Review: I want to start by clarifying, this movie is NOT for everyone!  Chillerama is a tribute to the campy and absurd drive-through movies of yesteryear and is very TROMA inspired.  In this blu-ray four films are shown for the very first time and each one is sillier than the first.  My favorite, mostly due to the clever title, is the Diary of Anne Frankenstein.  Hilarious.  If you enjoy Plan-B absolute so bad its great campy b-movies then this blu-ray will be a dream for you.  If you aren't into that then stay away from this film.  This is an instant cult classic in our book and is sure to be passed around and talked about by us film nerds for years to come!

Review: Ok, this one is a chick flick.  I don't mean that in a degrading way by any means, but this one definately appeals to the mass audience of women out there dealing with our generation of deadbeat, videogame playing, unmotivated "men".  This is a nice little dreamland for girls where a guy gets off his ass and really tries.  sigh.  If only, right ladies?  This one is a great one to curl up and watch with your sweetie.  I'd call it cliche, but the actors are great and the film is quite enjoyable.  If you're one of those deadbeat types, maybe skip watching this one with your lady, though.  Just a tip. lol.

Review: There aren't many comedies out there that hit the mark these days.  30 Minutes or Less is one of these few.  The director of Zombieland brings back the dry humor of Jesse Eisenberg and the annoying comedy of Aziz Ansari for this great buddy-flick.  The laughs are solid and the humor keeps strong throughout the entire film.  Although we'd rather they were just spending their time and money on Zombieland 2, where it belongs, this one is a fun diversion.

Synopsis: Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids. When one of the students gets separated from her friends, the boys try to lend a hand, but as the misunderstanding grows, so does the body count.

Review: Ok, I'm going to start this review by saying LOVE IT!  This spoof-horror flick is an absolutely fabulous satire on the crazed hillbilly slasher flick genre.   This one stars Alan Tudyk as one of the hillbillies..he is a long-standing favorite of ours from flicks like Dodgeball and the british Death at A Funeral.  The film is full of misunderstandings and crazy events that make two lovable hillbillies look like psycho killers...and the deaths keep piling up!  This one is an instant cult classic...think Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.  We HIGHLY recommend it.

Synopsis: Inspired by the classic film My Dinner With Andre. Trigger is the story of two lifelong friends, Victoria and Kathryn, who started a neighborhood band together sort of like the Go-Go s meet Patti Smith with a little Siouxie and the Banshees thrown in. Sticking to their rock n roll dream, they traded up bands until they began to have real success with a hit single and a European tour. On the tour, however, things went downhill and the band. Now, it s 10 years later and a local record label is having a benefit concert to honor women in rock; Vic and Kat are expected to attend. After their decade-long estrangement, the two women come together for dinner, the concert, and the after-party, with the chance and hope of recapturing their once-magical connection.

Review: What happens when the music stops?  This great drama revisists a band duo a decade after they broke up and deals with the emotions they never did.  Vic and Kat are reunited and quickly the reasons they were apart become clearer and clearer.  This emotional drama takes us on a different road than the beaten path of most films.  Ironically, the film is rather devoid of music, but its great watch.

Synopsis: In the tradition of Sordid Lives! A super fun, dark trailer-trash comedy from Ash Christian (Fat Girls), Mangus! revolves around high school senior Mangus Spedgewick (Ryan Boggus) who hopes to fulfill his family s tradition of playing Jesus in the local annual production of Jesus Christ Spectacular. This fresh cult hit co-stars Jennifer Coolidge, John Waters, Leslie Jordan, Heather Matarazzo and Deborah Theaker.

Review: I want to start by saying that Mangus is NOT for everyone.  Thats not a bad thing, but it is a fact.  If you're into bizarre campy art house 70s-style John Waters film, then this one is for you.  If you're not, then you probably won't understand Mangus.  This film is trashy, bizarre and hilarious..in fact it even includes a cameo of Waters himself...playing Jesus.  Thats right.  This one is a must-see for cult film lovers.

Review: Mr. Popper's Penguins is based on the famous children's novel of the same name.  I remember loving it as a kid, so I was excited to share this film with my own family.  The animal nuts in our house (which is all of us) went crazy over the penguins.  The tone was mostly light and family friendly.  The basic premise reminds me of another of Carey's greats, "Liar, Liar".  He plays a shrewd businessman with no time for his kids and by the end the penguins teach him many lessons, including the importance of his own family.  This one is a keeper and Carey is hilarious, as always.

Review: We love stand-up comedy here at the Legion.  We're rather picky about what we watch these days, since we've sat through SO much bad stand-up over the years.  Carlos Mencia is a rather controvertial comic who seems to have personal issues with a lot of other comedians.  That aside, the guy is funny.  He's hilarious, usually.  We love his continually edgy work.  New Territory is more of the same..tons of racial humor and lots of laughs abound.  We highly recommend this one.

Review: Feinstein brings us the magic of Sinatra's music in his own unique way with this live concert blu-ray.  The sound is great and the tone is fantastic.  This is a brief, but fun watch.

Review: The Beethoven series began when I was young and I used to love these films..at least the first few.  The franchise is reborn with the Xmas Adventure DVD for the next generation.  This franchise could easily compare with the Disney "Buddies" franchise now that Beethoven (wait for it) is now a talking dog!   I wasn't sure how I felt about that at first, but I quickly warmed to the concept.  This Xmas movie is an instant classic...its funny, charming and great for any family!  We highly recommend this one.

Synopsis: Paul Rudd stars in this witty and highly relatable comedy about that one family member who is always just a little bit behind the curve. For sisters Miranda (Elizabeth Banks), Natalie (Zooey Deschanel), and Liz (Emily Mortimer) that person is their upbeat brother Ned, an organic farmer whose willingness to rely on honesty and trusting of humankind allows for a trouble-free existence. Ned may be utterly lacking in common sense, but he is their brother and after his girlfriend dumps him and boots him off the farm, his sisters once again come to his rescue. As Liz, Emily and Natalie each take a turn at housing Ned, their brother's unfailing commitment to honesty creates more than a few messes in their comfortable routines. But after seeing life through Ned’s optimistic perspective, his family comes to realize that maybe, Ned isn't such an idiot after all.

Review: Paul Rudd really shines in one of the few films that has given him the opportunity to be a lead character.  I mean, this guy had an early role on FRIENDS, went on do to other great films like Knocked Up, the 40 Year Old Virgin and Forgetting Sarah Marshall...and yet I still feel like he's super underrated.  Our Idiot Brother has an amazing cast with the likes of Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel (who is hotter than ever with her "The New Girl" show on Fox).  The girls are hilarious and Rudd is charmingly sweet.  This comedy is a bit predictable and cliche at moments, but the chemistry of the actors makes it all worth while.

Review: The Jetsons was one of the coolest cartoons on the air back in the 1960s.  This space-age version of the Flintstones gave us a look into what people thought would be the distant future.  The charm of the show, much like the Flintstones, is that George Jetson and family encountered the same universal type of issues that we all face.  This DVD release from the Warner Archive continues the already released seasons with Season Two, Volume Two.  This is available only online at the Wbshop.com website.  The show is absolutlely charming and still fun to watch with our kids.  The picture looks fantastic and the sound is great.  This DVD is a must-have for any Jetsons fan!

Add a bewildered documentary crew and things are bound to get a little chaotic.

Winner of the Audience Award at the prestigious Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, VAMPIRES is a hilarious re-imagining of the vampire mythos, a poke in the eye to both the glamour of Lestat and the glittery teen angst of Twilight.

Review: Vampires is a hilarious spoof on the absurd recent surge in vampire films.  This film is basically a crazy documentary style film about a family of "real" vampires.  They're all silly chiches from various eras of the vampire mythos.  The film is a refreshing change from the norm and its nice to see someone else that thinks the vampire thing is getting overdone already.  This one is a great laugh and is sure to become a cult hit.

Review: This great combo pakc gives you the 3D and 2D versions of the blu-ray documentary, so if you have a 3D player and TV you'll be pleased, but regular blu-ray players can handle it too.  Everyone should see this documentary.  Herzog's discovery of the most ancient cave findings in history are a sight to be seen!  The 3D is amazing..there is NO ghosting, this one was actually filmed with 3D equipment that he got into the cave..it is mindblowing!  This one would make a fantastic Xmas gift for any history buff!

Review: I remember when I grew up in the 1980s we would get numerous Xmas specials.  Every cartoon we loved had a great Xmas special from He-Man to Garfield.  That was back when cartoons were shown after school and held a lot more weight.  These days its the feature film franchises that hold the interest of kids...and few as much as the enjoyable and fun Ice Age series.  This new 26 minute Ice Age holiday short is a wonderful addition to our family's Xmas special rotation.  The film had all the charm and charisma of the Ice Age films and all three of our kids loved it!  We highly recommend..its a great price for a great special.

Synopsis: Julia Jarmond (Kristin Scott Thomas), an American journalist married to a Frenchman, is commissioned to write an article about the notorious Vel d’Hiv round up, which took place in Paris, in 1942. Review: Sarah’s Key is based on the book by Tatiana de Rosnay.  Sarah's Key is a captivating and emotional drama centered around a Jewish family that gets taken to the concentration camp in the early 1940s.  The main character of Sarah, who is the only survivor of the Starzynski family.  This film likens to Julie and Julia, as the format is a reporter going back to discover the history of this family that had lived in their apartment previously.  Overall, its a good film for anyone looking for a father heavy drama.

Synopsis: The battle between good and evil continues as the brave barbarian adventurer Conan, his trusty steed Thunder, lovable phoenix Needle and his many warrior friends (including Zula, Jezmine, Greywolf and Snagg) take on the sinister Snake Cult, led by the dark sorcerer Wrath-Amon! But are Conan’s might and his sword, forged from the mysterious and very powerful Star Metal, enough to fight off the Set worshipping horde? Prepare to find out!

Review: The Conan remake film may suck, but that doesn't mean all is lost for fans of the legendary barbarian.  This DVD release features the first part of the second season of the great Conan: The Adventurer cartoon!  Shout! Factory is looking to be releasing the entire series for us fans of the show.  In the second season we have Conan facing more villains than ever. He's put to the endurance test as they come at him.  Will he survive?  This one is a ton of retro fun.

Synopsis: Dylan (Justin Timberlake) is done with relationships. Jamie (Mila Kunis) decides to stop buying into the Hollywood clichés of true love. When the two become friends they decide to try something new and take advantage of their mutual attraction – but without any emotional attachment. Physical pleasure without the entanglements. Sounds easy enough for two logical adults, right? Not so much. They soon realize romantic comedy stereotypes might exist for a reason.

Review: The premise of this film isn't terribly original..basically two absurdly attractive friends are frustrated with their lack of a sex life and decide to become friends with benefits, minus any romantic attachments.  They both go into it as skeptics and quickly realize that there is more to it than that for them.  What makes this film worth watching, and it is a good watch, is the charisma of both Timberlake and Kunis.  Its great to see Mila transitioning into major feature film work, she is such a joy to watch.  This one is a great date night film to curl up and watch with your honey that you both can enjoy.

Review: We didn't see Prep and Landing when it aired on television for the first time, but boy are we glad that its on home video now!   Disney has done it again, this time they're giving us original holiday specials!  I haven't seen a good original holiday special since the 1980s Garfield Xmas special!   Our kids absolutely LOVED it, in fact my two year old now goes to sleep watching it EVERY night.   We highly recommend this one..its funny, modern and fun.  There is a new chapter coming out this year, it will air on ABC on Monday, December 5, so check that out too!  The special features include: Prep and Landing: Operation Secret Santa Short, Prep and Landing: Tiny's Big Adventure Short and Kringle Academy training videos (4).

Synopsis: Andy Griffith, Shelley Winters and Jackie Vernon lend their voices to this captivating cartoon about the Snowman's winter return to the children of a small town for a winter season of fun and games. Review: Its difficult enough to live up to an orginal and sequels tend to get a hard time...mostly because they stink!   There was a sucky Frosty sequel..the Return of Frosty...but THIS feature, Frosty's Winter Wonderland, is actually fantastic and keeps the tone of the original.  It picks up where the last one left off and just feels like a true extention of the classic cartoon.  This one is a must have for all families this holiday season!
