Synopsis: A dramatized documentary investigating accusations that "Forbidden Love" author Norma Khouri made up her biographical tale of a Muslim friend who was killed for dating a Christian.

Review: What a bizarre documentary this is!  The concept behind Forbidden Lies is from a 2003 book written by Jordanian Norma Khouri.  Khouri told the tale of an honor killing where a father had stabbed his daughter in the stomach after she fell in love with a Christian soldier and then received only three months in jail for the crime.  This tale horrified us all in the post 9-11 world.  The only catch is….it was a load of crap!  The story was revealed as false a year after the book was published, thanks to huge glaring factual errors in the book.

Now, a documentary is made to give Khouri a platform to sob and confess and also still persist that she wasn’t completely lying and take us on a journey to discover the truth..or at least her version of it.  I found this documentary to be highly entertaining, mostly because of all the drama queen moments with Khouri.  Its definitely a great watch.

Review: Ok, so HBO has this new show called Bored to Death.  HBO is famous for high-quality programming, so we figured that we would check this out.  Then, we saw that it was going to have Jason Schwartzman (Shopgirl) AND Zach Galifianakis (the Hangover) as the main roles!  The casting alone was enough to secure our viewership, and all season long we were not disappointed!  This is one of those short series with less than 10 episodes, but they're all comedy gold!  This isn't so much slapstick comedy as it is ackward and uncomfortable situation comedy, much like 'Curb your Enthusiasm' or 'Seinfeld'.   

Bored to Death is one of the best new shows we've seen in a long while.  It also includes cameos from Ted Danson, who plays an absolutely insane boss to Schwartzman.  The cast is ackward and strange and the show is so unique, its not to be missed!   The second season is about to begin, so now is a great time to get caught up!

Review: We've been following How I Met Your Mother from the very first episode five years ago, and it has only gotten better!  I really liked the idea of not knowing who the mother of his kids ends up being.  At first, I was deliberating between cast members, but over the years it has become increasingly clear that its someone we haven't been introduced to yet.  

the best part of the show is that its basically a showcase for Neil Patrick Harris.  You may remember Neil from the old Doogie Howser television show.  Well, in How I Met Your Mother Harris gained fame yet again with his role as the womanizing Barney (which is made even more funny by the fact that Harris is openly gay in real life!)  He is the life of the show and is absolutely hilarious.  Jason Segel also started on this show, you may know him as the mastermind behind films like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".  This show is consistantly funny and the fifth season does not disappoint!

This story is based on Jeff Loeb's popular mini-series from the Superman/Batman comic books.

Review: The Dc Universe films have really been pushing the envelope as far as quality adult-themed comic book inspired animation.  The latest installment in this series is Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.   This movie is based on the "Supergirl from Krypton" arc in Superman/Batman comic book #8-13, pencilled by the late and great Michael Turner.

The film follows the arc quite well from begining to end.  Fan-Favorite Kevin Conroy is back as Batman and he doesn't disappoint!  Tim Daly is also back as Superman, so that really brings some magic to this film.  Summer Glau (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) does a wonderful job as Supergirl, as well.

My one and ONLY complaint about this film is the casting of Andre Braugher as Darkseid.  He's a fine actor, but his voice was all wrong for the role.  I really hoped for something a bit deeper and more ominous.  It was just too ordinary.

The Dc Animated Short was Green Arrow this go around.  It was absolutely wonderful!  It features Merlyn and Count Vertigo...along with Black Canary!  I could go for an entire Dc Universe film based on Green Arrow.

The film looks great on blu-ray.  The high-definition is the way to go!   This one is fantastic, I would rate it right up there with Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Review: The Experiment is one of those films that I would've skipped if I'd just seen the cover of the film.  It looks like a cheesey prison flick.  What it actually turns out to be is a great sociological experiment that goes terribly wrong. 

Adrian Brody stars in this aggressive and haunting film.  I wouldn't have placed him as a tough leading man, except that his role in 'Predators' this summer was actually quite outstanding.  This experiment only lasts two weeks, but it doesn't take long for the survival instincts to kick in and everyone goes absolutely crazy in the prison, falling way too far into their roles.  

The high-definition blu-ray adds to the grit and grime of the prison life.  I really recommend viewing this film on the blu-ray format.

Review: This film is the direct-to-DVD sequel to the 1997 film 'Stomp the Yard'.  Why did it go directly to DVD?  Well, to be honest its a bit predictable.  This dancer falls in with the wrong crowd and owes them money.  If he can't pay them back, they will break those dancin' legs!  Of corse, a dancing competition just happens to have a large cash prize!  Convenient!  Honestly, though, the dancing and choreography in this film will far surpass the rather predictable plot, because that is really the point of these movies.  I will give the film that the quality of the dance sequences is really high, its really well done.

Review: The new ABC Wednesday night this past year spawned some great comedy shows!  One of the best and most acclaimed shows to come from this was Modern Family!  The show is shot in the documentary style of other shows, like the Office.   It follows a family that has a man re-married to a younger woman and her child, a gay couple with their child and a family with a dopey husband, a wife and their kids. 

This show is not to be missed.  It is now even an Emmy award winning show, so don't miss out on this great blu-ray.  It looks fantastic in high-definition and its full of ackward comedy and tons of laughs.

Review: The lastest in the Tinker Bell movie series is here!  Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue!  We're typically a bit critical of spin-offs, but this Tinker Bell series has been very successful.  The films are always entertaining, sweet and fun.

In the Great Fairy Rescue Tinker Bell is catapolted into the 'real world' to help a little girl named Lizzy with her life, meanwhile her fairy friends set off on a mission to the human world to rescue Tink!  Its a really great quality movie and I can't figure out for the life of me why Disney didn't release it to mass audiences in theaters!  Its that good.

Disney has pioneered the blu-ray and DVD combo packs and this release is no exception!  You get the blu-ray for the family to keep nice and the DVD that the kids can abscond with to their rooms or viewing areas!   And believe me you want the blu-ray, this film looks amazing in high-definition.

Review: Its rare that a show comes along that really captures our interest here at the Legion.  We're very critical of new shows, and we are hesitant to commit to anything new, because they so often get cancelled after a partial or first season.  Castle is one of those rare shows that pops up and from day one we were on-board.  

Nathan Fillion is a superior actor.  He found minor cult success in other projects like Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  He also had a small stint on Desperate Housewives, but if a show was ever designed as a perfect vehicle to showcase an actor's talents its Castle.   The show sticks to a standard formula for each week's murder investigation with a few running backstories that keep us entertained, not the least of which is the budding romance between Castle and Detective Kate Beckett.   Season two of the show is fantastic, as its really hit a great  stride.   The new season 3 is about to start, now is a great time to pick this one up!  We highly recommend!

Review: The Big Bang Theory is a great sit-com.  It centers around science and comic book nerds as they relate to the world around them through Penny, their hot neighbor and now friend.  I have watched this show here and there over the last few years and every time I tune in its hilarious.  We really should watch it more often!   The show has really hit a comfortable stride now, because you are just so familiar with each character and you almost can anticipate how they are going to react to various situations.

Without a doubt the best moment of season 3 is when the guys dress up with fake tattoo sleeves and go to the goth club to pick up easy girls!  Its hilarious and very typical of the characters.  They get in over their heads....as usual. 

If you enjoy this show, season 3 is no doubt one of your favorites yet and you need to get this DVD.  If you haven't checked it out yet, you don't need the past seasons to get what is going on, so pick this one up today!

This show has a very high production value and fantastic writing.  The costumes, acting and scenery are all fantastic.  You really feel as if you're getting a peek into history!  While the show isn't terribly historically accurate, it is certainly entertaining and gritty.  We highly recommend this series, especially on blu-ray.  It looks amazing in high-definition.

Review: I started in on It's Always Sunny on Philadelphia in the fourth season, so I came in rather late in the series.  Boy, was that a mistake. I  had no idea how hilarious this ensemble cast comedy is.  It can only be described as raw, disturbing and inappropriate.   If you enjoy comedy that pushes the boundries of decency and societal norms, It's Always Sunny is for you!

The fifth season is so strong, maybe the best yet.  The episodes are limited to about 12 or 13 each season to keep the quality high and it works.  This is a MUST own!  Its best on blu-ray, so go pick one up today!

Review: The FOX television show Human Target was based on a comic book series from DC Comics.  When I heard this, there was no way I wasn't going to tune-in!  I think that comic book stories have proved in recent years that they have what it takes to entertain, from Sin City to the Dark Knight and X-Men!  

Human Target is full of great action sequences, fight scenes, snarky line delivery and almost hilarious situations.  Its certainly no comedy, but there are plenty of moments that make you laugh out loud!  Overall its a fantastic show and well worth the watch!

Review: Desperate Housewives can only be described as a cultural phenomenon!  The show has changed the way that we watch television.  The seventh season is about to start and the show is still going strong!

Review: One of the hottest shows on television right now is one that I wouldn't have picked out of a line-up.   Glee is a strange mix of dark humor, drama and music that seems to really appeal to people, so we thought we'd check it out for ourselves with this new blu-ray release of the complete first season.

The show is very well written and the character development is really on the money.  The music didn't start to outweigh the story until the end of the season.  Jane Lynch is definately a stand-out performer on this show, she is wicked and hilarious as always.  Overall, a cool show and now anyone like us that hadn't seen the full season can pick this up and experience the entire thing.  Fans of the show will love the disturbingly HUGE list of extras....

Review: Disney is known throughout the world for their amazing animated features.  In their library you have the classics..the Princess movies and the greats like the Lion King and Toy Story, but there are a few lesser-known and often overlooked films.  One of those is the Black Cauldron.  It is often misunderstood and labeled a failure, when in all honestly its a fantstic movie.

I think what pushed people away from the Black Cauldron was the fact that it does contain a few scenes that are perhaps too scary for very little ones.   I can tell you that watching it as an adult is quite the experience.  Its really fantastic and fanciful and full of life, just what you expect from something with the Disney name on it!

Review: Grey's Anatomy is one of those shows that keeps you tuned-in.  The character-driven show is so dynamic that you can't help but consider them family after awhile.  They truly ilicit an emotional reaction to the story.  You feel for them, you cry for them and you're happy for them.  Its kind of a ridiculously good show.

The sixth season started out a little slow, but damn did it end with a bang (no pun intended).  If you haven't see the finale for this show, I suggest that you stop reading now and just go buy the DVD set, because spoilers will be discussed.

The new season premieres this week and we get to see the aftermath of Derek being shot and Meredith working through that miscarriage. Not to mention the re-kindled romance between Yang and her guy and Karev being shot in the side!  McSteamy wasn't too happy to see Little Grey fawning over Alex, now was he?  Kali and Arizona are going to have 10 kids and they're back together..it just seems to be perfect.  I'm guessing the chief will take back over in Derek's absence too.   This season is a must-own, as are all of the seasons of this show.

Review: The Secret of Moonacre is loosely based on the classic children's book "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge.   There is admittedly a lot of dramatic license taken, so staunch fans of the book beware.  The film is a fantastic and epic fantasy tale that really brings fairly tales to life!  The film includes everything from romance and magic to feuds and deception.

The cast is wonderful, and Tim Curry is as exquisite as ever!  This very british and very true to heart film is a joy for all ages.  There are great lessons to be learned and a fantastical story to enjoy.

The special features on the DVD include: Making-of featurette, deleted scenes, cast/crew interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.

Review: Any film that is sandwiched in by musical tracks from Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie should garner instant attention!  Seven (or Se7en as its known) was a much needed film that really hit audiences at exactly the right time.  It was the mid 1990s and Industrial music had taken over with its darker tone and bands like Nine Inch Nails were on regular radio-play, while Marilyn Manson was just emerging as the next shock rocker.  It was post-grunge and there was a large interest in all things dark, especially serial killers. 

The blu-ray book release of this film is absolutely epic.  The package presentation is beautiful and the accompanying book is fun to flip through.  Its the blu-ray transfer that is the real story here, though.  The color palet on Se7en is rather dark with heavy amounts of shadow and black, but the transfer into high-definition really makes the picture pop!  The gritty details are all there and crystal clear for the first time.  There is a complete lack of grain and noise on the image..its smooth and clean and clear.  This is a beautiful transfer.  This one is a must-own!

Note - be warned..I saw a version of this at wal-mart that did not include the booklet, so be careful what you purchase!

Review: Fringe is without a doubt my favorite show on tv right now.  I kept glued to my seat through season one to find out what the mysteries events were leading up to..who the bald man was and what William Bell was really up to!   Then, at the end of season one we see Olivia cross over to the alternate universe!  It was jaw-dropping!  The anticipation for season two was high and it delivered!

Season Two of Fringe was epic!  We got to see so many details of the alternate universe and learn the answers to some very important questions!   We even had a finale with the crew crossed-over and a huge reveal at the end.   I won't spoil it for those that haven't watched yet and I would advise them to stay offline until they do!  This show is all about the initial surprise.  Then, after that there are so many sneaky things in the episodes that you miss unless you watch them multiple times, you'll want to own all of the seasons.

Season 3 is about to start, so pick up your copy of season two to get caught up or refresh now!  The bonus features alone are worth the price for any Fringe fanatic!
