Synopsis: Viewers will experience the deep intensity and nuances of the amazing performances in Clint Eastwood’s searing ensemble drama Mystic River, starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney and Emmy Rossum when it arrives on Blu-ray February 2 from Warner Home Video. Mystic River took two Academy Awards (2003), for Sean Penn (Best Actor) and Tim Robbins (Best Supporting Actor).
With six times higher resolution than standard definition, Blu-ray’s extraordinarily vibrant contrast and color and beautifully crisp sound is bound to enhance Mystic River’s visceral emotions and dark brooding backgrounds. Eastwood magnificently directed this contemporary tragedy filled with violence, tension and long-buried emotions which are never far from the surface. In Blu-ray format, all the tragic events of this amazing drama become amplified as the images jump off the screen.
Review: Its been my experience that Clint Eastwood movies are depressing. In this I don't think that he aims for depressing, but he aims for an extreme sense of realism, which does tend to be a bummer. I mean, we get real life everyday, I think most look to film for their escape from that harsh reality. That being said, I enjoy Clint Eastwood movies. I personally enjoy the realism and the emotion that he pours into most of his work.
Mystic River really flew under the radar back when it was released in 2003. The film deals with the loss of innocense..the loss of life and themes of fate and guilt. Its an amazing emotional epic of three friends that go on a journey that will change everything. Its a very adult film that deserves a lot more attention that it ever got. Hopefully this new blu-ray release will add to the buzz. The 1080p high-definition transfer comes across fantastically. The color palet is a little dull in the film by design, so this isn't exactly an eye-popper, but its a clean transfer and it all looks crisp.
If you're into independant or realistic film pick this one up. Warning to parents, the film is very violent and dark in nature and deals with sexual molestation. We do highly recommend checking it out for any adult.
