Amy Schumer: Mostly Sex Stuff DVD Review

Synopsis: A ratings hit! Amy Schumer debuts her one-hour special in front of a live audience at the Historic Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco. Nothing is off limits as Schumer airs every hilarious, messed up detail of her dating and sex life, from encounters with unexpected body parts to hate-filled personal grooming appointments. In her matter-of-fact raunchy style, at odds with her self-described "Cabbage Patch Kid" appearance, Schumer tells stories of a boyfriend who makes dirty requests over dinner, the way she outsmarts her birth control, and a shocking ending to a seemingly innocent cab ride.

Review: We LOVE stand-up comedy here at the Legion.  One of the best places to find great new comedians is the Comedy Central Roasts.  The best new talent to come out of these is Amy Schumer.  Amy is a dirty, dirty girl.  She takes on sex in her great solo stand-up special that aired last summer on Comedy Central.  It FINALLY gets a DVD release!  Amy is absolutely flawless and hilarious.  Her comedy is edgy and crisp, as if she's been doing this for decades.  Check out this hot new comedian in her debut DVD.  We guarantee you'll love this one.

Frankenweenie (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) Review

Synopsis: From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes the hilarious and offbeat Frankenweenie, a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life - with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a new 'leash on life' can be monstrous. Complete with electrifying bonus features, Frankenweenie is alive with enchanting fun for the whole family in eye-popping Blu-ray 3D.

Review: We're Tim Burton fans here at the Legion, thats no secret.   Anything Burton touches turns to gold.   When we heard he was going back to his old short film and creating a full Frankenweenie film for Disney, we were thrilled..and with good reason.  This movie is full of dynamic animation, characters and storytelling, as you'd expect from a Burton.  We follow the touching tale of Victor, as he is heartbroken by the death of his best friend, Sparky, he re-animates his body, creating a monster of sorts.

This set provides you with a 3D blu-ray, 2D blu-ray, DVD and digital copy.  Its the ultimate collectors set, complete with a nice lenticular slipcase.  The film looks amazing in 3D, and honestly thats the best way to view it.

This film is funny, dramatic, suspenseful and full of heartwarming storytelling.  We cannot recommend it enough.

Branded Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Ed Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor and Max Von Sydow star in this mind-bending, edge-of-your seat sci-fi thriller set in a surreal, not-so-distant future. In a dystopian society where mega-corporations rule, a terrifying conspiracy has been unleashed one that controls the minds of the citizens. One man (Stoppard) is determined to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy. His quest to find it will plunge him into a tangled web of power and intrigue, leading to a shocking revelation and an epic battle with the hidden forces and creatures that threaten the fate of mankind.

Review: Branded is one of those films that wasn't advertised well.  On first look its some kind of sci-fi, fantasy, alien invasion epic.  Not true.  This is an art house film about the evils of advertising that uses dystopian imagery to get it's point across.  I found this film to be rather snarky, but in good taste and with some great points made.  This one will make you think and is certainly a unique watch.

Harland Williams: A Force of Nature DVD Review

Synopsis: HARLAND WILLIAMS has done it again! On the fringe of genius, on the outer edge of bizarre, on the far horizon of fall-down funny, Harland takes comedy to whole new frontier! On a mountaintop deep in the Mojave Desert, away from the plush safety of the typical comedy club filled with his adoring fans, Harland courageously takes on Mother Nature in a hilarious stand-up set on the world’s biggest stage. Get ready for a bold new experiment in comedy that pays off in the kind of laughs only Harland Williams can provide!

Review: The first time I saw Harland Williams was in Dumb and Dumber as the urine drinking cop.  Then, we saw him as a serial killer in There's Something About Mary.  Harland has this naturally bizarre style that reminds me of Bobcat Goldthwait.  He's odd, quirky, but hilarious and terribly inappropriate with his stand-up. This experimental special takes him away from the audience and literally outdoors in the desert.  Its odd, but it sure gets your attention and the set his hilarious.  This one is a great watch.

Southland: The Complete Second, Third and Fourth Seasons DVD Review

Synopsis: The Southland is Los Angeles: sandy beaches Bel-Air mansions gangbangers and drug deals gone wrong. It's where the rookies and veterans of a stand-up LAPD unit see all the violence and fear a big city can breed and struggle to make a difference. This 6-Disc Set contains all 26 explosive Season Two Three and Four Episodes of the gripping lightning-paced series about the men and women who live their lives on a jagged edge taking on criminals victims and a sprawling city tainted by vice and seething with danger. Sometimes the cops triumph. Sometimes they fail. And sometimes the poison they live with on the job comes home with them. Police action hits hard in Southland.

Review: We've enjoyed police dramas here at the Legion for decades.  We've seen 'em all...and I mean 'em ALL.  None have been quite as edgy and quite as raw as Southland.  This show, originally airing on NBC, was later cancelled and aquired by TNT, where it has aired ever since.  In fact, the fifth season is soon to air on TNT network.  This is the show that won't die, and for good reason.  The characters on this show are dynamic, full of depth and flaw, and this is without a doubt the best police / crime drama on TV.  This DVD set collects the full second third and fourth seasons.  This is the perfect way to get caught up on this one before the new season starts!  We cannot recommend this show enough.

Bring home the humor and heartfelt emotion of the epic adventure that captured the Academy Award for "Best Animated Feature Film" (2003) -- now more awesome than ever on Disney Blu-ray 3D! It's Magic In A New Dimension!

Review: I'm a lifelong fan of animation.  I have grown with the cartoons as we were brought into a world of more serious storylines, ala Batman: the Animated Series in the 1990s, but nothing could prepare me for what Pixar was going to bring to Disney.   Their films are full of depth, well produced and authentic characters, as well as the exploration of very serious themes like life, death, abandonment, our place in the world, etc.  They really give their audiences, children and adults alike, respect through their real storytelling.  Finding Nemo was a film that I didn't intially think I would be interested in when it came out, until I saw the magic of Pixar bring the ocean to life.  I find it easy to forget that I'm watching an animated feature!  If any Pixar was just dying to have a 3D transfer it was this one!  The film is charming as ever and is really brought to life with the addition of 3D!  The movie is gorgeous in high-definition, which you can get in the standard 2D blu-ray that is included in the set.  This set gives fans a ton of special features, including interviews, artwork and in-depth looks at the making of the film.  This is the ultimate collector's pack for Nemo and we cannot recommend it enough.  Add this one to your library today!

Jackie Chan: Crime Story / The Protector Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: CRIME STORY

Jackie Chan stars in one of his grittiest roles ever as a police detective on the edge, who must race against time to solve a deadly kidnapping case. Based on the shocking true story of a billionaire abducted in a bold ambush, and filled with explosive martial-arts battles, Crime Story pulses with tension and excitement. Director Kirk Wong (The Big Hit) deftly combines acrobatic fight choreography with edge-of-your-seat action for this thrilling and dramatic tour-de-force for Jackie Chan.

THE PROTECTOR

Written and directed by James Glickenhaus (The Exterminator), The Protector stars Jackie Chan and Danny Aiello (Do the Right Thing) as a pair of NYPD cops sent to Hong Kong to catch a drug lord who has kidnapped the daughter of his former associate. Also starring martial-arts star Moon Lee (Angel Force) and Roy Chiao (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), this thriller features Hollywood-style action sprinkled with Chan’s death-defying stunts.

Review: I've been a fan of Jackie Chan since the early 1990s.  His fantastic mix of comedy and extreme martial arts prowess have always made him a favorite of mine.  This new blu-ray 2-pack features a Chan classic, Crime Story, along with the Protector on high-definition blu-ray for the first time.  These are two fantastic Chinese martial arts flicks that showcase Chan's trademark acting quality along with his fantastic stunt work that has made Chan a superstar worldwide.  We highly recommend this set for any fan of Chan and martial arts film.

Review: Undercover Bridesmaid is a sweet, fun and clean comedy that features Brooke Burns as a bodyguard that gets involved in some crazy antics.  The film is well-acted and has some great, if lesser known, actors.  This is a great date night film, perfect for snuggling with your sweetheart!

In her brand new, live stand up DVD, the unstoppable entertainment icon is taking no prisoners and insulting anybody and everybody. Everything and everyone is fair game as Joan commands the stage with infectious energy and wit.

Review: We love stand-up comedy here at the Legion and one of the most brutal and talented comics out there always has been Joan Rivers.  Rivers pulls NO punches in her often offensive and edgy set!  We were dying and absolutely laughed our butts off.  This one was a great watch, just don't watch it with the kids!

Synopsis: Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Review: I'm going to start by saying I'm not religious and in no way believe in this crap.  Now, that being said, this is a fun film.  Is it a hardcore exorcism flick that will gross you out and shock you?  No.  This one is mainstream, very well made and acted, but vanilla for the genre.  This is a great watch for the average viewer, serious horror-philes won't be interested.  Thats ok though, this one is a good and fun watch for most of us.

The special features include:

Audio Commentary with director Ole Bornedal
- Audio Commentary with writers Juliet Snowden and Stiles White
- “The Real History of the Dibbuk Box” Featurette
- Theatrical Trailer

Sleeper Blu-Ray Review

Sleeper Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Drawing on the great tradition of silent comedy, Sleeper is Woody Allen's first film to tame his verbal wit and showcase his emerging skill with visual and physical comedy. Starring Diane Keaton (directed by Allen for the first time), Sleeper is "a bizarre mixture of New York neuroses, splendidly lunatic sight gags, Alice-in-Wonderland illogic, and too-funny-to-be-painful satire" (Los Angeles Herald-Examiner) When cryogenically preserved Miles Monroe (Allen) is awakened 200 years after a hospital mishap, he discovers the future's not so bright: all women are frigid, all men are impotent, and the world is ruled by an evil dictator.a disembodied nose! Pursued by the secret police and recruited by anti-government rebels with a plan to kidnap the dictator's snout before it can be cloned, Miles falls for the beautiful - but untalented - poet Luna (Keaton). But when Miles is captured and reprogrammed by the government - to believe he's Miss America! - it's up to Luna to save Miles, lead the rebels, and cut off the nose.just to spite its face.

Review: I don't enjoy Woody Allen.  I think he's a horrible actor and not such a great director.  Sleeper, however, is a phenominal work that was ahead of it's time.  This one is done in an avante-garde 70s futuristic style that features Allen doing a silent film Buster Keaton like performance about a crazy future world that he awakens in.  I had never heard of this 1973 film until its release to blu-ray and I must say I'm glad I saw it!

Wake In Fright Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Awe-inspiring, brutal and stunning, WAKE IN FRIGHT is the story of John Grant, a bonded teacher who arrives in the rough outback mining town of Bundanyabba, planning to stay overnight before catching the plane to Sydney. But, as his one night stretches to five, he plunges headlong toward his own destruction. When the alcohol-induced mist lifts, the educated John Grant is no more. Instead there is a self-loathing man in a desolate wasteland, dirty, red-eyed, sitting against a tree and looking at a rifle with one bullet left... Believed lost for many years, WAKE IN FRIGHT has been painstakingly restored by Australia's National Film and Sound Archive and AtLab Deluxe, and is presented in its original uncompromising form.

Review: Wake in Fright is the thing of legend.  This film was underground in the 1980s and would circulate amongst film buffs in dubbed VHS and weird edits that were not quite right.  The film, sometimes known as Outback, is a dark, desolate and isolated view of Australian cinema that harkens back to the era of Mad Max.  This is one of the most important works I've seen in B foreign cinema and I'm so happy that they were able to discover and restore it to this level of quality.  I was blown away by this one.

The special features on this blu-ray include: Audio commentary with director Ted Kotcheff and editor Anthony Buckley, To the ‘Yabba and Back…’ featurette by Not Quite Hollywood Director Mark Hartley, Q&A with Kotcheff at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, ’ABC’s 7:30 Report’ on the rediscovery and restoration of the film, Who Needs Art?: Vintage segment on Wake in Fright, Chips Rafferty obituary, Theatrical trailers and 28-page booklet.

I Am Bruce Lee Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: I Am Bruce Lee is the amazing story of one of the greatest icons ever to enter the public consciousness, the first film to truly tell Bruce Lee’s story in his own words and actions, as well as through the eyes of the international stars from the worlds of film, television, music and sports.

Featuring original interviews with UFC President Dana White, NBA Superstar
Kobe Bryant, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, actor Mickey Rourke, The Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo, legendary martial artists Dan Inosanto, Richard Bustillo, Bob Wall (Enter the Dragon) and Gene LeBell, and unprecedented conversations with Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee and his wife Linda Lee Cadwell, plus the best of Bruce Lee’s ground-breaking martial arts action films and rare archival footage, I Am Bruce Lee is the definitive story of a man whose legacy will endure forever.

Review: I'm a HUGE Bruce Lee fan.  I've been watching his films since I was a little kid.  Subsequently, I've seen a TON of documentaries about Lee and his life.  This one, however, raised the bar 100%.  It was overseen and produced closely with Lee's widow and daughter, Shannon, and features interviews with some of his disciples.  The documentary explores his life and career with wondeful archival footage and really inciteful interviews.  I don't often say this, but this documentary is the END ALL for documentaries about Bruce Lee.  We cannot recommend this one enough.

Assassins Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: In the year 198 BC, Cao Cao (CHOW YUN FAT), Prime Minister of the Han Dynasty, ventured to the east and defeated China s greatest warrior Lu Bu, terrifying every ambitious warlord across the country. Several years later, after taking the Han Emperor under his wing, Cao crowns himself King of Wei. He built a magnificent Bronze Sparrow Island to symbolize his power and rumors spread that he would replace the Emperor.

Meanwhile, young lovers Mu Shun (TAMAKI HIROSHI) and Ling Ju (CRYSTAL LIU YI FEI) are taken from a prison camp to a hidden tomb, where they spend five cruel years together, training as assassins for a secret mission. In the year 220 BC astronomical signs predict dramatic change. As a result, Cao s son Cao Pi (QIU XIN ZHI) and Cao s followers urge Cao to become the new Emperor - but unknown and opposing forces plot against him.

Starring international film legend Chow Yun-Fat, and created by the team behind gripping action dramas such as HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER and KILL BILL, THE ASSASSINS is a gripping, lush historical epic that mixes tragic romance with taut political drama.

Review: I don't know a lot about historical China, but what I do know I've learned from martial arts movies, lol.  I know thats lame, but its true.  Films like this, while not always completely factual, are a great taste of what life may have been like, mixed with entertaining dramatizations.  The tone and color of this film are fantastic and really pop, while it has just enough action and drama to keep it interesting.  Chow Yun Fat does a phenominal job, as expected, in the role of Cao Cao.  This one is a great watch, and while it may not be on par with other greats like House of Flying Daggers, its definately a solid film.

Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, Vol.2 DVD Review

Synopsis: Everyone’s favorite turtles (Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo along with the newest addition to the family, Venus Di Milo) are back! They’re on a mission to rescue Master Splinter from the evil Dragon Lord and his horde while staying clear of other new foes like the vampiress Vam-Mi, the yeti Silver and the big-game hunter Simon Bonesteel who’s out for their shells!

See all the exciting showdowns in the conclusion to the only live-action series based on the iconic Ninja Turtles franchise!

Review: This second volume of the Next Mutation TV show collects the remainder of the episodes from the series to DVD!  This show was a great continuation of the live action films, done in much the same style with live action costumes and animatronic masks.  The weekly adventures included all four of our favorite turtles and a new addition..the first female turtle, Venis Di Milo!  This show was basically TMNT meets Power Rangers.  Despite that, its a lot of fun and is a great and rather obscure piece of the history of the Ninja Turtles.

The only, and I mean only, thing I would change about these DVD releases is the lack of extras.  I would've enjoyed seeing some kind of cast interviews or behind the scenes look at the show.  Other than that, I have no complaints!  This is a must have for any Ninja Turtles fan!

Oscar® Nominees Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis lead a stellar cast in this empowering drama inspired by actual events. Hard-working single mom Jamie Fitzpatrick (Gyllenhaal) is concerned that John Adams Elementary is letting her daughter down. Teaming with a caring teacher (Davis) who wants the best future for her own son, she sets out to improve attitudes and elevate the school’s academic standards. Despite the odds, with courage, hope and persistence, the women just might prevail in this uplifting film that also stars Rosie Perez and Academy Award® Winner Holly Hunter.

Roberta Guaspari in Music of the Heart
Roberta Guaspari (portrayed by Meryl Streep) is a real violinist and teacher. Music of the Heart tells her story in which she takes on the task of teaching violin to group of students in Harlem. Though initially met by some resistance (from both of the students and their skeptical parents), Roberta is slowly able to make progress with the kids and the program becomes a success. However, 10 years later, the program is canceled due to budget cuts and Roberta loses her job. To fight back and keep music education going, Roberta and a group of supporters put on a concert to benefit the program and successfully reinstitute it.

Ms. Geist in Clueless
Ms. Geist (Twink Caplan) is one of Bronson Alcott High's teaching staff in 1995’s Clueless. Ms. Geist is a bit of a bleeding heart, and she tries desperately to get her stuck-up students to care about the rest of the world outside of Beverly Hills. Ms. Geist helps Cher (Alicia Silverstone) see that she can help others, and she ends up devoting her time to collecting goods for disaster relief.

Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver
Another real life teacher, Jaime Escalante (portrayed by Edward James Olmos) became a math teacher at a disadvantaged school in East Los Angeles. While his peers looked down on the kids at their school, Jaime believed that they could do more than the rudimentary math he had been teaching them, and began to prep his students for calculus. Ultimately, his students took the AP Calculus test and they all passed. However, their scores were called into question and they were accused of cheating. Jaime fought for his students to be able to retake the test to prove that their scores were based on hard work, not cheating. In the end, his students all pass a second time, proving that hard work and determination really does pay off.

Dewey Finn in School of Rock
Though not technically a teacher, Dewey Finn (Jack Black) impacts his students in School of Rock. After posing as a substitute teacher at an elite prep school, Dewey learns that his new pupils are talented musicians and decides to train them to be a rock band for an upcoming competition. He teaches them to love rock, and that there is more to life than school and grades.

Mr. Holland in Mr. Holland’s Opus
Mr. Holland originally becomes a music teacher in order to spend more time with his wife, and to compose a piece of music. However, as he spend more and more time in his school with the faculty and students, he begins to have a respect for teaching and really tries to get the students involved in classic music. He used rock and roll to teach them about classical compositions. After 30 years of service to his students, Mr. Holland and his music program are cut from the school’s budgets. However, his former students ban together to give him a goodbye he’ll never forget: playing his orchestral piece (“Mr. Holland’s Opus”).

Ms. Norbury in Mean Girls
Ms. Norbury, played by the hilarious Tina Fey, is the sympathetic math teacher in the 2004 hit Mean Girl. Not only is Ms. Norbury unintentionally hilarious, but she also ushers Cady (Lindsay Lohan) away from the catty Plastics and into the Mathletes, and leads all the female students in a giant confession and apology to one another, and beseeches them to stop the girl on girl hate.

Anne Sullivan in The Miracle Worker
In 1962’s The Miracle Worker, Anne Bancroft plays Anne Sullivan in the true story of Helen Keller.  Helen, frustrated by her inability to communicate due to being blind and deaf, was often prone to uncontrollable outbursts that her parents didn’t know how to manage. They called upon the Perkins School for the Blind, who sent Anne to work with Helen at her home. Through persistence and love, Anne is able to break down Helen’s walls and help her communicate.

John Keating in Dead Poets Society
John Keating (Robin Williams) is the radical new English teacher at the uptight Welton Academy Prep School. Through his unorthodox teaching methods, like standing on desks and tearing pages out of books, Keating is able to help his students discover and explore their true passions in life, like writing and acting, instead of succumbing to the lives their parents have prescribed for them.

Clément Mathieu in The Chorus
In The Chorus (or Les Choristes), Clément Mathieu is a new teacher at a school for boys who are ill behaved.  The headmaster at the school ruthlessly punishes his pupils, but Mathieu attempts to win his students over with kindness and humor. Mathieu also starts a choir for the boys, which helps improve their behavior and makes the school a happier place to be overall.

Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter Series
Professor Dumbledore (portrayed by both Richard Harris and Michael Gambon) is an astounding wizard who basically knows everything about everything. As a mentor to the young hero, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Dumbledore makes him learn many difficult lessons in order to prepare him for the challenges he will face, while still managing to crack a few jokes along the way.

Review:  Barney has been delighting little ones for decades now, and he's still going strong.  This new DVD, Barney" Lets Go To The Moon, is a great space adventure with Barney and Friends.  I gave this to my 3 year old who, to be honest, isn't usually too thrilled with Barney and it quickly became his favorite DVD!  He's been glued to it ever since.  We cannot recommend this one enough.

Monsuno: Destiny DVD Review

Synopsis: They hurled through space eons before man existed. They burned through the planet’s atmosphere and crashed into four corners of the world, bringing chaos, destruction and the extinction of the dinosaurs. And then, as suddenly as they appeared…they vanished. Now, the Monsuno are BACK! And their rise will either spell the ultimate destruction of our planet or launch the courageous adventure of mankind’s newest hero, the unpredictable teenager, Chase Suno!

Review: Monsuno is the latest in a new generation of anime shows that feature teens with some sort of powerful animal sidekick.  Monsuno is a great show with very modern animation and a great flow.  The show follows Chase Suno and his friends as the take on STORM and tons of hybrid monsters and evil scientists.  This show is really fun, especially for 6-10 year olds.  My 10 year old son really enjoyed it.

Heavyweights Blu-Ray Review

Heavyweights Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: When an underdog group of kids discover their beloved summer camp has been sold to a crazy fitness fanatic who’s determined to make their lives miserable, they unite to turn the tables and take back their woodsy hideaway. You’ll fall in love with these Heavyweights – they’re big, loud, and proud, and ready to win their way into your heart. Experience the fun like never before on Disney Blu-ray with all new bonus!

Review: Heavyweights is a film that I never saw as a kid.  Originally released back in 1995 this early Ben Stiller performance is a great precursor to later character bits ranging from Dodgeball to Tropic Thunder.  I never saw this film as a kid, and I think it may hold more weight for you if you did as a cult film, but I did still appreciate Stiller's fantastic performance as a health maniac that takes over a fat camp and basically tortures the kids, trying to get them fit.  This film is fun and full of 90s style sappy kids movie moments, but thats really part of it's charm.  The movie looks phenominal in high-definition, so the new blu-ray is definately the way to go to add this film to your personal library.

The special features on this blu-ray include: More Than 30 Deleted & Extended Scenes, Audio Commentary with Judd Apatow, Steven Brill, Allen Covert, Aaron Schwartz, Shaun Weiss, Tom Hodges & Special Guest Paul Feig, The Making of Heavyweights, Super 8 – Footage Shot by the Cast and Crew, Video Chat: Judd and Kenan, Where are they Now? - See the Kids All Grown Up, Judd's Art Project – His Bizarre Photos from the Set and Theatrical Trailer.

Dick Tracy Blu-Ray Review

Dick Tracy Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: On Blu-ray for the very first time - and with new digital restoration - the visually bold and striking Dick Tracy packs a wallop with picture and sound as sharp as Tracy's jaw. Imaginative performances color this extraordinary action flick directed by and starring Oscar-winner Warren Beatty (best director, Reds, 1981), Grammy-winning singer Madonna, Oscar-nominee Al Pacino (best supporting actor, Dick Tracy, 1990) and Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman (best actor, Rain Man,1988). When gang lord Big Boy Caprice unites the town's racketeers and gangsters, police detective Dick Tracy devotes his career to foiling the entire bunch of bad guys. Complete with richly evocative music - including Stephen Sondheim's Academy Award-winning "Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)" (best original song, 1990), Dick Tracy is a stunner in hi-def Blu-ray.

Review: I remember when Dick Tracy hit theaters..I saw it...wanted the toys, collected the trading cards..I loved it.  This was a bright and kitchy cops and robbers flick that rivaled 1989's Batman for tone and unique flavor of the time.  Warren Beatty plays a fantastic Tracy and the rogues gallery of villains are phenominal from Prune Face to Mumbles and Big Boy himself.  The film featured bright and jarring primary colors, which has always stuck with me and I found myself wondering how that was going to translate to blu-ray.  They would have to do a real work-up on the film to make sure that popped...and they did.  The colors are vibrant and restored, as is the picture for a fantastic high-definition experience.  This one is a must-add to your film library!
