Review: Jack Goes Boating is the directoral debut of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He also stars as Jack, an glib, ackward and drab character in New York. When he meets Connie she begins to open up the possibilities of life to him and they eventually begin a love affair. Of course, in the nature of all good romantic films, there is strife that they must overcome. The story here isn't that original or interesting, but the development of the characters is. Hoffman turns in a typically interesting performance and pulls off a nice balance with his character. The film ends up being rather charming and whitty, thanks to some great characters and fun dialogue. Definately a must for those that enjoy the ackward.
