The Last of the Mohicans: Director's Definitive Cut Blu-Ray Review
The Last of the Mohicans: Director's Definitive Cut Blu-Ray Review
Synopsis: An epic adventure and passionate romance unfold against the panorama of a frontier wilderness ravaged by war. Academy Award(R) winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor in 1989 for My Left Foot) stars as Hawkeye, rugged frontiersman and adopted son of the Mohicans, and Madeleine Stowe is Cora Munro, aristocratic daughter of a proud British Colonel. Their love, tested by fate, blazes amidst a brutal conflict between the British, the French and Native American allies that engulfs the majestic mountains and cathedral-like forests of Colonial America.
Review: What is most striking about the Last of the Mohicans is how well director Michael Mann captures the battle sequences of the colonial era. There is no romanticism here, just brutal and violent combat. I was wondering how these scenes might come across on blu-ray, because you can really get a lot of grain in outdoor sequences, but it looks fantastic. The picture is clear, the colors really pop and the sweat on the brow of every character is noticable. I was very pleased. If you haven't seen this film, now is your best opportunity. Its a ground-breaking love and loss epic and what made Daniel-Day Lewis a household name.
