Holy Mountain Blu-Ray Review
Synopsis: The scandal of the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Alejandro Jodorowsky's flood of sacrilegious imagery and existential symbolism is a spiritual quest for enlightenment pitting illusion against truth. The Alchemist (Jodorowsky) assembles together a group of people from all walks of life to represent the planets in the solar system. The occult adept's intention is to put his recruits through strange mystical rites and divest them of their wordly baggage before embarking on a trip to Lotus Island. There they ascend the Holy Mountain to displace the immortal gods who secretly rule the universe.
Review: Holy Mountain is a classic 1970s film from cult filmmaking great Alejandro Jodorowsky. This psychedelic epic was financed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. That alone makes it worth note. Add to that the fact that this is one of the most bizarre avant-garde films that has ever been produced and you have an interesting blu-ray release.
In the era of A Clockwork Orange, there was a lot of experimentation with filmmaking in the early 1970s, largely due to the heavy drug use and cultural loss of innosence after the 60s hippie culture. This is no hippie film..its dark and twisted and full of social commentary. The movie looks fantastic on blu-ray. The transfer into high-definition was vey smooth. The colors are nice and there is little to no grain.
The special features include: Holy Mountain original theatrical trailer, Holy Mountain deleted scenes with commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky, The Tarot with commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky, Holy Mountain restoration process, Feature commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky and English, French, Spanish, Brazilian, and Portuguese Subtitles
