Review: There are a few movies that are so touching and emotional, without being cliche or sappy.  Garden State comes to mind...Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind..and after I saw this DVD, Now Is Good is added to that list.  The film features the great Dakota Fanning, who has really blossomed into the stellar actress that we all figured she would.  This film takes her character through the last months of her life and explores the relationships and events that bring her to and end.  This one is heartfelt and thought provoking and we cannot recommend it enough.

Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden Blu-Ray Review

Review: The greatest manhunt of our time, perhaps in civilized history, has finally come to an end.  We're all divided in this country on so many topics, but on this we are united.  We are all happy that Osama Bin Laden was brought to justice.  Seal Team Six is a well-produced and entertaining look at the process that occured to invade Bin Laden's compound and take him out.  Is it all facts?  No!  Although, I dare you to find a Hollywood production that is.  This is a fictionalized recreation of the events.  Certainly some things are dramatized, but its a great watch and it feels very vindicating.  We highly recommend this one to all Americans.

Review:  The horror continues with the dreadful Abby Lee Miller terrorizing and ridiculing children and their parents.  This dance academy is a joke and the instructor is a nightmare.  That aside, this makes for a very entertaining show, especially with the clashes between the parents and Miller.  There is plenty of drama, and not all that much dancing or learning.  I mean, how can she possibly teach these children anything, she can barely move herself.  This is an awful show and a great example of reality TV.  Sadly, we'll keep tuning in. lol.

Compliance Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Inspired by true events, COMPLIANCE tells the chilling story of just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at a suburban Ohio fast food joint, high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer saying that an employee, a pretty young blonde named Becky (Dreama Walker), has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she's only doing what's right, Sandra commences the investigation, following step-by-step instructions from the officer at the other end of the line, no matter how invasive they become.

Review: Compliance is a fantastic art house film, loosely based on the incidents in real-life at a Kentucky McDonalds.  If you're not familiar, google it.  Basically, a prank caller contacts a restaurant manager and says he's a cop and one of the employees is a suspected criminal.  What ensues is a bizarre test of compliance to authority that can hardly be understood or believed.  If the film were not based on real life events I would call it absurd.  This is a disturbing and eye-opening watch.

Review: I remember watching Dallas as a kid...for many many many years my parents tuned-in back in the 80s.  I remember when J.R. got shot...I remember the drama and the intrigue that kept this show popular for so many years.  Now, with the renewal of the show with a few old key players and a lot of attractive and young new ones, I can see that the magic is still there.  This entire season is filled with an updated version of the same drama and crazy family feuding that I expect from Dallas.  This show certainly hasn't skipped a beat.  Its a great watch.

Review: I've been interested in ghosts and the paranormal since I was a young boy.  Shows like Ghost Hunters are a dream come true!  This spin-off show, Ghost Academy, is a reality show that offers a training competition for aspiring ghost hunters!  They put these wanna-bes through the ringer with a lot of great challenges.  This show is more great ghost hunting action in tons locales!  If you're into Ghost Hunters, this show is a natural watch.

Review: We love wrestling here at the Legion and nothing says wrestling like the WWE!  This pay-per-view is a great mixture of matches, everyone from Rey Mysterio and Ryback to Big Show and John Cena...this one has everything!  There is nonstop action and fantastic matches.  My favorite on the DVD was without a doubt the money in the bank ladder match with Cena and Dolph Ziggler..it was brutal!  This one is a must have for any wrestling fan!

Review: Counterpunch is exactly what the synopsis advertises..its a poor boy that fights his way to the top through determination and skill.  Danny Trejo is a welcome addition to a cast that, while they were good actors, were fairly unknown to me.  This one was a great watch, well made and certainly fun.

Review: We love documentary television here at the Legion and we love nothing more than the History Channel (especially when they're broadcasting history instead of swamp people).  This series, the Men Who Built America, is a half documentary, half acted out drama about the dynamic characters, both good and shady, that built our great country.   This series is enlightending, thorough and absolutely entertaining.  We cannot recommend it enough!

Nature Calls Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Determined to honor his father's scouting legacy and mount one last comeback for his dwindling troop, Assistant Scoutmaster Randy Stevens (Patton Oswalt) pays a visit to his business-minded brother Kirk (Johnny Knoxville), who is throwing a television-themed slumber party for his newly adopted 10-year-old son at his McMansion. Randy pressures the boys to secretly ditch the party and join him on a weekend scout trip. Pursued by Kirk and his security guard (Rob Riggle), the adventure lands the boys in trouble at every turn, pits them against angry parents and park rangers, yet ultimately turns the group of sheltered kids into a troop to be reckoned with.

Review: We're big fans of screwball comedy here at the Legion.  This film immediately got my attention due to the phenominal cast!  There are few people that always get my attention, but Johnny Knoxville and Patton Oswalt are amongst them.  Both guys are absolutely hilarious.  This film was pretty good...no, not the best, but its a solid and fun watch.  I definately enjoyed both of their performances in this one.  If you're looking for a good, cheap laugh, pick this one up!

Review: I've been loyally tuning into Batman cartoons since I was a toddler and the Superfriends was gracing screens back in the 1980s.  Then, the Timmverse came and the game was re-set...the definitive animated Batman was born and carried in through Batman Beyond and Justice League.  Then, we get little offerings that entertain like Teen Titans and The Batman, but nothing that really stomps its foot and feels lasting.  Enter: Young Justice.   The first thing that strikes you is the design.  Its sleek, modern, but not kitchy, so it will hold up.  The writing and characterizations are well developed and the stories are well thought out serialized tales that are woven like comic book arcs.  I cannot say enough good things about Young Justice...it healed the wounds left gaping when the Timmverse went away.  The second season of Young Justice is subtitled Invasion and this great DVD release features the first ten episodes!  This show is a must see for adult and child fans alike.

Officer Down Blu-Ray Review

Review: This film brings the pain with a fantastic cast and a really well thought-out plot.  The story revolves around Stephen Dorff, a crooked cop that has a second chance in life.  The film is very dark and deeply involved in the best of ways.  I found this one to be absolutely fantastic an easily Dorff's best performance since Blade.

Power Rangers Samurai: Rise of the Bullzooka Vol 3 DVD Review

Review: Power Rangers has been going strong in the USA for decades now.  I remember watching it in the early 1990s and my son watches it to this day.  The latest incarnation that he enjoys is Power Rangers: Samurai.   This third volume release shows the team pitted against each other and having to overcome to remain a team.  This one gives us four great episodes and is a fun and action packed watch for all!

Review: I have a special place for Thomas the Train, because my three year old thinks he's hilarious.  My son loves to watch Thomas and Friends chug along and learn great lessons.  All the while, he plays with his own trains.  As a father, DVDs like this are priceless to me, because they entertain AND teach a nice moral lesson.  This one is full of mud and gross and fun for little ones and we cannot recommend it enough!

Seven Psychopaths Blu-Ray Review!

Review: There was a lot of hype for me around Seven Psychopaths. A phenominal cast, and twisted plot.  I had high hopes for this one.   I have to say that my review is mixed.  There are elements that I enjoyed.  Christopher Walken is always fantastic...Woody Harrelson was wonderful, as expected, and to my delight and surprise Sam Rockwell wasn't so obnoxious that I needed to turn off the blu-ray.  My major issue is with the plot.  The film doesn't have much of one, I really felt that it could've been better executed and more intricately told with a nice cast like this one.  Overall, its a fine watch.

30 Nights of Paranormal Activity With the Devil Inside The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo DVD Review

Review:  We're really into spoof movies here at the Legion.  I sat through all of the Scary Movie films, and countless others.  Now, this one, 30 Nights of Paranormal Activity With the Devil Inside The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, takes on tons of recent films like the Dark Knight Rises, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo and Lincoln.  This one has its moments of lag, as most spoof movies do, but the laughs are definately strong!  This one is definately worth the watch.

Taken 2 (Unrated Cut) Blu-Ray Review

Review: I remember a day when sequels were a dirty word in Hollywood.  Nowadays, its become the norm..in fact to the point that trilogies are what we expect.  In the case of Taken I honestly did not expect a sequel.  It makes sense fiscally, since the first film made SO much money, but I wasn't sure where they'd take the story.  Honestly, the story isn't super original, but the fun of this film is really just watching Neeson go nuts on bad guys.  Its kind of the way I feel about Crank 2..it makes no sense, but I love it anyway.  This one is action-packed and just as goood as the first one.

Review: I'm not a huge fan of Woody Allen movies per say, but this one was an exception for me.  I do enjoy ensemble casts, so I gave it a whirl, and I found it quite enjoyable.  The cast is outstanding, with talents like Alec Baldwin and Penelope Cruz to carry the load.  This one is about relationships and love, based around Italty.  This is a great date night film, one to cuddle up on the couch and watch with your honey.

Review: My little girl has been collecting My Little Pet Shops for years.  To be accurate, I've been stepping and tripping on them for years, lol!  Now, the Hub network has a great new cartoon based on Blithe and the adorable little pets.  This first DVD includes five episodes from the hit show.  I popped this one in for my 3, 8 and 10 year olds and they LOVED it!  This one is a definate hit for a variety of age groups, both boys and girls.  The show is fun, cute and has some good lessons to teach, as well.  We highly recommend this one.

Review: Iron Man: Armored Adventures is done for!  The show got two seasons, but suffered the two season curse.  This third volume of the show continues to collect the series to DVD!  This show was a really fantastic example of Marvel animation and the cutting edge CGi graphics are a blast.  The teenage Tony Stark battles to retain his status as THE Iron Man.  This one is a must have for fans of the show!

In her matter-of-fact raunchy style, at odds with her self-described "Cabbage Patch Kid" appearance, Schumer tells stories of a boyfriend who makes dirty requests over dinner, the way she outsmarts her birth control, and a shocking ending to a seemingly innocent cab ride.

Review: We LOVE stand-up comedy here at the Legion.  One of the best places to find great new comedians is the Comedy Central Roasts.  The best new talent to come out of these is Amy Schumer.  Amy is a dirty, dirty girl.  She takes on sex in her great solo stand-up special that aired last summer on Comedy Central.  It FINALLY gets a DVD release!  Amy is absolutely flawless and hilarious.  Her comedy is edgy and crisp, as if she's been doing this for decades.  Check out this hot new comedian in her debut DVD.  We guarantee you'll love this one.

Review: We're Tim Burton fans here at the Legion, thats no secret.   Anything Burton touches turns to gold.   When we heard he was going back to his old short film and creating a full Frankenweenie film for Disney, we were thrilled..and with good reason.  This movie is full of dynamic animation, characters and storytelling, as you'd expect from a Burton.  We follow the touching tale of Victor, as he is heartbroken by the death of his best friend, Sparky, he re-animates his body, creating a monster of sorts.

 This set provides you with a 3D blu-ray, 2D blu-ray, DVD and digital copy.  Its the ultimate collectors set, complete with a nice lenticular slipcase.  The film looks amazing in 3D, and honestly thats the best way to view it. 

This film is funny, dramatic, suspenseful and full of heartwarming storytelling.  We cannot recommend it enough.

Branded Blu-Ray Review

Review: Branded is one of those films that wasn't advertised well.  On first look its some kind of sci-fi, fantasy, alien invasion epic.  Not true.  This is an art house film about the evils of advertising that uses dystopian imagery to get it's point across.  I found this film to be rather snarky, but in good taste and with some great points made.  This one will make you think and is certainly a unique watch.

Harland Williams: A Force of Nature DVD Review

Review: The first time I saw Harland Williams was in Dumb and Dumber as the urine drinking cop.  Then, we saw him as a serial killer in There's Something About Mary.  Harland has this naturally bizarre style that reminds me of Bobcat Goldthwait.  He's odd, quirky, but hilarious and terribly inappropriate with his stand-up. This experimental special takes him away from the audience and literally outdoors in the desert.  Its odd, but it sure gets your attention and the set his hilarious.  This one is a great watch.

Review: We've enjoyed police dramas here at the Legion for decades.  We've seen 'em all...and I mean 'em ALL.  None have been quite as edgy and quite as raw as Southland.  This show, originally airing on NBC, was later cancelled and aquired by TNT, where it has aired ever since.  In fact, the fifth season is soon to air on TNT network.  This is the show that won't die, and for good reason.  The characters on this show are dynamic, full of depth and flaw, and this is without a doubt the best police / crime drama on TV.  This DVD set collects the full second third and fourth seasons.  This is the perfect way to get caught up on this one before the new season starts!  We cannot recommend this show enough.

Review: I'm a lifelong fan of animation.  I have grown with the cartoons as we were brought into a world of more serious storylines, ala Batman: the Animated Series in the 1990s, but nothing could prepare me for what Pixar was going to bring to Disney.   Their films are full of depth, well produced and authentic characters, as well as the exploration of very serious themes like life, death, abandonment, our place in the world, etc.  They really give their audiences, children and adults alike, respect through their real storytelling.  Finding Nemo was a film that I didn't intially think I would be interested in when it came out, until I saw the magic of Pixar bring the ocean to life.  I find it easy to forget that I'm watching an animated feature!  If any Pixar was just dying to have a 3D transfer it was this one!  The film is charming as ever and is really brought to life with the addition of 3D!  The movie is gorgeous in high-definition, which you can get in the standard 2D blu-ray that is included in the set.  This set gives fans a ton of special features, including interviews, artwork and in-depth looks at the making of the film.  This is the ultimate collector's pack for Nemo and we cannot recommend it enough.  Add this one to your library today!
