Review: This week gives us the release of the musical extravaganza NINE.   This film has suffered from a little bit of brand confusion, thanks partly to the Tim Burton produced animated feature titled 9, released last year.    This film, starring the great Daniel Day-Lewis, is the best thing to happen to musicals on the big screen since Chicago!   In the tradition of Moulin Rouge and Chicago, Nine is both gritty and magical.

The performances are fantastic.  The songs are wonderful and the acting is superb.  A few stand outs are, of course, Daniel Day-Lewis as Italian film director Guido, Penelope Cruz as his mistress Carla and a not so surprisingly sexy debut from Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas.   The only one that stands out as not so great is Kate Hudson, who is normally a great actress.  Kate..stay away from the musicals please, stick to your niche romatic comedy films. 

The blu-ray transfer looks amazing.  The high-definition really adds to the landscape of 1960s Italy.  The special features on the blu-ray include:
