Synopsis: Supple super hero Plastic Man bends criminals to justice in these 35 exciting animated adventures from the vintage TV series. Jetsetting around the world in the Plastijet with girlfriend Penny and sidekick Hula Hula, the cool, confident Plas wraps up evil villains like Solex, Weed, Half-Ape, The Clam, Computerhead, and Disco Mummy. With the power to conform to any shape or size, Plas can grow, shrink, or flex his way out of any situation–except Penny’s jealous grip. Never yielding under pressure, the only cracks in his super hero style are the quips he throws at his nemeses while turning the tables on them. When danger calls, this is the only four-disc collector’s set–including elastically exciting extras–with enough twists to showcase Plastic Man!

Special Features: retrospective featurette and Plastic Man animated series unaired pilot episode.

Review: This is called Plastic Man: the Complete Collection DVD and the show its take from was the Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show that ran from 1979 to 1981.   To say that this is the complete collection of this show is both correct and incorrect, depending on how much of a completist you are.  Technically there were 35 episodes of the main show, 13 episodes of Baby Plas and 13 episodes of the Plastic Family included in the Comedy/Adventure show.  This DVD set only collects the actual Plastic Man show segments..the 35 episodes.

The show is a lot of fun, but Plastic Man fans will notice that the only villains from the Plas rogue’s gallery that make it on the show are Carrot-Man, Doctor Honctoff and Doctor Dome.  The show as co-produced by both Ruby-Spears Productions and Hanna-Barbera Productions, two of the all-time great animation companies.  We’re actually going to review the Ruby-Spears Superman show later this week, so watch for that.  Plastic Man aired after Super Friends back in the day and ties into those memories for a lot of us.
Plastic Man was voiced by Michael Bell, who is famous for work on shows like GI Joe, Transformers, the Smurfs and even Super Friends as Zan the Wonder Twin!  He masterfully portrays the sarcastic hero in this classic show.  Its so great to get this on DVD, I honestly didn’t think that would ever happen.  Its a 30 year old gem and I’m so glad to be able to share this with my own children.  And as a DC Comics collector…..well you can imagine how pleased I am to add this to my DVD library.  I highly recommend for comic book fans and kids.  This is good, clean fun!
