Just Shoot Me - Season 1 & 2 DVD Review

Synopsis: Your Favorite Must-See TV Is Now A Must-Have DVD!
Just Shoot Me! seasons one and two delivers all 31 hilarious episodes from this long-reigning fixture (1997-2003) of NBC's classic comedy lineup. Nominated for six Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes (including Best Comedy), this acclaimed ensemble comedy spanned the hilarious gamut from catwalk to casting couch. Set in the bustling editorial offices of fashion magazine Blush, Just Shoot Me! chronicles the daily grind of the magazine's quirky staff, serving up all the laughter that's fit to print!

Review: There are a few great shows from the 1990s that still hold up as funny.  One of those shows was Just Shoot Me!  The show had a fantastic cast and some great comedy that still feels relevant today.  Thankfully, Mill Creek has gotten ahold of this great sit-com and released the first two seasons in a combo pack, which saves me shelf space and money!  Score.

These were the first 74 episodes that introduced one of the funniest ensemble casts in TV History and enchanted viewers with a hysterically look at the lifestyles of the witch and famous!

Join Dick York as Samantha's mortal husband Darrin, Agnes Moorehead as his witch of a mother-in-law Endora, Alice Pearce as nosey neighbor Gladys Kravitz, George Tobias as her oblivious husband Abner, Marion Lorne as dotty Aunt Clara and Paul Lynde as Samantha's Uncle Arthur along with other 60 s pop icons Adam West, Raquel Welch, Peggy Lipton and Arte Johnson as they brew up hours of sidesplitting laughter and fun!

Review: When I grew up in the 1980s they used to re-run a lot of the old black and white shows.  I would watch the greats like I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith.  One of my all-time favorites, however, was the supernatural sit-com Betwitched!  This show comes from a time when television was safe and families could enjoy anything that came on the air.  Its hard to find a show these days that is appropriate for little ones and still enjoyable to watch.  This DVD release from Mill Creek gives us the first two seasons of the show at a great price.  This one should definately grace your collection!!

Dilbert - The Complete Series DVD Review

Synopsis:  The Most Popular Comic Strip Of The 90's Is Now On DVD!

With his signature turned-up tie, round glasses and buzz cut, Dilbert is already a pop culture phenomenon, providing an irreverent reference point for workers everywhere. Now you can follow Dilbert and his co-workers as they try to make sense of corporate culture through witty banter and silly slapstick.

Developed and produced by Emmy Award-winning writer/producer Larry Charles (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Dilbert follows the every man as he copes with daily life at The Company. Daniel Stern (The Wonder Years) stars as the voice of Dilbert, while Chris Elliott (How I Met Your Mother) voices his roommate Dogbert, who views the entire world as existing for his personal entertainment. Joining Dilbert in the office are his fellow engineers: the no-nonsense, caffeinated Alice (Kathy Griffin) and selfish, slothful Wally (Gordon Hunt).

Review: One of the most visible newspaper comic strips was Dilbert.  The dry office humor was a fantastic pre-cursor to movies like Office Space and shows like the Office.  Its rare for a newspaper comic strip to translate well to animation, but Dilbert stands on a level with greats like Garfield, Dennis the Menace and Peanuts.  The show was very underrated when it came out on TV and has since gained some following online and on DVD.  This is a great and affordable way to own the complete series!

Married With Children - Season 1 & 2 DVD Review

Synopsis: Al and Peggy Bundy Have an Equal Partnership in Marriage: Everyone Suffers!
The less-than-lovable Bundys are a radical departure from the sweet TV families popular since the days of Father Knows Best. With offbeat humor and unflinching honesty, this series paints a more realistic picture of middle-class existence, warts and all. Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) is a shoe salesman who is fond of frequently reliving his doubtful 15 seconds of fame on the football field. Al is terrified of the all-too-frequent amorous advances of his ditsy wife Peggy (Katey Sagal), who spends most of Al's wages at the salon and the mall. They have two teenage kids: stunning but superficial party animal Kelly (Christina Applegate) and egocentric Bud (David Faustino). Married for 16 semi-blissful years, Peggy and Al have found that the secret to a happy marriage is to accept one another's idiosyncrasies.

Seasons 1 and 2, You Can't Have One Without The Other!

Review: When I was a kid television was rather stale.  When you go back now and see what passed for primetime television  now its kind of hard to stomach.  When FOX came around they were a new and rebellious network.  They brought us controvertial and hip programming at the time, like the Simpsons and, of course, Married With Children.   When this show aired, I actually wasn't allowed to watch it!  My mother forbid it, so I had to sneak it when no one was around, lol.  When you watch old shows, especially sit-coms, so little hold up, but this one is definately an exception.  Mill Creek gives us a combo of seasons one and two, which I love for two reasons.  Firstly, it saves me space!  I have thousands of DVDs and Blu-Ray and I need the room!  Second, the price is amazing.  This is a huge value for a great vintage show.

Cosby Show - Season 1 & 2 DVD Review

Synopsis: Contains All 49 Original Broadcast Episodes From The First Two Seasons!
Dr. Huxtable Prescribes a Double Dose Of Love & Laughter!

Seasons One and Two of this wildly popular TV series is paired together to form one amazing collection. Relive all your favorite moments from the show that TV Guide says almost single-handedly revived the sitcom. The Cosby Show regularly appears in lists of the greatest shows of all time, yet it remains as vibrant today as one of Cliff's Huxtable's sweaters!

From their brownstone in Brooklyn, Cliff and Clair Huxtable watched over their family with style, wit and wisdom, not to mention a whole lot of laughs. The values they represented clearly struck a nerve with the public as the show was an instant success - never out of the top 20 in the ratings, and one of only two shows to hold TV's #1 spot for five years in a row.

Review: There are few shows from the 1980s that still hold up today.  One of those shows is the Cosby Show!  The humor and family drama from this series still holds up so well today.  I love watching this series with my kids when I can find it in syndication, but that isn't often unfortunately.  Now, Mill Creek gives us the chance to add this great classic series to our library at a great price!  This is a must have.

Synopsis: When John Moon (Sam Rockwell) accidentally shoots a young woman and discovers a bag full of cash, the isolated hunter becomes the hunted. His struggle to conceal both the death and the money triggers a cascade of events and encounters that ultimately escalates into a battle for survival.

Review: A Single Shot is a complex film that really shows Sam Rockwell's dramatic range, something that we don't get often enough from him.  Too often we get this slapsticky, douchey Rockwell.  This time we get something deeper and more serious.  This film is really a fantastic journey that is full of suspense.  I found it to be an easy watch overall with a fantastic cast.  You really root for Rockwell's character, even when you aren't certain you should.  We definately recommend this one.

The special features include: Making of, Interviews with Cast and Crew and theTrailer

Review: There are few films that hit you with the intensity and gripping drama of real life.  Teh Killing Fields is the story of a tragic genocide that occured shortly after the Vietnam war.  The film stars John Malkovich in a role that made his career and still holds up today as one of the greatest and most dramatic films of all time.    This blu-ray book edition is an epic way to commemorate this film and the best way to add it to your personal library.  This one is a must see for any fan of dramatic film.

FOUR DVD Review

Synopsis: In a nameless, suburban American town, the smell of barbeque fills the air as Fourth of July celebrations move from a hot summer day into night. Joe, a man who works hard and travels a lot, leaves his family behind for the holiday, citing a business trip. Abigayle, his precocious daughter, is left to tend to her ill mother and manage the house on her own, yet again. Seeking just enough attention to get her through another night of her lonely responsibilities, she turns to Dexter, a former high school basketball star whose best days are behind him. And while Abigayle is out with Dexter, Joe is quietly spending time around town with June, a young man he met online who s struggling to accept himself. And for just this night, the small world that these four live in will become even smaller, though the freedom they experience has never been so dangerous, fleeting and honest. Adapted from Obie-winning, Pulitzer Prize-nominee Christopher Shinn s highly-acclaimed stage play, Four is full of the poetic and tender human drama of great theatre. STAR POWER! Wendell Pierce (The Michael J. Fox Show, The Wire, Treme) Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond the Pines, Smash) Aja Naomi King (Emily Owens, M.D., Onion News Network) E.J. Bonilla (The Mortician, Musical Chairs) Bonus Features-Commentary, Behind the Scenes Featurette, Theatrical Trailer, More from Wolfe.

Review: Four is a thought provoking film that is more of an art piece.  It centers around the lives of four people on the fourth of July.  The number four pervades the entire piece.  The movie shows the interconnecting pieces of these four people's lives.  Dealing with disease, closeted homosexuality, loss and desire.  This one will most definately challenge you and make you think.  Its a wonderful watch and we highly recommend.

Badges of Fury Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: When a series of eerie murders erupt across Hong Kong, two trouble making cops are assigned to the case. Young maverick WANG (Zhang Wen) is a reckless risk-taker, and grizzled vet HUANG (Jet Li) is fed up with cleaning up his rookie's messes. After discovering all the victims were former boyfriends of aspiring starlet LIU, the detectives (one now posing as her lover) are caught in a deadly game to lure the killer out.

Review: When I see Jet Li's name on a film I instantly think I'm seeing a martial arts themed epic.  Thats definately not the case with Badges of Fury, which is kinda cool.  Instead, we get an action-comedy.  In fact, its almost a spoof of sorts.  Thats not to say that the film doesn't have action, it certainly does.  The film is a really fun watch and definately gives an equal amount of laughs and action.

Rewind This! DVD Review

Synopsis: An exploding industry without rules! Direct to-video madness! VHS vs. Beta! In the 1980s, videotape changed the world and laid the foundation for modern media culture. REWIND THIS! traces the rise and fall of VHS from its heyday as the mainstream home video format to its current status as a nostalgic relic and prize to collectors who still cherish it. Featuring interviews with both filmmakers and enthusiasts from the VHS era, including Troma legend Lloyd Kaufman, indie auteur Atom Egoyan, and Hobo with a Shotgun filmmaker Jason Eisener, REWIND THIS! is the definitive story of the format that came to be synonymous with the home video revolution. So gather up your friends and start the pizza party just make sure to have your tapes back on time.

Review: I watch a lot of DVDs, as you can image.  I also watch a ton of television, netflix, whathaveyou.  I always have.  A good portion of what I enjoy are documentaries about various topics.  I'm kind of a nerd that way.  When I saw the cover to this particular documentary, Rewind This!, I knew instantly that I was going to love it.  When I began watching it, I found myself enjoying it so much that I wished it wouldn't end.   Rewind This! is a display of epic nostalgia for our time.  This comprehensive and completely enjoyable look at the history of the video tape from Betamax to VHS and how things have progressed now to DVD and Blu-ray and into digital media.  It talks with collectors and those passionate about preserving the media, which I greatly respect and understand.  If you are passionate about nostalgia.  If you enjoy the archival and preservation of the past, this documentary will engage and thrill you.  Buy this, buy this now.  This is the best thing I've seen in years.

Terraferma Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Set on and around a summer tourist island off the coast of Sicily, Terraferma tells the story of two struggling, yet disparate families, whose members become fatefully intertwined. A well-intentioned, but illegal rescue of immigrant boat people forces the individuals of the indigenous family to choose between their economic survival and doing the morally right thing.

Review: I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Terraferma.  What I got was a gripping, artistic and moving foreign film.  The movie really challenges the audience with deciding what the right moral paths are in life and will ultimately, I believe, in invigorate and refresh anyone that is tired of the typical Hollywood movie machine.  This film is astounding, unique and definately thought provoking.  We highly recommend.

Plus One (+1) DVD Review

Synopsis: Three college friends head out for the biggest party of the year, each looking for something different: sex, love, and a simple human connection. When a mysterious phenomenon disrupts the proceedings, it starts a chain reaction leading to the strangest night anyone has ever experienced. As the party descends into bloody chaos, the three friends must struggle to keep both their relationships and themselves alive. Director Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left) delivers thought-provoking suspense with +1, a supernatural thriller that tests the limits of survival and the loyalties of friendship.

Review: Plus One starts out like a typical idiotic teen party movie.  You honestly don't fee like there is any hope for this one, but they're fooling you.  Once they get to the stereotypical 'epic party of all time' where everyone is looking for acceptance, or to get laid, suddenly a paranormal phenomenon occurs and duplicates of themselves appear and it seems as though maybe time travel has occured..you're not sure for awhile, but things aren't quite kosher.  The whole thing amps up and becomes one of the most thought provoking films I've seen in ages.  This one is a thrilling must see for audiences of all ages.  Ok, audiences over the age of 18, lol.

Enough Said Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: James Gandolfini, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Catherine Keener shine in this heartwarming comedy that A.O. Scott of The New York Times calls "a small miracle of a movie." Divorced mom Eva (Louis-Dreyfus) may be falling for Albert (Gandolfini), a sweet, funny, like-minded divorc‚. But as their relationship blossoms, Eva befriends Marianne (Keener), who's always complaining about her ex-husband. When Eva realizes that Albert is the target of Marianne's rants, she begins to question her own perceptions about first impressions and second chances.

Review:  The first thing that strikes you about this film is the cast.  Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a really lovable screw up, and always has been since her days in Seinfeld.  The late, great James Gandolfini, on the other hand, still projects a certain power and respectability from his days on the Sopranos.  His character in this, while hulking, is far from menacing.  He's gentle, sweet and kind.  This is a great examination of relationships and how easy it is to self sabotage.  Its a great watch and definately one to add to your own library!

Everyone’s Favorite Funny Lady - Reliving Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ top moments

To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of Enough Said on January 14th, let’s look at some top screen moments from the film’s leading lady, Julia Louis- Dreyfus. Julia’s resume means serious business with star performances in shows such as Seinfeld, Veep and Saturday Night Live. Believe it or not, her screen debut was given by comedy master Woody Allen in the 1986 hit feature Hannah and her Sisters. Working with the great writer/director clearly had a positive effect on her future career playing comedic roles. Here are a few of our favourites:

Elaine Benes – Seinfeld

Elaine Benes—old flame and now good friend of Jerry—is possibly Julia’s most famous role.

Favorite moment: Elaine's nickname becomes "Nip", after she accidentally shows a nipple on a Christmas card, created by Kramer. Mortified at first, Elaine later crops the wardrobe malfunction off of the photograph and uses it for her health club ID. How resourceful!

Leslie – Deconstructing Harry

Deconstructing Harry marks Julia’s second time working with writer-director, Woody Allen. Allen plays a writer, and Julia brings to life one of the fictional characters from his work.

Favorite moment: Julia’s character and another of Harry’s fictional characters are caught in an intimate moment by a blind woman who enters the room unexpectedly. Hilarity ensues when the couple continue to misbehave while the blind women obliviously engages them in conversation.

Maggie Lizer – Arrested Development

Maggie Lizer, or Maggie “lies her ass off,” is an Orange County attorney and brief love interest of the show’s main character Michael Bluth. Lizer manages to give lawyers an even worse reputation, as she uses every trick in the book to gain sympathy from the judge and juries on her case.

Favorite moment: Being led to believe that she is blind, we later find out that Lizer has only been pretending to not be able to see to help her cheat on her bar exam—and get free pizza.

Selina Meyer- Veep With grand ambitions and passions like passions environmental conservation, job creation and Senate reform, Meyer is a politician we want to root for. If only it wasn’t for her incompetent staff and political red tape waiting to thwart even her most humble ambitions…

Favorite moment: Selena suddenly comes down with a stomach virus during a photo op at a local frozen yogurt shop. Her intestinal troubles cause a hasty retreat back to the limo, proving even the Vice President isn’t immune to an embarrassing moment.

Eva – Enough Said   As divorced single parent Eva, we get to see Julia in a role that not only displays the comedic chops that we know and love, but also the softer, more dramatic side of her acting range. Eva’s courtshipwith fellow divorcĂ©e Albert (James Gandolfini) is a modern love story, full of nuances, real moments and—of course—more than a few laughs.

Favorite moment: Awkward! Eva overhears her new best friend talking on the phone with her ex-husband—who also happens to be Eva’s new boyfriend.

Enough Said is available on DVD and Blu-ray on January 14
