The original series made its television debut in 1983 and ran until 1985, consisting of two seasons of 65 episodes each. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is an animated television series based on Mattel's successful toy line Masters of the Universe. The show, often referred to as simply He-Man, was one of the most popular animated children's shows of the 1980s and has retained a heavy following to this day.
Mattel's re-launched the He-Man toy line, and released an update of the series for a contemporary audience in 2002.  Unlike the previous He-Man series, set on the futuristic planet of Eternia, this version sought to return to the roots of the storyline and provide broader explorations never reached in the first series, including origins for each character, and some first time animated debuts of familiar toyline faces. The series made its premiere on Cartoon Network's Toonami on August 16, 2002.

History Channel - I Know What I Saw DVD Review

History Channel - I Know What I Saw DVD Review

Synopsis: Director and host James Fox assembles the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify on the subject and share their experiences and observations. Air Force generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries gather at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. to tell stories that, as former Arizona governor Fife Symington states, 'will challenge your reality.' These accounts reveal a behind-the-scenes U.S. operation whose policy, in the eyes of some observers, seems to involve confiscation of substantiating evidence from close encounters--to the extent that even Presidents have failed to get straight answers.

Review: Ok, lets face it there aren't a lot of credible UFO sightings out there.  A lot of times they end up being weather balloons or night flares or just plain a hoax.   James Fox brings us the History Channel documentary 'I Know What I Saw', which is quite possibly the first credible look at UFO sightings that I have ever seen.

I enjoy following the details of UFO sightings.  The possibility is very interesting, it just usually doesn't pan out and I'm not the kind of person to go on faith, so I need the evidence.  'I Know What I Saw' gives us evidence after evidence and interviews with actual credible sources in the government and military.  Its a phenominal documentary and perfect for anyone with any level of interest in UFOs.

Dear John Blu-Ray Review

Dear John Blu-Ray  Review

Synopsis: It was two weeks that would change their lives forever. Soon after John (Channing Tatum – PUBLIC ENEMIES, G.I. JOE) and Savannah (Amanda Seyfried - MAMMA MIA, TV’s “Big Love") fall madly in love, their relationship is put on hold. With one leaving to complete his service, and the other to complete her college education, they pass the time by exchanging a continuous stream of love letters, until they can be reunited permanently a year later. But when war breaks out, their separation is extended indefinitely. Will their relationship survive the greatest test of all: the test of time? Based on the bestselling novel from the author of “The Notebook,” DEAR JOHN is a timeless romance that will warm your heart.

Review: When you go into a movie like Dear John you kinda know what to expect, especially as a guy.  This is the kind of film that instantly gets classified under 'chick flick' and never gets a fair shake.  It stars Channing Tatum, who I enjoyed in GI Joe, and Amanda Seyfried.

This movie is cliche in some ways and sure it ends up the way you think it will, but its a nice film to curl up on the couch and enjoy with your sweetheart.

The extras on the Blu-Ray set include:

True Blood: The Complete Second Season Blu-Ray Review

True Blood: The Complete Second Season Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Welcome back to Bon Temps, home to mystery, Southern sensuality and dark secrets. For Sookie Stackhouse, life is more dangerous than ever after she and Bill become more deeply involved. Meanwhile, Tara finds herself under a lover's spell; Sam puts his trust in an unlikely ally; Jason becomes involved with an anti-vampire sect; Eric becomes interested in Sookie after he recruits her to investigate the disappearance of his 2,000-year-old maker; and Maryann is revealed to possess a power that can control almost everyone in town. Then, after making a shocking discovery, Sookie, Bill and Sam must form the last line of defense against a diabolical plan that raises this award-winning series to bloody new heights.

True Blood: The Complete Second Season includes all 12 episodes of this critically acclaimed series from Alan Ball, writer of the Academy Award®-winning Best Picture American Beauty and creator of Six Feet Under. Loaded with special features, this essential 5-disc set is certain to quench the curiosity of True Blood fans everywhere.

Review: Twilight?!  Who needs that crap?  Thats kid's stuff....adults have HBO's True Blood!  If you're a fan of vampires, then this is the show for you.  The mix of violence, sensuality and drama is absolutely riveting.   Originally a book series known as the Southern Vampire Mysteries, True Blood has captured the imaginations of sci-fi and vampire fans everywhere!

Season 2 brings us closer into the world of Sookie Stackhouse and we get a lot of the anti-vampire undertones in the show, which reflect the southern racism experienced in our world.  Its a great paralell and really helps to bring legitimacy to the show.  The characters are out of control and the tension is really beginning to mount in Bon Temps!

The Blu-Ray high-definition transfer looks fantastic.  It really helps the dark scenes in the show, which are frequent, to pop and give definition.   This is a show that is a must-own!

30 Days: The Complete Series DVD Review

30 Days: The Complete Series DVD Review

Synopsis: 30 DAYS features a diverse group of participants, each given the opportunity to experience first-hand a world antithetical to their own comfortable existence. Each installment examines a different subject, explores topical issues and conducts fascinating social experiments. As each 30 DAYS participant learns about the lives and beliefs of others, viewers learn more about themselves.

Review: This television series stars now legendary documentary man Morgan Spurlock, who is famous for his ground breaking 'Super Size Me'.   Now, Spurlock literally puts himself into other people's shoes in this series 30 Days.

Amongst the best of the episodes are Spurlock living in prison, as an immigrant, a homosexual and a muslim.  He takes you through the lives of each person in an episode and shows you the various strife that they encounter.  He never does anything to insight the people around him, he simply exists and the reactions that happen naturally are astounding and often saddening.

This show will give you a great perspective on the lives of other people.  I cannot recommend it enough.

Jermal DVD Review

Jermal DVD Review

Synopsis: After his mother s death, Jaya (12) is sent to his father, Johar, who works as a supervisor on a jermal (a fishing platform perched on log stilts in the middle of the sea). Johar is shocked, never knowing he has a son, and rejects the boy as his kin. Fully aware he can t bring Jaya back to land due to a dark past, Johar is forced to accept the boy as a worker on the site. Faced with constant rejection from his father and relentless bullying by the other boys who work on the jermal, Jaya decides to take fate into his own hands. He gives up hope on being accepted and learns the skills and attitude needed to survive on the jermal. Jaya increasingly becomes like the other boys: a tough, rough survivor; while Johar is forced to gradually face and accept his past. Eventually, both Johar and Jaya learn that they are bound by their past, united by the space in which they move, and connected by the inescapable truth. In the beginning, they meet as strangers; in the end, they leave as father and Son.

Review: I really enjoy foreign and independant film.  I'm not sure that I've ever seen an Indonesian film before Jermal.   This film is about a boy that is trying to fit into his new environment, only to be rejected time and again.  Until the boy shows that he is an intense survivor, he finally learns to accept himself and his past.  The film is not only emotional and moving, but its a great story of the coming of age of a young man.  I highly recommend it.

Summer Hours: The Criterion Collection DVD Review

Summer Hours: The Criterion Collection DVD Review

Synopsis: Widely hailed by critics as 2009’s best film, Summer Hours is the great contemporary French filmmaker Olivier Assayas’s most personal film to date. Three siblings, played by Juliette Binoche, Charles Berling, and Jérémie Renier, must decide what to do with the country estate and objects they’ve inherited from their mother. From this simple story, Assayas creates a nuanced, exquisitely made drama about the material of globalized modern living. Naturalistic and unsentimental yet suffused with genuine warmth, this is that rare film that pays respect to family by treating it with honesty.

Review: I have seen a lot of films about family drama and even the aftermaths of death and how it can affect a family.  Never before have I see such a masterful and emotional work as Summer Hours.  Summer Hours is a film by the great Olivier Assayas.

The Summer Hours is many things, amongst those is insightful, unique and emotionally trying.  The film is largely quiet, meaning that there is very little music, and that really adds to the feel and atmosphere of the movie.

This Criterion Edition of the film gives a new high-definition transfer, new video interview with Assayas, an on-set documentary, an hour long documentary, the theatrical trailer, a new and improved English subtitle translation and a booklet with an essay by critic Kent Jones.

North Face DVD Review

North Face DVD Review

Synopsis: Based on a true story, North Face is a suspenseful adventure film about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. Set in 1936, as Nazi propaganda urges the nation s Alpinists to conquer the unclimbed north face of the Swiss massif the Eiger two reluctant German climbers begin their daring ascent.

Review: We've seen our fair share of movies here at the Legion, as you might imagine.  Included are plenty of action-packed mountain climbing films.  North Face is without a doubt the most out of the mold film in it's genre.  It resides in a backdrop of pre-Olympics 1936 when the Nazis were hoping to show their might at the Olympics and climbing this mountain would help to solidify their superiority prior to the event.

In this film we see Germans Toni Kurz and Andreas Hinterstoisser climb this mountain with the backdrop of rising Nazi Germany.  It makes for a very interesting an fun movie.  The backdrop definately helps to add to the level of suspense at many times.  The film is full of action and suspense, all the way to the conclusion.

Warner Archive: Strange New World DVD Review

Warner Archive: Strange New World DVD Review

Synopsis: Cult icon John Saxon (Enter the Dragon) battles clones, barbarians, beasts and more in this startling sci-fi adventure based on concepts developed by Gene Roddenberry, the visionary creator of Star Trek. After 180 years in a cryogenic freeze, a trio of astronauts returns to Earth, only to find giant asteroids have devastated the planet. Roaming across America’s vast wastelands, they encounter weird new cities, strange civilizations and bizarre descendants of Earth’s distant past. Co-written by Academy Award® winner* Walon Green (The Wild Bunch), Strange New World features foxy film femmes Martine Beswick (Thunderball), Catherine Bach (The Dukes of Hazzard) and 1974 Playmate of the Year Cynthia Wood (Apocalypse Now) in an otherworldly thriller where Earth itself is the final frontier.

Review: We were very excited to get our hands on this new DVD release from the Warner Archive.  The Archive releases some obscure stuff, but this one takes the cake!  Star Trek fans rejoice, as 'Strange New World', the third attempt to bring Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future to television, comes to DVD!   The two previous attempts, Genesis II and Planet Earth, didn't take off, so they tried a third time, but Roddenberry opted out this time.  What was the result?

This 97 minute DVD includes the pilot episode for this failed series.  It is the third in the sci-fi favorite PAX series, developed by Roddenberry.  The DVD looks fantastic, you can tell it was made from the original masters.  To get this released at all is such a treat, but by the Warner Archive, that just makes it all the better!  The show is a lot of fun and an absolute must for any Roddenberry or sci-fi fan.

Waiting For Armageddon DVD Review

Waiting For Armageddon DVD Review

Synopsis: Waiting for Armageddon explores the culture of 50 million American Evangelicals who believe that Bible prophecy dictates the future of mankind and that Israel and the Jewish people play pivotal roles in ensuring Christ's return. The film raises questions regarding how this theology shapes U.S. - Middle East relations and may encourage an international holy war.

Review: We love our documentaries here at the LEGION.  When we saw the information on 'Waiting for Armageddon' we knew that it would be rather controvertial on the topic of religion, so we decided to give it a watch.  Wow, what a mess.

The documentary is fantastic, its these people that are a mess!   We get an overview of the religious right in America.  The evangelicals that control most of our government and communications.  Then, we delve into three specific couples' lives.  We hear their views on the end of the world, the rapture and the coming battle when Christ returns.

This documentary is very relevant for any Jewish people that aren't really that familiar with the evangelicals.  You may change your ideas about them and why they may like you.  They don't wish for peace in the Middle East.  They don't appreciate your religion, they simply need to use you for the end of the world to come to pass.  Its really quite absurd.

This documentary is great for those interested in religion.

Intent on shaking up the ultimate 'sacred cow' for Jews, Israeli director Yoav Shamir embarks on a provocative -- and at times irreverent -- quest to answer the question, "What is anti-Semitism today?" Does it remain a dangerous and immediate threat? Or is it a scare tactic used by right-wing Zionists to discredit their critics?

Speaking with an array of people from across the political spectrum (including the head of the Anti-Defamation League and its fiercest critic, author Norman Finkelstein) and traveling to places like Auschwitz (alongside Israeli school kids) and Brooklyn (to explore reports of violence against Jews), Shamir discovers the realities of anti-Semitism today. His findings are shocking, enlightening and - surprisingly - often wryly funny.

Review: We LOVE documentaries here at the Legion.  We just can't get enough of them.  I thought when I started watching this documentary that it'd be about the suffering of the Jewish people.  I didn't realize how interesting it was really going to be.

Yoav Shamir takes us on a path to discover whether anti-semetism really exists.  Apparently, there is an organization within the government, the ADL,  that targets certain 'enemies of the state' and tries to use the guise of anti-semetism to defame them.    The truth behind the curtain is that most of the "hate" is smoke and mirrors and peace isn't a far off concept.

What a highly interesting documentary!  This one is highly recommended.

American Pickers: The Complete Season One DVD Review

Synopsis: In small towns, and along America's back roads, treasures are waiting to be uncovered--valuable relics from our history that are hidden in junk piles, buried in barns and stacked in garages. It takes experts to find them...and turn rust to riches. Season One of AMERICAN PICKERS on HISTORY follows highly skilled 'pickers' Mike Wolfe, owner of Antique Archaeology in Iowa, and his business partner Frank Fritz, as they hunt down objects with historical, collectible and pop culture value that have been long forgotten by their owners. From a vintage Harley to a one-of-a-kind Ferris wheel, each treasure hunt uncovers weird and wonderful Americana, offering a glimpse into a little-known side of the antiques business. Along the way, Mike and Frank meet people whose own stories open a window into American lives and history.

DISC 2 (4 episodes, approx 180 min): Back Breaker / Mole Man / Frank's Gamble / 5 Acres of Junk

DISC 3 (4 half-hour episodes, approx 92 min): Bigfoot in Alabama / Know When to Fold / Fill er Up / Leland's Cafe

Review: I had seen promos for American Pickers on television, but I hadn't caught the show until the other night, when my wife put it on.  We enjoy show like Antiques Roadshow and this is a lot like an extreme version of that.  The DVD came in the mail and I was really into it, so I blew through the entire thing in two days.

Whats great about American Pickers is to watch and see all the junk that they go through.  Its almost more like an episode of Hoarders from A&E.  I kinda expect the two film crews to run into each other.  They find these crazy guys with a large piece of land that is filled with piles and piles of junk, and they dig until they find something worth while.

The cool thing is they show you the item, tell you about it, and let you know how much they paid and how much its worth on resale.  Its definately a fun show, especially if you're into collecting or hunting for junk.

In each 60-minute episode of Hoarders, A&E follows two people struggling to overcome their compulsive behavior while experts work to put them on the road to recovery. For some, throwing away even the tiniest possession a sponge, a button, an empty box is so painful that they won t be able to complete the cleaning process...no matter the consequences. At the end of each episode find out who has been able to keep their hoarding behavior at bay and who, despite help, is still lost inside this painful disease.

DISC 2 (3 episodes, approx 141 min + bonus): Kerrylea/Lauren; Patty/Bill; Paul/Missy & Alex; Bonus

Review: My wife and I tune into Hoarders every single week.  It doesn't matter if its re-runs, my wife looks forward to 'Castle' on ABC Monday nights and then 'Hoarders' on A&E!   If you haven't seen this show before, then hold into your seat!  If you think you're a little messy or disorganized, then you won't believe these people's homes!

Wall to wall junk or trash.  Floors that you cannot walk on, because they're covered in garbage or papers.  Piles up to the ceiling and rooms that can't be used.  Everything from extreme overclutter and overcollecting to absolute filth.

Hoarding is a very serious mental illness, often triggered by a traumatic event or events in someone's life.  You hear story after story of sexual abuse, traumatic death and loss and other terrible life events.  Thats not to say that Hoarders is a depressing show, far from it.  Its more like a fascinating look into someone else's world, documentary style.

I cannot recommend Hoarders enough.  Its a fantastic show and this complete season set not only gives you every episode from the first season, but some additional footage, as well.   Get in on the show that everyone is talking about and get a compassionate look at a relatively unknown illness.  We have known a few Hoarders in real-life and I can tell you that this show is no dramatization, things really exist like this and they are that bad!

The Louis L'Amour Collection DVD Review

Synopsis: Three hard-riding movie adaptations of the legendary author's novels. CATLOW: A renegade outlaw wants to pull off a gold heist but finds it hard because he's such a wanted man, by the Mexican Army, his hellcat girlfriend, an Indian war party, a vengeful killer and several hotheaded cowpokes from his former gang. Yul Brynner, Richard Crenna and Leonard Nimoy star. THE SACKETTS: Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott and Jeff Osterhage play brothers who migrate west to make their fortunes in cattle-herding and gold prospecting. Each aims to make it on his own, but each also stands up for the other when the going gets tough. And their guns blaze a name for themselves in untamed New Mexico territory. CONAGHER: He conquered the range. She conquered his heart. Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross star as a cowhand and a widowed ranch owner who are drawn to each other when ruthless rustlers threaten his livelihood and her homestead.
Review: Who is Louis L'Amour?  His western novels are famous for their grit and realism.  They're full of drama and old west adventure that are sure to capture the imagination of any fan.  These classic novels were turned into movies at one time, and now Warner Brothers is collecting some of these in the Louis L'Amour Collection.

The films in this set include such great actors as Sam Elliott, Yul Brynner and even Leondard Nimoy!  The three film set is a great homage to the writing and talent of L'Amour, which is sometimes overlooked.  The western was a great work of art back in the day and it would be great to make it see a comeback.  Until then, we can now enjoy some of the finest examples of dramatic western to ever hit the silver screen.

Enjoy these 6 wise and wonderful all-family primetime animated specials that made enduring TV favorites of Charlie Brown and his friends! One is marking its DVD Premiere.

Review: We love Charlie Brown.  He's such a blockhead.  I kinda felt like him growing up...heck, sometimes I still do!  The Charlie Brown holiday specials are well-known, especially the Halloween and Xmas.  They re-run them every year.  What they don't re-run are the dozens of other made for tv specials that exist.

Avatar Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack Review

Avatar Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack Review

Synopsis: A reluctant hero. An epic journey. A choice between the life he left behind and the incredible new world he’s learned to call home. Return to James Cameron’s Avatar — the greatest adventure of all time.

Review: Avatar is one of those films that has transcended all genre and boundry to become the highest grossing film of all-time.  James Cameron has directed some of the best action films in history, such as Aliens, T2 and Titanic.   Avatar is an agressive and ambitious look into the most cutting edge filmmaking technology.   The budget kept raising to almost a reported 500 million dollars, and the gamble paid off.

Avatar has built a following based on the technology, rather than the story.  It has been compared to everything from Dances with Wolves to Fern Gully.  I can completely see the reason for the comparisons.  Its a cute movie, but I wasn't as impressed with the graphics as some were.  Granted, I'm very picky when it comes to cgi realism, but the action was definately there.

This DVD / Blu-Ray combo pack release doesn't include anything for special features or 3D technology.  The Blu-Ray looks really great and its nice to get ahold of this huge film so quickly to own!  The report is that a special edition is coming out later this year around Xmas time.

Invictus Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack Review

Invictus Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack Review

Synopsis: What does Nelson Mandela do after becoming president of South Africa? He rejects revenge, forgives oppressors who jailed him 27 years for his fight against apartheid and finds hope of national unity in an unlikely place: the rugby field. Clint Eastwood (named 2009's Best Director by the National Board of Review) directs an uplifting film about a team and a people inspired to greatness. Morgan Freeman (NBR's Best Actor Award winner and Oscar nominee for this role) is Mandela, who asks the national rugby team captain (Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee Matt Damon) and his squad to do the impossible and win the World Cup. Prepare to be moved--and thrilled.

Review: When you see that Clint Eastwood is directing a film you know that its going to be moving.  The man made some crazy action films in his day, but his directoral work has been deep and dramatic.  It has shown us an entirely different side of Eastwood that I'm glad was able to surface.

Invictus is another fine example of Eastwood's vision.  He's cast Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela.  What a perfect situation.  I think that Freeman could bring legitimacy to just about any role, he's just one of these guys that glows with integrity.  Matt Damon is another one of those actors that really commits.  This film is deeply emotional and very uplifting.

The Blu-Ray is the only way to go!   Warner Brothers is offering a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack for Invictus, which is a great situation.  You can get the best of both worlds.

History of the World, Part I Blu-Ray Review

History of the World, Part I Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: The term “revisionist history” is given a new meaning in History Of The World: Part I, a laugh-filled version of the story of mankind. Featuring an all-star cast with Brooks, Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn and Gregory Hines, the film proves that nothing, including history, is sacred.

Review: Mel Brooks was America's answer to Monty Python.  He was never quite as funny as the Python boys, but he made a dang fine effort.  He was on the top of American comedic and spoof filmmaking.  This films still go down as some of the best.  Everything from Blazing Saddles to Spaceballs.  History of the World may be one of his best, though.

Talk about hilarious spoof comedy.  This one takes the history of civilication and rips it apart, Python style.  Its a fantastic effort and really does a great job of providing out loud laughs, and honestly how many movies can do that these days?

The Blu-Ray transfer looks great for such an old film.  You can tell that they really took their time and tried to make these Mel Brooks releases nice.  You can also get Robin Hood: Men in Tights and High Anxiety on Blu-Ray!

High Anxiety Blu-Ray Review

High Anxiety Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: An outrageous homage to the Hitchcock thriller about a nut-job with a paralyzing fear of heights, High Anxiety stars the comic genius himself as renowned Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Richard Thorndyke who’s just become head of the Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very Very Nervous. Co-starring Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman and Madeline Kahn, High Anxiety is considered one of Brooks’ best.

Review: Mel Brooks is one of the masters of comedy.   His films have broken so much ground, from Young Frankenstein to Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs.  High Anxiety is one of the more overlooked films.  Its basically a tribute to old Hitchcock film.   They don't straight spoof on it, its more of a fun homage.  The film is very underrated and definately a sleeper cult classic.

The Blu-Ray transfer looks fantastic.  Its so great that they're finally releasing the Mel Brooks movies individually on Blu-Ray.  They released the Mel Brooks Blu-Ray collection last year, but this is a great way to pick up the individual releases that you may want.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights Blu-Ray Review

Robin Hood: Men in Tights Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Brooks pulls off another serious spoof on a classic with Robin Hood: Men in Tights. The one-of-a-kind cast includes Cary Elwes as the head of the merry men, Roger Rees as the evil dyslexic Sheriff of “Rottingham,” Richard Lewis as the seriously neurotic Prince John, Amy Yasbeck as the put-upon Maid Marian, Patrick Stewart as ultrrrra-Scottish King Richard, Tracey Ullman as a much-sought-after soothsayer named Latrine and Dave Chappelle and Isaac Hayes as hilarious characters named Achchoo and Asneeze.

Review: Robin Hood: Men in Tights was one of the last great spoof films from Mel Brooks.  It featured great comedic actors like Cary Elwes and the later to be infamous Dave Chappelle.  With the new Robin Hood film coming to theaters, this film finds a new relevance.

The big question...how does the blu-ray look?  Well, let me tell you that I haven't been quick to recommend older film put onto blu-ray for lack of quality.  Its hard to convert something up and have it look anything but grainy and terrible.  These Mel Brooks films, however, have managed to transfer very nicely to blu-ray and are most definately worth the buy.

Valentine's Day Blu-Ray Review

Valentine's Day Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: The starriest cast you may ever see sparkles in a hilarious and heartwarming romcom from the director of Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries. Stories crisscross, collide and boomerang in this look at a day in the life of love. There's a proposal. Flowers that didn't get sent. A big fat secret that's finally told. The "I'll show up and surprise him" that ended up surprising her. Fights, kisses, wrong turns, right moves and more. Whether new to or through with love, you'll fall in love with this 19-star, funny-side-up celebration of romance.

Review: I think that Gary Marshall is famous for bringing us the typical American film.  The kind where love conquers all, and everything ends as it should.  Thats not how real life works of course, but we're suspending reality, right?   Gary makes amazing films and they are always full of big-name actors.  This one is no exception, sporting everyone from Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner to Eric Dane (McSteamy!) and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover).

"Love is the only shocking act left on the planet!", spouts Ashton's character to a television crew.  He may be right, sadly.   This movie is charming and romantic to it's core, and does a good job of avoiding being cheesy.  It features a few bad performances, notably by Taylor Laughtner (Twilight) and Taylor Swift.  They're both absolutely horrible "actors" and I have no idea why people pay them money to see them do anything....ever.  Beyond that, everyone does a nice job.  Jessica Alba phones in another performance based on her looks, but the rest of the cast actually was there to work and does a great job of creating a world that is believable and worth caring about.

Valentine's Day is very much an American version of 'Love, Actually'.  Its a great movie to curl up with your loved one on the couch with and enjoy.  It has a few laughs and definately some ackward situations, so its fun to watch.  The blu-ray looks fantastic, and this combo pack gives you the flexibility to maybe watch the film in rooms where you don't have a blu-ray player.  I know that we have one in the living room, but not our bedroom, so its nice to have the option of watching a film wherever we like.

The Karate Kid I and II Double Feature Blu-Ray Set Review

The Karate Kid I and II Double Feature Blu-Ray Set Review

Synopsis: Karate Kid I From Academy Award®-winning director John G. Avildsen (1976, ROCKY) comes the highly entertaining, coming-of-age classic that will have you cheering! Starring Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki “Pat” Morita in his Academy Award®-nominated performance (Best Supporting Actor, 1984) as Mr. Miyagi. Karate II Returning with Daniel (Ralph Macchio) to his Okinawa home for the first time in 45 years, Miyagi (Noriyuki “Pat” Morita) encounters Yukie (Nobu McCarthy), the woman he left behind when he immigrated to America.

Review: There are only a few movies from the 1980s that will go down in history as breaking any ground.  In most eras we get a few great films and then a ton of copycats and cliche and predictable filmmaking.  The Karate Kid was a true original.  Its a classic and one of those films that I feel every child of the 80s should own!

They are re-making the Karate Kid this June, so Sony is re-releasing the two best Karate Kid Films, this time on Blu-Ray!

This new two-pack from Sony features the individual releases of Karate Kid I and Karate Kid II on Blu-Ray.   The transfer on both of these is surprisingly nice.  Obviously, they don't have the ability to really "pop" on-screen like modern releases do, but they look great.

LEGION Blu-Ray Review

LEGION Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: At a remote desert truck stop, the fate of the world will be decided. Evil's armies are amassing. Armed and united by the Archangel Michael (Paul Bettany, The Da Vinci Code, Iron Man 2), a group of strangers become unwitting soldiers on the frontlines of the Apocalypse. Their mission: protect a waitress and her sacred unborn child from the relentless, bloody siege of the demonic legion. Also starring Dennis Quaid (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Vantage Point), Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) and Lucas Black (Jarhead).

Review: I don't know what it is about religious-themed film that intrigues viewers.  When I see a movie I want to see a fantasy world, so I get that bit, but I enjoy seeing something far removed from my daily life and religion is so inter-twined into most people's lives that you would think they'd rather explore different topics, but movies like Legion show us otherwise.  The basic premise is Angels vs. Demons battling it out over the future of humanity.  While not exactly biblically accurate, its certainly Christian-themed with the basis being a reality where God, Angels and Demons exist.

Paul Bettany is creepy.  Can I just say it?  Can't it be said?  The guy just creeps me out.  He has ever since the DaVinci code.  He just has a creepy demeanor, lol.  This movie is rather mindless and action-driven, regardless of the implications of a religious theme.  Don't let that fool you, this movie is far more geared towards action, suspense and horror junkies.  I honestly don't know how happy religious folks will be with this film.  If you're loosely religious you will probably enjoy it.  Basically, "God" decides humans are done for and sends down angels to destroy them.  Paul Bettany decides to defy God and defend humanity.  Bullets, blood and insanity prevail as the fate of the world is determined at a truck stop.

The film looks great in high-definition.  With all of the graphics involved, its definately the only way to view this film.   Legion holds relation closer to Kevin Smith's Dogma, rather than the Book of Eli, which is just fine in this reviewer's book.
