Synopsis: Matt Braunger's (Up All Night) second Comedy Central special Shovel Fighter is available on DVD and CD extended and uncensored just two days after the world television premiere. Review: Matt Braunger is a well-versed comedian.  You may have seen him in the past on MadTV and NBC's "Up All Night".  His role on Up All Night is the ackward and stiff neighbor dad.  I enjoy him in that role, so I decided to give his stand-up special a chance.  His pacing is rather quick...he barely pauses for a laugh before moving right onto the next joke.  His topics covered range, but are mostly completely inappropriate, which is fantastic.  Overall, its rather funny and definately worth the watch.

Synopsis: The Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly) are on a mission. Left on a doorstep of an Orphanage run by nuns, the young Trio grows up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way into trouble. Now years later, with the Orphanage forced to close its doors, the Three Stooges embark on a wacky mission to save the Orphanage. Hilarious Mischief and Mayhem ensues.

Review: The Three Stooges have been one of my favorite things since I was a kid.  I used to watch them on late night television, and then when I was older they would show the old shorts before movies at the drive-in theater.  In fact, I remember a channel when I visited my grandmother in Arizona that showed them 24 hours a day back in the 1990s.  Now, the Farrelly Brothers, kings of comedy in their own right, are re-imagining these classic characters for a new generation.  This is something that is long overdue and its done so well here.  The film serves as both an homage and a relaunch of this great troup.  The performances are fantastic, especially that of Will Sasso as Curly.  We highly recommend it for the entire family.

Review: Oh, how we love Storage Wars!  (Storage Wars Texas, not so much).  This volume covers almost the rest of season two of the show (see the episodes included below).  We get more drama between Jarrod and Brandi, Dave Hester, Barry and Darryl.  Honestly, even though the odds that this show isn't put on are VERY low, that doesn't even matter to me.  The fun watching these guys loathe each other is worth it.  I don't expect anything real on TV..I reserve that for real life, lol.  This show is a TON of fun and most definately has us glued still.

Review: The Note film series are touching films that originally aired for the Hallmark Channel.  I remember watching the first of these, which I thought was fantastic.  This release is the third film, which takes the saga in a new direction, with a baby being left on Peyton and King's doorstep along with...you guessed it..a note.  This heartwarming tale unfolds as they try to find the baby a good home.  This one is fantastic and great for the entire family.

Synopsis: A gang of eunuchs is attempting to overthrow the Ming Dynasty, and sibling assassins Sister Ko (Michelle Yeoh) and Brother Sing (Tony Leung) must infiltrate the group to stop them in this Hong Kong action thriller from director Michael Mak (Dragon Inn).

Review: We love asian cinema here at the Legion.  Butterfly Swords is a fantastic new example of this cinema, with period action and fantastic political drama.  Michelle Yeoh is dynamic as ever and Tony Leung turns in a fantastic and daring performance.  There is non-stop action and some very cool characters in this one..it does not disappoint.

Synopsis: When rich girl Cocolonia (Megan Heyn) can’t shake her stuff at home because of her uptight mom (Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation), she hits the streets to join a dance crew who respond to every challenge with a dance .

Review: This new crazy comedy, Freak Dance, is definately an aquired taste.  Its from the mind of Matt Besser of the Upright Citizens Brigade.  This one one of those off-kilter spoof-comedies that won't appeal to everyone, but if you have the right mindset going in, its quite hilarious.  The comedy is bizarre and the dancing action is insane, but if you "get" the Upright Citizens, then you should love this one.

Synopsis: Filmed live in Los Angeles, Bellamy gives a terrific performance, engaging the audience on such topics as sex chat rooms, killer whales and their trainers, Jay-Z and Beyonce, making it rain in strip clubs and more.

Review: Bill Bellamy has put in his time as a stand-up comedian.  He was, in fact, the very first comedian to kick off the Def Comedy Jam back in the day.  In his latest one hour special, Crazy-Sexy-Dirty, he goes off on various celebs like Lil' Wayne, Internet Sex Chat rooms, airport security and more.  Bellamy has a wide appeal and a fantastic flow.  He doesn't miss a beat and though he targets some of his comedy, I found it all to have a universal appeal and it was absolutely hilarious.  He's a well-polished machine and this special is a must-have.

Synopsis: Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank feels he has nothing left to live for. However, instead of taking his own life, he embarks on a killing spree with cohort Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement, and together they embark on a nation-wide assault on our country s dumbest, most irritating celebrities.

Review: God Bless America is a new violence satire from the mind of Bobcat Goldwaith.  I should say, the twisted mind of Bobcat.  You may remember him as Zed from the Police Academy films, but times have changed and this guy has a vision to share.  The film is a fantastic satire and a big FU to the establishment..celebrity, guns, religion...all types of things.  If you enjoy extreme liberal satire, you will LOVE this film.  If not, you may find it too preachy.  Us?  We loved it.  This one is laced with violence and some pretty extreme sequences at times..definately controvertial, but this loveletter to liberal disgust will live on as an instant cult classic.

Synopsis: Though no one can see him, Hollow Face lurks in the corners, desperately desiring love but only knowing how to spread fear and hate. He creeps into the life of John Farrow (Clive Owen) after Farrow s beloved 13-year-old daughter Mia (Ella Purnell) is assaulted in their home. The line between the real and the imaginary blurs as fissures start to open within the family unit. It seems that no security measure can keep Hollow Face out. Review: These days it seems that he classic terror of a horror movie is lost.  Its always gore and guts or stupid Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch style films.  The Intruders focuses on two children that are basically haunted by this guy called Hollow Face.  Not only is the tone and acting fantastic in this film, but the sheer terror that you feel along with the cast is unparalelled.  I haven't seen such a good quality and true horror film in years.  We highly recommend this one.

Review: The Big Bang Theory is a hit show on CBS from the same mind that brought us Two and a Half Men, Chuck Lorre.  The first two seasons are finally being released on blu-ray...and its about time!  This show is a complete geekfest, but in the best possible way.  A hot blonde hangs out with a group of comic book and science nerds.  Thats all you really need to know about this show!  Of course the characters are over-exaggurated versions of nerds, but its a lot of fun.  We're pleased that they've gone back and released the first two seasons in high-definition...so many shows have yet to do so.

Review: Whoooa Jem!  Jem was one of the coolest cartoons of the 1980s.  Interlaced with music videos and dyed bright hair..crazy make-up, these characters enthralled a generation.  Shout Factory finishes up their run of Jem with this third and final season on DVD.  Thanks to Shout Factory fans can now get the show readily and at a decent price.  This DVD is phenominal..in fact many of these later episodes we had never had the opportunity to see, so that was quite a treat.  This one is a MUST for any Jem fan.

Synopsis: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Jon Hamm star alongside Jennifer Westfeldt and Adam Scott in is a daring and hilarious ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends whose lives change once they have kids. Review: Friends With Kids is one of those slice of life, we're getting older and our generation wants to still have wine and live in the city movies, whilst everyone around us breeds and gets married.  This film showcases two holdouts that soon decide to have a kid together.  The stellar cast makes this one more desirable than the plot.  The film isn't so much a comedy, but a dramedy.  It was very sweet and charming and will be a nice watch for couples getting comfy on the sofa!

Review: One thing I learned from watching this documentary..Jiro loves sushi.  My god, does he.  Jiro has spent his entire life perfecting and mastering his craft and like a kung fu wizard, he is a master of sushi.  His restaurant is quaint and humble, but make no mistake about it, there you will have the experience of a lifetime.  It was interesting to hear about Jiro's life and journey and how sushi was so important to him that his family even came second!  This is an interesting slice of life special that definately entertains.

Synopsis: Midnight Son is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Review: We've seen take after take on various movie monsters...werewolves, zombies and vampires...but this new indie film take is a brave new world.  This is a fantastic feature with great tone and lovely acting.  This dark, twisted and modern love story is one that is not to be missed!  We highly recommend.

Review:  We love stand-up comedy here at the Legion and we're always looking for good specials to throw into our regular viewing.  Todd Barry is one of those comedians that has a level of low tone and modesty about his work that is often times disarming and when he comes to a punchline its not only hilarious, but unique.  His comedy is dead-on and his multiple appearances in TV and in film have helped him perfect his confidence and stage presence to a level that appears natural and effortless.  We definately recommend.

Review: This DVD represents the second and final episodes of the DIC Entertainment relaunch of GI Joe from 1991.  The show is easily distinguishable by seasoned and even casual fans by the new theme song and the difference in characters and animation quality.  The original "Real American Hero" series was produced by Sunbow back in the 1980s and the animation still holds up quite well.  DIC rushed their animation significantly and it truly shows.  Now, don't get me wrong...I LOVE the DIC series too, because it expanded on a show that I had thought was long dead as a child.  I didn't mind these changes growing up and I honestly look past them just fine now.  A few of the major differences in the shows characters include Storm Shadow turned good as a GI Joe, the goofy brightly neon-colored and comical Cobra characters like the Night Creepers.   You can certainly see the early 90s influence!  Its said that Hasbro handed the series over to DIC to save on productions costs, which were mostly coming out of their own pockets at that point.  This DVD represents the full second and final season of the DIC series.  This one is a great buy for anyone looking to relive those childhood moments and a definate must for any serious GI Joe fan!

Review: On the Inside is a rather unique thriller, as it takes you inside a psychiatric hospital and brings home action and thrills, rather than Girl Interrupted-style drama.   This one follows the already disturbed seeming Nick Stahl as he tries to survive an escape attempt that throws everything in motion towards disaster.  This one is well-written and has sufficient thrills to see it through.  We definately recommend.

Review: Kelsey Grammer has had quite the career in television.  From his original cameos in Cheers to his highly acclaimed and still often re-ran spin-off show Frazier...he has been a part of our lives for a long time.  This latest show, Boss, is an intense drama that airs on the STARZ channel.  Grammer stars as the ruthless and brutal mayor of Chicago who has recently learned that he is suffering from a degerative disease.  He is surrounded by a cast of characters that are full of drama and backstabbing and in what is easily one of the best dramas we've seen in years, Chicago's political scene takes a ribbing of epic proportions.  We highly recommend this one if you're into character-driven dramas like the Sopranos or Breaking Bad.

Synopsis:  A renegade CIA agent (Guy Pearce), falsely accused of murder, must overcome a gang of ruthless prisoners held 50 miles above Earth and rescue the President's daughter (Maggie Grace) in order to regain his freedom.

Review: Holy crap this movie has the action!  Wind Blast is a completely homicidal and wicked Chinese Western thriller!  Zhang Ning is an ex-boxer that turns assasin.  After his last hit he needs to hide out and thinks he can blend back in China..he's SO wrong.   In insane barrage of action and bloody combat ensue.  This one is a great film for any fan of foreign action film!

Synopsis: Joe + Belle is a funny and romantic new lesbian feature boasting a great story, a whimsically dark comic sensibility and stellar performances. Writer-director-star Veronica Kedar shines as Joe a laid-back dope dealer full of magnetic charisma. Sivan Levy is Belle a forlorn yet irresistibly sensual crazy girl who attaches herself to Joe and refuses to let go. The two women first meet when Belle breaks into Joe s house, then become an unlikely team when they accidentally shoot a guy twice! and must figure out how to get rid of the body and escape the authorities. They go on the lam together, and surprisingly fall in love amidst car chases, rocket bombs falling and other surprising misadventures.

Review: Oh my god, this film is fantastic.  By the cover you wouldn't know it, but you can best describe this film as like a sort of lesbian Reservoir Dogs!  Two girls meet..one a drug dealing criminal and the other is her victim of a break-in, and they fall madly in love, but are soon entangled in shooting a man and dealing with the craziness that ensues.  This is a fanastic indie great and we highly recommend.

Devin needs straight 'A's to get a scholarship, and Mac needs to finally graduate so he can date a sexy substitute teacher. Review: Every generation has a pinnacle of each genre.  The most revered of these is perhaps the stoner film.  You know the type..the one with tons of pot smoking, gratuitous nudity and cursing.  Mac and Devin is without a doubt the pinnacle stoner film of the day.  I mean we're talking Snoop...Wiz..Mike Epps...and even Andy Milonakis.  This one is full of everything risque material and tons of party fun that is sure to please.

Synopsis: At first glance, Ken Boyd may seem like an average comic enthusiast, living with his mother and working to make ends meet as an underpaid, underappreciated ice cream parlor attendant. But Ken has a dirty little secret: he fantasizes about killing people. After being released from a stay in the loony bin, for severe mental trauma suffered when he was beaten and tortured by a gang of high school thugs, Ken's repressed anger suddenly reaches a boiling point. Review: This film, Some Guy Who Kills People, appeared from the outside to be another stupid horror movie, but what we got was a fantastical ironic horror-comedy.  A tortured young man tries to make his life work, but the absolute abuse and torture he goes through inflicted by his peers is too much..and he snaps.  This satire/horror is a fantastic and bloody freakfest that is sure to become an instant cult classic!  We cannot recommend this one enough.

Synopsis: Martin David, a skilled and focused mercenary, is sent into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. Hired by an anonymous company that wants the tiger's genetic material, Martin arrives in Tasmania posing as a scientist. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the family. However, as his attachment to the family grows, he is led down a path of unforeseen dangers, complicating his deadly mission.

Review: Willem Defoe is one of those actors that really terrifies me.  I mean that, lol, he is just so creepy and intense...and as an actor those can be fantastic qualities.  He begins this film as a souless mercenary that is brought in by a shady company and then undergoes one of the most dramatic and soulful transformations that I have ever seen. You begin to see some humanity in him when he meets and falls for a widow and her kids in the town in Tasmania.  This is an absolutely intense and dramatic film, but we recommend it highly!

Now, joined by seven rebellious dwarves, Snow White launches an epic battle of good vs. evil in this funny, magical movie that the whole family will love.

Review: There has been an influx of fantasy films based on fairy tales in the past few years, but most of those have been geared towards the tween twilighty crowd (is that a word, twilightly?), but Mirror Mirror saves the day with a fantastic mixture of fantasy, comedy and adventure!  Julia Roberts surprises in a rare appearance as a baddie, but the absolute show stealer is the dwarves!  This one is great for the entire family without being campy or cheesy..its an absolute win!

Review: Iron Man is hotter than ever, thanks to the Avengers film and the Iron Man movies.  This series, Armored Adventures, focuses on a Stark that is very akin to the movie versions, with great CGI-based animation and well developed storytelling.  We highly recommend this one for older kids and adult fans alike.
