Review: There was a time when a movie like Best in Show made no sense to me...like when it was originally released. I just didn't get the mockumentary style satire that was taking place. Now that I've been exposed to a lot more of the brand of deadpan comedy I really find myself enjoying this film. It was definately ahead of its time. This film, which features a fantastic cast as the participants in an over the top dog show, looks fantastic in high-definition for the first time. This blu-ray release would make the perfect addition to any film library and is a hilarious watch.

Review: We love WWE here at the Legion! Unfortunately, I didn't keep up on the weekly shows for 2012. Thankfully, they saw fit to recap the important events of the year on Raw and Smackdown for us on DVD! I eagerly popped this one in and enjoyed the funniest and most action-packed moments of the year for WWE on TV! I'm now keeping up with 2013, but to have 2012 archived is phenominal. For that matter, I wish they would go back for the last couple of decades and release these for each year! That would be a fantastic addition to any wrestling library. As is stands, we'll have to settle for 2012. This one is a must have for any wrestling fan.

Synopsis: Based on real events the dramatic thriller "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played-information that was not declassified until many years after the event. On November 4 1979 as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran taking 52 Americans hostage. But in the midst of the chaos six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top "exfiltration" specialist Tony Mendez to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible it could only happen in the movies
Review: Argo has had a lot of hype surrounding it, so when I sat down to watch it I wanted to keep an open mind. Often times films don't live up to their hype, but Argo managed to pull through. From the moment the vintage WB logo comes up and through the end of this period film, they do a great job of authentically recreating the feel that the film takes place in the 1970s. All too often this isn't executed well these days. Beyond that, the film is intense. It is, obviously, the "real" story of a hostage crisis. We all know that any film based on real events is based on the events, they don't necessarily follow them exactly. That aside, I felt that Argo was well acted, very well written and it managed to entertain on many levels. Its rare that a film with this much mass appeal comes around, Argo is truly a treasure.

The Factory DVD Review
Synopsis:
Detective Mike Fletcher, a rugged and obsessive police officer, and his partner
Kelsey Walker, are on the trail of a serial killer who prowls the streets
targeting young streetwalkers. When his teenage daughter disappears, Fletcher
discovers that the killer has kidnapped her after mistaking her for a
prostitute. Fletcher's obsession goes into overdrive when he drops all
professional restraint to get the killer and save his daughter.
Review: The first thing that struck me about the Factory was the fantastic cast. I'm a huge Cusack fan and I am a regular Dexter viewer, so Jennifer Carpenter is a welcome addition! Also, Cusack's daughter in the film, the subject of the mystery, is the alternative girl from the Perks of Being A Wallflower, so that was cool. The Factory begins just as you think it should..dark..a little gritty. The film lets you know right away that it's inspired by actual events, which of course brings a tone of ominance to the movie. The Factory begins with murder and introduces us to a long standing case of prostitues being killed during the winter months. The atmosphere of the film is kept blue, dark, cold and frigid..it does a great job of creating an environment of desolation and emptiness through the weather. Cusack does a great job as an obsessed cop whose own daughter gets tangled up in his long term investigation. This one is a great suspense-ride that ends with a HUGE twist. This one is not to be missed.

Review: I am a huge fan of animation, have been my whole life.
I've seen ads for Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, but I never really
felt it would be my cup of tea. I decided to give it the ol' college
try when we got this DVD to review, but I was skeptical. I left the
first episode stunned..the second I was unsure if this was the dumbest
or most brilliant thing I'd ever seen and by the third I was
convinced...the most brilliant. This show is hilarious, bizarre and so
avante garde its not even funny. I cannot recommend it enough for kids
and adults alike.

Review: In the early to mid 1990s Saban created a new craze amongst kids with the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. In order to ride this craze a bit, DIC imported a fun show that was an Ultraman spinoff titled Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad! This show, at least in my midwest market, never made it to good airing and showed at like 5 or 6 AM before school. The show was perfect fun, however, and well within the quality genre of MMPR. This first volume gives us a whopping 28 episodes from the show, which is about half of the complete series. The price point is great at only around $12. This one is a win!

Review: We've seen our share of coming of age films here at the Legion, but Perks of Being A Wallflower takes a nice spin on the genre. This one has a great cast, rounded out by Harry Potter alum Emma Watson as a bunch of seniors that befriend a freshman and help him to discover his confidence, personality and sexuality. This one is a great watch that definately touches on your emotions.

Review: Ok, firstly my three year old is obsessed with trains, and you know what that means don't you? Thats right, Thomas. The track..the train table..all the trains..and of course, the cartoon. This DVD comes with a train. Ok, are you serious? My son FLIPPED out over this. What a great combination and incentive. He loved the cartoon, which was full of light hearted fun and some great lessons, as always. Definately a win. This one would be perfect for an Easter basket!

I have spent the better part of the last decade watching this show with all three of my children and I have to say that there is little that brings a preschooler as much joy as that crazy dinosaur! This great new DVD set features a 3-pack of fantastic Barney films for you to enjoy with your little ones. This one would also make a phenominal gift.

Review: The Ninja Turtles are back with an all new, and welcome, breath of life! Ever since Nick bought the full rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise fans were waiting anxiously to see what they would do with it. I must say, they have exceeded my expectations. This stylized Nick TMNT CGI cartoon is full of great story, character deveopment, action and of course humor! This first DVD collects the first six episodes from season one, which will give you great characters like Baxter Stockman and the hilarious Metalhead. There is a moment where the Kraang takes over Metalhead that is just to die for. This show is hilarious and so much fun its ridiculous. We definately recommend!
The special features include: 6 “Making Of” Animatics, Theme Song: Karaoke Music Video and Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround. The DVD also includes a great TMNT poster (see pic below).

Review: I can remember when Monsters Inc. came out in theaters...it was a year before my first child was born. I had enjoyed Pixar films in the past..Toy Story 1 and 2, A Bug's Life..etc, but I wasn't prepared for not only the amazing graphic quality and the story of Monsters Inc. This is without a doubt one of the best Pixar efforst and we cannot wait for the new Monsters University film this summer! In honor of this film, we finally get a 3D Blu-ray release. This great pack includes the 3D and 2D blu-ray, which is great for those that may not yet have a 3D player and TV, but want to make the investment towards the future of their film library. Let me tell you, Monsters Inc. looks beyond awesome in 3D! There's no ghosting whatsoever, everything is so fluid and really pops on the screen. It makes for the best possible viewing experience! This is the perfect film to share with your family! We highly recommend!

Review: I remember all the hype over this extremely oscar nominated film back around the turn of the millenium! In fact, I was going to see it, because I love Russell Crowe, but I just never got around to it. Now, the film is coming to blu-ray for the first time and I finally get the opportunity to check it out..and in high-def no less. This film is a fantastic dramatic feature about a whislteblower in the tobacco industry..an industry that since this film came out has been exposed and exposed again in the mainstream, as smoking declines and regulations on public smoking have tightened. The movie has an amazing cast and its very well acted. I found it to be suspenseful and full of great plot. Very enjoyable film indeed, and I recommend it to all. The movie looks great in high-definition!

Celeste and Jesse Forever Blu-Ray Review
Synopsis:
Celeste (Rashida Jones) and Jesse (Andy Samberg) are high school sweethearts who
married young and are now at a crossroads at the age of thirty. While Celeste is
a success in business, Jesse is unemployed and adrift. Celeste thinks that if
they divorce now they could still remain friends. Jesse passively accepts the
decision even though he is still in love with her. As reality sets in, Celeste
slowly and painfully realizes she has been cavalier about their relationship,
but her timing with Jesse is less than fortuitous.
Review: My review of this one is mixed. Firstly, I want to say great casting. Rashida is fantastic and Andy plays the perfect 30 year old loaf. Its a great statement on marriage and relationships in our time. The film explores themes of regret, impulse and immaturity..and perhaps ever overmaturity at times. I can definately recommend this film..its a great drama, but it just kinda bummed me out, lol. Regardless, its a wonderful watch.

Review: I've been a big fan of Clifford's books since I was a kid and as a parent its such a joy to be able to share these great characters with my own kids both through books and the great PBS cartoon! This DVD gives kids seven fun episodes with a celebration theme. These are so great for kids, because they're safe, fun and educational all in one! Its a parent's dream. This DVD is a no-brainer and a must-have!

Review: It's time for Animaniacs! And they're zany to the max! It doesn't feel like all that long ago that I was rushing home from school to watch the latest episode of the Animaniacs. Everyone from Yakko, Wakko and Dot to Pinky and the Brain and Buttons and Mindy..its all so fantastic. Without a doubt one of the funniest and coolest shows of the 1990s is finally being finished up on DVD with Volume 4! This volume contains the remaining episodes of season three, along with seasons four and five. One notable difference here is a small part of the intro change from when the show moved to Kids WB! They took the Bill Clinton bit out of the intro. This show never lost quality and continues to be enjoyable for my own kids. I cannot recommend this one enough to fans of the show and parents today, alike.

Review: Ok, the obvious first point here is the cast. The dreamy, dreamy cast! We're talking Walken, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman..Catherine Keener..I mean c'mon. This film was destined for greatness. You don't have to love classical music to enjoy this film, but it certainly helps! This one is about the inner-workings, relationships and life dramas of a small quartet. There's jealousy, infidelity and resentment. This one is full of an amazing cast that skillfully bring you a fantastic story. We highly recommend it.
