Ugly Americans: Volume One DVD Review



Synopsis: Take the Big Apple, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly and you've got Comedy Central’s new hit animated series, UGLY AMERICANS. This animated horror-comedy series follows one Mark Lilly, social worker at the Department of Integration, as he helps new citizens both human and "other" adapt to hectic life in the Big Apple.

Review: The new show Ugly Americans is collected here in a volume of 7 episodes, which constitutes all of the episodes that have aired so far in the series.  The show is slated to pick up again tomorrow, October 6th on Comedy Central!

What do you say about this show?  In a market where we have a lot of adult animation, like South Park, Family Guy and of course the legendary Simpsons, how does a new animated show find it's place in the world?  Well, you can start by being vulgar, crass and completely inappropriate!  Ugly Americans manages this in spades, while still somehow convincing you that you're not watching complete garbage.  Its hilarious and most definately worth getting into!

The special features include commentary from Devin Clark and David M. Stern on every single episode and 5 web episodes that help to fill in some story on characters from the series.

Review: South Park is still one of the best animated shows on the air, next to the Simpsons.   Obviously, if you've ever seen South Park you know its far more outrageous and inappropriate than the Simpsons could ever manage on network television.  This is because they are on Comedy Central!  The show has been on for 13 years and is going strong!

This new DVD box set has a TON of South Park fan collectibles, like a pin, bracelet, keychain, 'The Poop That Took a Pee' book and more!   The episodes are hilarious and contain a focus on the character 'Butters', who just his voice alone makes me laugh.  This is a fantastic gift for any South Park fan and something nice to treat yourself to, as well.  It makes DVD buying just a bit more fun!

Review: I was only recently introduced to Jeff Dunham's comedy by my wife earlier this year.  I know that he has been popular for awhile, but I'm late in the game on this one.   If you're not familiar with Jeff's work, he is basically a very talented ventriloquist that has a variety of character puppets that spout offensive material, from Achmed the terrorist to bubba.  His live comedy act has become something of a cult phenomenon over the past few years.  Now, this Xmas special is out on blu-ray to enjoy.

Jeff Dunham now has his own show on Comedy Central each week.  Its a pretty good show.  I didn't think he could hold his own in that capacity, but he really surprised me, at least so far.  This special pre-dates that show with a great selection of various skits and bits.  The blu-ray includes a lot of behind the scenes material and other things not seen on the television special when it originally aired.  Its like watching it all over again for the first time!  You defiantely need to score this one on blu-ray.  High-definition is the only way to go.  Firstly, why bother buying a DVD?  Its already an outdated medium.  Invest in blu-ray and you can have this great comedy special to pop in every year for the holidays!
