In After.Life, Anna’s (Christina Ricci) quest for love and happiness takes a macabre turn when, after a car accident, she wakes up to find the local funeral director Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) preparing her body. He calmly tells her she’s dead. Her funeral is in three days time. As Anna is forced to face her deepest fears and accept her death, her boyfriend Paul (Justin Long) begins to suspect Eliot may not be who he appears to be. Does Eliot truly have the gift to talk to the dead and help them transition to the afterlife? Or is he concealing a more sinister secret? With its constant edge of menace, After.Lifeis a stylish psychological thriller that provocatively blurs the razor thin line between life and death.
Review: Christina Ricci is famous for picking odd roles. This film is very suited to her dark sensibilities. Its full of questions and twists and torture and a great and dark look into the twisted mind of a mortuary director. Is he vile and wicked or just misunderstood? Is Ricci dead or is she alive? These are the questions you may struggle with, even once the film is done. Its definately one of those that gets you talking.
The film does include a LOT of nude scenes with Ricci, which most that watch it concur is the film's finest attribute. Ok, scratch that, most boys that watch it concur, lol. Seriously, its a fun movie..well, not fun, but dark and twisty and disturbing. That type of fun. It looks fantastic in high-definition, so go for the blu-ray!
