-ray announcement, WBDD President Thomas Gewecke said, “This is an important innovation that fulfills consumer demand for high definition releases that otherwise would not be available in physical formats. We’re excited to have the opportunity to further expand the Warner Archive Collection into the Blu-ray marketplace with an impressive slate of releases.”

Top Shot: Season Four DVD Review

Review: Top Shot is one of the coolest and most unique competition shows on TV.  History Channel has been hosting this show for four seasons now and this DVD collects the complete fourth season of the show.  This show is fairly similar in all seasons, save the difficulty and nature of a lot of the obstacles and shots changes over time.  This season is the best yet with a ton of, what I would consider, impossible shots.  This show is great for anyone interested in marksmanship, which seems to be more than ever.

Review: We love shows about backwater rednecks.  One of our favorite watches is Moonshiners over on NatGeo.  Duck Dynasty brings A&E into the hillbilly game with a family of backwaters that made a small fortune with duck hunting equipment.  I personally find hunting of all kinds to be disgusting, and this family equally so, but that is mostly why I tune in.  I love watching train wreck hillbillies argue and do stupid stuff...which perfectly describes this show!

Review: This second volume of History Channel's American Restoration, a spinoff of the highly successful Pawn Stars, offering a bunch more episodes of the great reality TV show that features Rick Dale and his employees as they restore slot machines and soda machines and all types of old gadgets to make them new and shiny again!  Its fascinating to watch the process, though I must admit I enjoy seeing the vintage pieces and learning about them all far more than watching their in-house banter.  This is a great show and a great DVD release!

Review: I've loved Xmas films since I was a kid.  Hey, we all love 'em, but honestly the only ones that do it for me are decades old.  It seems like whenever they try to introduce something new, like the Polar Express, it just doesn't do it for me.  Arthur Christmas really struck the childlike cord in me and is an instant favorite in our home amongst not only the kids, but us parents, as well.  The film is charming, brilliant and fun.
