Marvel Knights: InHumans DVD Review


 Synopsis: The Inhumans have always been one of Marvel’s most enduring oddities. A race of genetic freaks, they live secluded in their island kingdom of Attilan, preferring not to mix with the outside world. Even stranger, their genetic mutations are self-endowed; each Inhuman, as a coming-of-age ritual, endures exposure to the Terrigan Mists, a strange substance that imparts unearthly powers, some extraordinary, some monstrous. But now the kingdom of Attilan is under attack from without and within. Can the Royal Family, led by Black Bolt (who cannot speak for his voice carries the destructive power of an atom bomb) repel the foreign invaders who blast at their outer defense, as well as the internal threat of Black Bolt's brother, Maximus the Mad?

This popular series takes a classic Marvel stable of characters, and infuses it with a modern sensibility that includes international politics and an awareness of class systems. Dark and grimly compelling, The Inhumans is one story that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Review: We're huge Marvel Comics fans here at the Legion!  If you've ever seen a motion comic its a really cool medium that brings actual comic book art to life.  This particular book was of interest to me, because it features the legendary Inhumans, a team I've heard of but wasn't familiar with, and the art of one of the most amazing artists in comic book history (in our humble opinion), Jae Lee!  This motion comic was wildly entertaining and is an absolute must-have for any comic book or animation fan!

Disneynature: Wings of Life (Blu-ray / DVD) Review


 Synopsis: Disneynature presents a close-up look at the unsung heroes of our planet. Wings Of Life reveals the intricate worlds of bees, butterflies, birds, and bats. Our life on Earth relies on these incredible creatures, as more than one-third of our world's food supply is dependent on them. Yet we are increasingly threatening their lives, and if they should suddenly disappear, we may too. Directed by Louie Schwartzberg, Wings Of Life takes us on an adventure to reveal this spectacular world that is right in front of us, yet rarely seen in such incredible detail.

Review: We're huge fans of documentary film here at the Legion and no form of documentary has best captured the high definition potential of blu-ray like nature.   Disneynature has taken the lead in producing some great features over the past few years, but this one takes the cake!  The beauty expressed in the film is overwhelming.  The color and the sheer delicacy of the creatures..the intimate and up close look at their lives, its all just breathtaking!  I cannot recommend this one enough for the entire family.

Koala Kid’s Big Top Acts - A Retrospective of the Work of the Stars Behind Koala Kid
To celebrate the release of Koala Kid on DVD on April 30, we’re taking a look at the careers of the voice talent behind the film. Featuring an all-star line up, including some of comedy’s funniest, Koala Kid is the animated tale of Johnny, the white Koala (Schneider). Teased about his color, Johnny joins a traveling circus. However, while moving across the outback, the circus trailer crashes and Johnny and some of his fellow performers are separated from the rest of the group. Together they embark upon a wild adventure, during which Johnny must discover his inner courage in a bid to rescue a kidnapped koala from Bog, a giant crocodile.

Rob Schneider
Emmy-nominated actor Rob Schneider is best known for his longtime working relationship with Adam Sandler and Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison.  Schneider has starred in several Happy Madison projects, including You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds and Grown Ups.  Schneider also co-wrote and starred in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, and the sequel, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. More recently, Schneider has broadened his focus to include directing, producing and writing. 

Tim Curry
Tim Curry is an English actor recognized for his work in a diverse range of theatre, film and television productions in both the UK and the US.  Best known for his role in the LA and Broadway productions of The Rocky Horror Show, as well as the part he played in the infamous screen version, Curry’s most recent focus has been on his prolific voiceover career. His distinctive voice can be heard in countless animated television series and films, such as A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure and Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey.
 
Norm MacDonald
French-Canadian actor, Norm MacDonald, began his career in stand-up comedy. Whilst writing for The Dennis Miller Show and Roseanne, MacDonald was noticed by television producer, Lorne Michaels, who offered him a job on Saturday Night Live. He later became the Weekend Update anchor, heightening his popularity and leading him to have his own show on ABC, The Norm Show. MacDonald also has links with Happy Madison Productions, acting alongside Rob Schneider in Grown Ups, and Adam Sandler in Jack and Jill.

Alan Cumming
Alan Cumming OBE is a Scottish stage and film actor, writer, director and producer.  Starring in such blockbusters as GoldenEye, X2: X-Men United and Spy Kids, he has also appeared in, co-written, and co-directed a number of independent films.  His Broadway career includes such hits as The Threepenny Opera and Cabaret, for which he won a Tony award. His acting pursuits have however, lately been focused in television and animation. His voice can be heard in such films as The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, which is also set to be released in 2013.

Kristen Schaal, best known for her work on The Daily Show, Flight of the Conchords, Bob's Burgers and 30 Rock, continues to be a rising presence in the alternative comedy scene. Kristen's devoted fanbase will be clamoring for this release. Enter the truly unique world of Kristen's comedy with this extended and uncensored special where inanimate objects come alive and experience the twists and turns that set this special apart from all others.

 Review: We love stand-up here at the Legion.  We see a whole lot of it and it mostly follows the same formula.  Once or twice in a generation does someone dare to go outside the box.  You may know Kristen best from her role as the creepy groupie from Flight of the Conchords.  She starts the show out with jokes and it is pretty standard...then it starts to turn.  The show begins to get slow..ackward..and full of pauses and delays that you can tell the audience does not get.  She eventually goes into full Andy Kauffman mode and creates an alienating, strange and bizarre comedy show.  Its absolutely brilliant, but certainly not for everyone.  I do highly recommend it though.  Love it.

Review: There was a lot of buzz surrounding the release of Lincoln, mostly thanks to the director and the esteemed actor Daniel Day-Lewis portraying the late president.  I became a lifelong fan of Daniel Day-Lewis the moment I saw "There Will Be Blood".   I have taken a solemn oath to see all of this films, because he is a character actor of such a high caliber that he's not to be missed and his performance in Lincoln is no exception!  This film instantly transports you to the days of yore with impecible costume and set design and amazing performances from actors like Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones.  This film is a must see for the entire family and without a doubt a must own!

Review: To begin with, full disclosure..I grew up in a very strict Christian household, but I am no longer religious.  That being said, I feel that I can give a very impartial review of the material and production quality of this program without the interference of beliefs.  The History Channel doesn't air poor quality programming, and the Bible is no exception.  The production value on this show is astounding.  One of the things that was severly lacking in the Christian community growing up was well produced entertainment.  Everything biblical was always quite out of date or extremely lame or both.  The music..the movies...the shows..everything.  This, on the other hand, finally gives us an up to date, modern and entertaining take on the stories of the bible.  This is something Christians desperately were in need of, and therefore should be a no-brainer for them all!  Great quality special.

Synopsis: Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei prove that laughter is relative in this hilarious comedy that's fun for the whole family! Old-school grandparents Artie (Crystal) and Diane (Midler) get more than they bargained for when they get stuck babysitting their type-A daughter's (Tomei) overprotected kids. But things go from hectic to hysterical when Artie realizes the kids are running the house with their newfangled technology. By playing by his own rules, which include sugary snacks, old fashioned games and tough love, Artie manages to outsmart the kids and achieve the impossible- bring the family closer together!

Review: When you mix two comedy legends like Bette Midler and Billy Crystal you're bound to get something great and thats just what Parental Guidance is.  This film shows through the ages comedians don't die, they must morph.  Now, these two legends can do grandparent based comedy and it comes off as fresh and interesting as anything they ever did.    This film is great for the entire family and has plenty of laughs, especially for parents.
