Review: Iron Man: Armored Adventures is the latest in a new era of Marvel cartoons. What is surprising about the show is that it strays from the reality created by the recent hit film starring Robert Downey, Jr. This show really takes the viewer on an all-new adventure with a young Tony Stark, searching after five mystical Makluan rings. This really brings us closer to past comic book continuity, which isn’t usually the direction shows take when there is a hit film to tie-into. I’m very impressed by the creators for straying and making the show its own entity.
This DVD, volume one, includes the first six episodes of the show. The first season consisted of a total of 26 episodes in all. Now, you may think it’ll take forever to see another volume of this show, so why bother, right? Wrong! Amazon.com has a listing for Volume 2 coming out in early January 2010 already, so its a safe time to start picking these up. Hopefully Genius will release the entire first season.
The show is done in computer graphics, and this is a really touchy place to go. Its difficult to pull off a good cg animated show, but I must say they did a nice job. It was a little bothersome at first, but once I got into it I found a show with great character and story development and I was hooked. Its no Pixar, but hey what is, right? I definately recommend this DVD for any comic book, sci-fi or animation fan. If you’re a big Iron Man fan, this is a great new direction for your franchise to go, and its a great ride!
