Review: The Simpsons is the most monumental animated show on television!  I've been watching the characters since the Tracy Ulman show in 1987 and the debut of their own show in 1989.  I was ten years old when I first saw the show, and like most of America, I fell in love!  I'm now turning 31 and the Simpsons shows no signs of slowing down!   How amazing is that?!  To have a show run this long and stay with you through all of the changes in your life is not only comforting, its impressive!

The thirteenth season of the show featured some new creative direction, which is necessary every so often on such a long-running show.  The season featured a total of 22 episodes, and they're as hilarious as ever!  Its a treat to finally be getting seasons in blu-ray high-definition!  The animation really pops!  Its fantastic.  The set includes a ton of extras that are sure to please any hardcore fan!

City Island Blu-Ray Review

City Island Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia) is a lifelong resident of the tiny, tradition-steeped Bronx enclave of City Island. A family man who makes his living as a corrections officer, Vince longs to become an actor. Ashamed to admit his aspirations to his family, Vince would rather let his fiery wife Joyce (Julianna Margulies) believe his weekly poker games are a cover for an extramarital affair than admit he’s secretly taking acting classes in Manhattan. When Vince is asked to reveal his biggest secret in class, he inadvertently sets off a chaotic chain of events that turns his mundane suburban life upside down. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, City Island spins a web of misrepresentations, misinterpretations and misunderstandings into a smart and charming comedy about a family that stops at nothing to avoid the truth.

Review: City Island is a mess!  Its a good movie, but these characters are a mess!  Their lives are full of deceipt and lies and secret desire that eventually comes to the natural conclusion of chaos!   I really enjoyed this one, it shows a disfunctional family dynamic in the modern world.  A man going through what is clearly a mid-life crisis and a woman struggling with finding validation in her older age.

The blu-ray of this film looks great.  Watching anything in high-definition is far superior.  This is a great film to watch anytime.  It has some laughs and great comedic-style drama that is sure to delight.

Flight of the Conchords: The Complete Collection DVD Review

Synopsis: Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie -- a.k.a. Flight of the Conchords -- moved to New York in the hopes of forging a successful music career. Unfortunately, despite their status as "New Zealand’s 4th Most Popular Folk Parody Duo," fame and notoriety continue to elude them. Watch as Bret and Jemaine contend with unrequited love, inept criminals, prostitution, and epileptic dogs, breaking into song as they clumsily try to break into the New York scene.

Review: Flight of the Conchords is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen in America.  The comedy duo of Jemaine and Bret take you through their lives as a New Zealand singing duo trying to make it big in America with the help of their bumbling manager, played by Rhys Darby, they manage to make it about everywhere but the top.

Don't You Forget About Me DVD Review

Don't You Forget About Me DVD Review

Synopsis: How did John Hughes capture the growing pains of adolescence so perfectly? Why do his films resonate with those that grew up with them, and those that have just discovered them? Why did he leave? Armed with those and many other questions, a documentary was put into production. It wasn't long before interviews with Hughes alumni and those influenced by Hughes transpired, shedding light on Hughes and his work. However, after 2 years of compiling hundreds of interviews there was still a very important one missing: John Hughes. DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME cuts insightful and entertaining interviews with the honest, humorous, and tension filled road trip the neophyte filmmakers make to Chicago hoping to secure an interview with the reclusive director and closure for themselves. Interviews with Kevin Smith, Mia Sara, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy and more!

Review: The 80s wouldn't have been what it was without the filmmaking of John Hughes!  Everything from the Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles to Weird Science and Pretty in Pink, some of the best films that came out of that era were thanks to him.  This new documentary touches on how Hughes worked and why he left the entertainment business.
Don't You Forget About Me has interviews with all the major players in the 80s Hughes era, including Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.  We see the filmmakers journey to find Hughes and interview the man himself about why he left.  I found this one very entertaining and nostalgic.  This is a must-own for anyone into 80s films or Hughes' work in general.

    Timer DVD Review

    Timer DVD Review

Synopsis: What if a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate? In this alternate version of present day Los Angeles, a revolutionary device called the TiMER fulfills this fantasy. For a reasonable installation fee and moderate monthly charges, a TiMER implanted in the wrist will accurately display the numbers of days, hours, minutes and seconds until the wearers date with destiny.

Review: This film is a romantic comedy disguised in a sci-fi plot.  It stars the very charming Emma Caulfield in the lead role of a woman that hasn't had good luck with love and is considering whether or not she should use this new technology.   Caulfield really shows her range here and does a fantastic job of endearing herself to the audience right away.  You find yourself actually caring whether she finds true love.

Timer is a great movie to watch with your sweetheart.  Guys will be into the sci-fi concepts and your girl will love the romantic angle.  Its perfect!

Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes DVD Review

Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes DVD Review

Synopsis: Jewel heists around the city of London befuddle Scotland Yard and the beautiful singer Red is framed for the crook. Only the legendary Sherlock Holmes can find the real thief with the help of his assistant Dr. Watson--and of course, Tom and Jerry. But finding clues and cracking the case will be elementary compared to keeping the peace between these raucous rivals as they scamper, scurry, scoot and speed along the streets, alleys and rooftops in the name of justice. Familiar friends Tuffy, Butch, Droopy and many more cleverly round out the motley crew of characters and possible suspects in this brilliant fusion of classic detection and energetic animation!

Review: Who doesn't love Tom and Jerry?!   I myself have a respectable collection of their classic and more modern shows on DVD.  Its always a joy to see familiar characters doing what they do best!  This time around we get a new original movie.

The best way to describe Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes is classic.  It harkens back to an era when your favorite characters would encounter fictional or historic characters for a fun mash-up.  The story is well told and full of fun.

The special feature on this DVD movie is a segment on How to Draw Tom and Jerry.  It was full of great tips and it was fun to watch the characters be drawn by one of the professional animators.

    Hamlet Blu-Ray Book Review

    Hamlet Blu-Ray Book Review

Synopsis: Hamlet has the kind of power, energy and excitement that movies can truly exploit, actor/director Kenneth Branagh says. In this first full-text film of William Shakespeare's play, shot on 65mm film and exhibited in Panavision Super 70, power surges through every scene. The timeless tale of murder, corruption and revenge is reset in a lavish 19th-century world, using sprawling Blenheim Palace as Elsinore and staging mich of the action in mirrored, gold-filled interiors. A landmark cast (Julie Christie, Kate Winslet, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Charlton Heston and more), the excitement of the Bard's words and an energetic filmmaking style lift the story from its often shadowy ambience to fully-lit pageantry and rage.

Review: Hamlet is a classic work by William Shakespeare.  It has been interpreted many times, cincluding a tragic version with Mel Gibson (ewww), but never so well on film as by Kenneth Branagh in this version with Kate Winslet, Robin Williams and more.

What sets this version of Hamlet apart is the high-quality actors chosen and the filmmaking techniques that draw us into this world and really make it real.  We forget that we're watching a Shakespearean play and we feel the drama and the impact of everything happening.

Hamlet looks amazing in high-definition.  It only adds to the majesty and finesse in which Branagh handles this classic tale.  The blu-ray set also comes with a commemorative book about the filming. This is a must-own!

    Interest Range: Shakespeare, Hamlet, Drama

As the series jumps ahead 14 months, these new relationships infuse the history and change the lives of those who live there. Through it all, these friends and family members realize that life always leads you right where you belong.

Review: One Tree Hill is one of the coolest dramas on television.  It has gone on forever, with the eighth season slated already, and the characters still manage to stay interesting.  This new season jumps ahead 14 months into the future and shows us how things are sitting with the gang.  This season really stays true to the feel of the show with a great blend of romance, drama and humor.

    Time Bandits Blu-Ray Review

    Time Bandits Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Young Kevin's daydreams burst into astonishing and hilarious life when a band of time-traveling little men come crashing through his bedroom wardrobe and carry him off on an unbelievable crime spree, weaving through the greatest and strangest moments of history. The pint-sized plunderers filch from a neurotic Napoleon (Ian Holm), a dim-witted Robin Hood (John Cleese) and a heroic King Agamemnon (Sean Connery), leading to a showdown with the dark forces of Evil (David Warner)...all while keeping just one precarious step ahead of the wrath of The Supreme Being himself!Producer/Director/Co-writer Terry Gilliam (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Brazil) teams with many of his comic-genius cohorts from Monty Python to bring this laugh-out-loud modern fairy tale-adventure to life.

Review: This movie is crazy.  Do you know how I know this?  Terry Gilliam directed it, so even before you go into it you know there is some wild stuff going on.  You may recognize Gilliam's name from the legendary Monty Python boys, but don't let that cred fool you into thinking he's a goofball, he's a seriously twisted individual!  Anyone that has seen his feature 'Tideland' knows this first-hand.

Time Bandits is a classic fantasy tale from the 1980s.  Its a great movie for adults and kids, especially if you're a Python fan.  The film features cameos from John Cleese and Michael Palin.  The cast also includes Iam Holm (Lord of the Rings).  The big question here isn't whether Tim Bandits is a good movie...its already established it's place.  The question is how does this new transfer into high-definition blu-ray look?  In a word...shocking.

Honestly, when I see a film from the early to mid-80s is going to blu-ray I sigh loudly.  After all, we all got burned by that terrible release of the original Ghostbusters.   Time Bandits shocks and awes with a FANTASTIC transfer!  You can tell that the film was taken from a master source, and though it has a little static, that really just adds to the feel of the film.  There is no grain to speak of and the picture really pops.  This is a great release and a must-own!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever DVD Review

Synopsis: WHEN THE TURTLES OF THE 1987 ANIMATED SERIES ARE ACCIDENTALLY BROUGHT TO THE WORLD OF THE 2003 SERIES, THE OLD TURTLES MUST ALLY WITH THE NEW TO PREVENT CH'RELL, THE UTROM SHREDDER, WHOSE EVIL PLAN THREATENS THE EXISTENCE OF THE VERY MULTIVERSE ITSELF.

Review: This might be one of the best animated movies of the last ten years!  Its only a TMNT feature, you say?  No!  Its far more than that.  This fantastic DVD is a mash-up of the 1980s TMNT with the way cooler 2003 TMNT series!  A rift in dimensions opens and the old TMNT join up with the new ones and hilarity ensues!

The DVD is full of tongue-in-cheek cracks at the silly atmosphere of the old show and its even addressed as the old Krang and Shredder are treated like idiots and dominated by the Utrom Shredder!  This feature really goes into the TMNT multiverse, even showing us a cool original comic book universe at the end!

Bottom line, this DVD is fun!  If you're a TMNT fan from serious to casual, you need this one!  It was a blast to watch with my own kids, who are also fans of both series.  Nick now has rights to TMNT and I can't wait to see what they give us in the coming years!  This is a nice way to wrap up what was in the past and get us ready for a new incarnation of the gang soon!

Batman: Brave and The Bold Season One, Part One DVD Review

Batman: Brave and The Bold Season One, Part One DVD Review

Synopsis: Batman wings into an exciting new era, teaming with a mighty honor roll of DC Comics Super Heroes in this action-packed series. Through the show's first 13 Animated Adventures in this 2-Disc Collection, the Dark Knight allies with Aquaman, Plastic Man, Blue Beetle, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Wildcat, Deadman, Bronze Tiger and Atom to take on an array of evildoers ranging from mad scientists to intergalactic crooks, from power-mad dictators to out-of-control teenagers. He even travels to a parallel world, becoming the villainous Owlman! In this cool, cutting-edge and often funny series bringing back old-school comic-book styling and dry wit to crimefighting, Batman faces any peril, including other heroes stealing the show, in his relentless pursuit of justice.

Review: The Brave and the Bold is the most recent cartoon to make its mark on the Batman franchise.  The show brings a mixture of humor and nostalgia that appeals to many older fans, while also keeping it interesting for little ones.

The Brave and the Bold is basically a love letter to the silver age of Batman comics.  The character designs and the campy feel really show that the crew on the show have a fanboy agenda to put forth.  They claim that the show is geared towards kids, but it clearly has draws for the adult fan, as well.  The show airs on Cartoon Network, which not everyone can get, so this DVD set may be your first introduction to the show.  Its fun for kids and fans alike.  It has humor and action, but not the serious overtones of say Batman: The Animated Series or even The Batman.

This DVD set includes 13 episodes from the first season of the show.   This is a great start to collecting the complete series, which will end with season 3!

The episodes on this set include: RISE OF THE BLUE BEETLE,TERROR ON DINOSAUR ISLAND,EVIL UNDER THE SEA,INVASION OF THE SECRET SANTAS,DAY OF THE DARK KNIGHT,ENTER THE OUTSIDERS,DAWN OF THE DEAD MAN,FALL OF THE BLUE BEETLE, JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE BAT,EYES OF DESPERO,RETURN OF THE FEARSOME FANGS,DEEP COVER FOR BATMAN,GAME OVER FOR OWLMAN

Review: The Universe series is one of the best out there.    Here, the History Channel does what they do best, making great and informative documentary television!  I learned SO much about the solar system that I didn't know before.

The Universe series mixes historical footage and documentation with modern CGI graphics and theory.  Its without a doubt the most in-depth look at space that I've ever seen.  The high-definition graphics just blew me away!

    Four Seasons Lodge DVD Review

    Four Seasons Lodge DVD Review

Synopsis: From the darkness of Hitler's Europe to the lush mountains of New York's Catskills, FOUR SEASONS LODGE follows a community of Holocaust survivors who come together each summer at their beloved bungalow colony to dance, cook, fight and flirt - and celebrate their survival. Directed by New York Times journalist Andrew Jacobs, with cinematography by the legendary Albert Maysles (Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens), FOUR SEASONS LODGE is an inspiring and surprisingly funny documentary that captures what may be the final season for a remarkable tribe of survivors who have found that dancing, laughter and late-night revelry may be the best revenge on Hitler.

Review: When I began watching Four Seasons Lodge I didn't expect to be terribly entertained.  I figured I'd see a tired and boresome documentary about some WWII survivors.  Instead, what I got was an engaging and honest look into not only the world of the holocaust survivors, but also inside the golden years of life and a special group of people that have more life and spunk than many half their ages!  This documentary is very interesting and relevant, I found it to be a great watch.

While watching these people that have survived through so much in their lives, the problems in your own life might seem to shrink just a bit, because they have embraced life and value it for what it truly is.  A gift.

    Off and Running DVD Review

    Off and Running DVD Review

Synopsis: With white Jewish lesbians for parents and two adopted brothers - one mixed-race and one Korean - Brooklyn teen Avery, a local track star in high school, grew up in a unique and loving household. But Avery's curiosity about her African-American roots compels her to contact her birth mother, thrusting her into a complicated exploration of race and identity that threatens to distance her from her family. But when Avery decides to pick up the pieces of her life and make sense of her identity, the results are inspiring. OFF AND RUNNING follows Avery to the brink of adulthood, exploring the strength of family bonds and the lengths people must go to become themselves.

Review: Off and Running is a film about an African-American girl that was adopted by two Jewish Lesbians into a mixed family in Brooklyn.  Once she is nearing graduation from high-school she really begins to question her roots and heritage, to the point where she eventually drops out and becomes completely confused and uprooted.  This coming of age tale really shows us how fragile the family unit can be, especially if someone within it doesn't truly know themself.  The film is touching, heartbreaking and vulnerable.  Its definately a must-see.

    Temple Grandin DVD Review

    Temple Grandin DVD Review

Synopsis: Based on the writings by its title subject, HBO Films’ Temple Grandin is an engaging portrait of an autistic young woman who became, through timely mentoring and sheer force of will, one of America’s most remarkable success stories.

Review: HBO is infamous for creating great television and original movies.  In the biopic of Temple Grandin we get something that is touching, charasmatic and captivating.  Claire Daines portrays the best selling author and her life-long struggle with Autism.  A widely known, but rarely understood disorder in our country.  Grandin's mother was told that she would never speak or amount to anything in life, but they showed everyone through determination and hard work.  Grandin eventually became quite successful.

The film features Daines in one of her best roles yet, in my opinion.  She plays the autism up just enough without becoming a cartoon.  She treads the line of endearing and disturbed so well that you can't help but feel emotionally connected to her.  The struggle to fit in and the reactions of those around her only add to the emotional depth of the film.   I was truly blown away by this one.

The DVD special features include Commentary by Dr. Temple Grandin, director Mick Jackson, and writer Christopher Monger and The Making of Temple Grandin.

As magical things start to happen, an entirely new world opens up to Michael, who turns to a reluctant Skellig for help when his baby sister takes a turn for the worse. Don't miss this unforgettable story about the power of friendship and family, the beauty of hope and the rapture of learning to fly.

Review: Skellig the Owl Man is a new kids fantasy film that has elements of the Neverending Story.  The magical Owl Man turns up to watch over this boy after his life has essentially fell apart.  Skellig is a reluctant old man living in a shed, when this boy, Michael, shows him kindness, suddenly things start to change.  The film is very emotional and does deal with topics of illness and death.

The blu-ray high-definition looks fantastic.  The sound quality is great and he production value is high.  This is a great quality film that every family should enjoy together.

    Orlando Special Edition DVD Review

    Orlando Special Edition DVD Review

Synopsis: Tilda Swinton, Billy Zane and Quentin Crisp star in this "hip, sexy and wickedly funny" film based on the gender-bending novel by Virginia Woolf. Swinton stars as Orlando, an English nobleman who defies the law of nature with surprising results. Immortal and highly imaginative, he undergoes a series of extraordinary transformations which humorously and hauntingly illustrate the eternal war between the sexes. Visually stunning and beautifully acted, Orlando is an intoxicating blend of romance, adventure and illusion.

Review: This now classic tale from Virginia Woolf is being released in a special edition DVD set!  The tale of a lord that lives life over a 400 year span and even gives himself a sex change to avoid war is masterfully played by the now famous Tilda Swinton.  This film came out originally back in 1992.   Finally, we get a great edition of the light-hearted, but poignant film.

The special features on this new DVD set include: Orlando Goes to Russia, Orlando in Uzbekistan, Jimmy was an Angel, Venice Film Festival Press Conference, An Interview with Sally Potter, Select Scenes, Commentary with Director Sally Potter

    Interest Range: Drama, Romance

    Dorian Gray DVD Review

    Dorian Gray DVD Review

Synopsis: When Dorian Gray arrives in London he immediately falls under the influence of Lord Henry Wotton, leading to a life of increasing debauchery. Dorian soon trades his soul for eternal youth and as his lust for pleasure grows, he resorts to murder to protect his secret. Starring Colin Firth, Ben Barnes and Rachel Hurd-Wood.

Review: The Oscar Wilde tale of Dorian Gray is a classic tale of morality.  This new film is a re-imagining of the tale for us with more...modern sensibilities.   If you're not familiar with the tale, essentially the handsome Gray is painted as he enters society and begins a life of debauchery and hedonism.  The painting gradually gets more and more twisted and ugly to represent his own deeds, until it finally consumes him.

This new version is fantastic!  Its quite graphic and very dark.  Colin Firth steps outside of his usual romantic "good guy" lead to play a significantly more twisted role.  The entire film is a very enjoyable and high-quality telling of this tale.  Definately a wonderful update!

The Last Song Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Review

Synopsis: Miley Cyrus shines as the star of this heartwarming coming-of-age movie that will strike your emotional chords. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks (Dear John, The Notebook), The Last Song follows Ronnie (Cyrus) and her estranged father as he tries to restore the loving relationship they once had. But reconnecting with his rebellious daughter isn’t easy, so he chooses the one thing they still have in common — music. Complete with not-to-be-missed bonus features — the Miley Cyrus music video “When I Look At You,” exclusive interviews with the actress and more — this uplifting and touching drama about family, first loves and second chances is a heartfelt story to you won’t soon forget.

Review: This new film is another romantic tearjerker from Nicholas Sparks, who wrote the Notebook and Dear John.   We see Miley Cyrus in an uncharacteristic role as a down teenager that has issues with her father.  Quite the opposite of Hannah Montana.    The film is actually very enjoyable and well-written, but the end does have some tragedy.  Overall, its a great movie, definately one to watch with your sweetheart.  You could also share it with your teenager, as there is a strong 'coming of age' angle to the story, as well.

    DVD & BD Bonus Features:

Freddie (Christian Cooke) is a salesman suddenly thrown onto the fast track when he gains the attention of his boss, Mr. Kendrick (Ralph Fiennes). Torn between a prior life of partying with his friends (Tom Hughes and Jack Doolan) and the promise of a brighter future, life gets more complicated when the bosses daughter becomes the focus of Freddie’s affection. Also starring Ricky Gervais and Emily Watson.

Review: Ricky Gervais is comedy gold.  Everything he touches I bust a gut laughing at, from his stand-up to the Office to Ghostworld.  Now, it needs to be qualified that in order to enjoy Gervais, and this film that he wrote and directed, you need to "get" british comedy.  This is most definately a british comedy.

This is a great british coming of age film.  It has uncomfortable comedy and some great situations that will leave you wanting more.  I highly recommend this one!!

The Blu-Ray extras include: Commentary with Writers/Directors Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, Cast Commentary with Christian Cooke, Tom Hughes, and Jack Doolan, The Directors: A Conversation with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Lads Look Back: The Stars Discuss Cemetery Junction and Deleted Scenes.

Review: This single-disc release represents the final three episodes of the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series.  The show, regretfully, as been cancelled.  This is DVD wraps it all up with what was a fantastic finale, to say the least.   Its difficult to find well-made super hero cartoons, but this one tops the list.

The Final Crisis Trilogy has the X-Men and other mutants joining together to battle Apocalype and his Four Horsemen.  The series ends with such a great twist that any serious comic fan will love it!  The show is well-made and entertaining, not to mention fun.

This DVD is great, because it does give a nice audio commentary from Craig Kyle, Greg Johnson and Chris Yost!

    Date Night Blu-Ray Review

    Date Night Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: One ordinary couple. One crazy night. The uproarious story of mistaken identity starring two of the world’s biggest comedic talents, Date Night arrives on Blu-ray and DVD August 10 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Filled with non-stop laughs and outrageous situations, Date Night follows Steve Carell (“The Office”) and Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) as a sensible, loving couple with two kids and a house in suburban New Jersey. Their typical date nights include a run-of-the-mill evening with little to no romance, but one night they decide to reignite the spark by going to Manhattan’s hottest new restaurant… without a reservation. What happens next is a wild ride that goes hilariously awry, as they embark on a dangerous series of crazy adventures to save their lives, and their marriage.

Review: Date Night is a new comedy featuring Steve Carrell from the Office and Tina Fey from SNL and 30 Rock as a typical suburban married couple that needs to get away.  Their lives are just too hectic and wrapped up in their family routine and they need a romantic night away.  Carell decides to surprise his wife and get into a fancy restaurant without a reservation.  Of course this doesn't happen and they steal someone else's reservation.  From there the film takes off as a case of mistaken identity.

This film was absolutely hilarious.  It was fun, cute and a great watch.  I enjoyed the performances by all and the great cameos!  The film looks great in blu-ray high definition and comes with a digital copy for your iPod, as well!  This great extended edition has a ton of extra footage and extras.  The movie reminds me of one of those crazy 80s movies like Adventures in Babysitting.  Definately a must-own!

History Channel: Instant Expert - BEOWULF

History Channel: Instant Expert - BEOWULF

Synopsis: HISTORY introduces INSTANT EXPERT, an exciting new line of titles offering on-the-spot knowledge to students and lifelong learners on a wide variety of topics.

Myths are often the first stories we learn as children--iconic tales where good and evil clash, and humanity and fantasy collide. Thousands of years ago, myths were created to help frame the world of the ancients, and dictate the guidelines of their societies. But could these mythological warriors--and the tales they inspired--have been real? The legend of Beowulf, the Viking world s most famous warrior, is the ultimate tale of courage. Pit against thirsty invaders, barbaric monsters, and a fire-breathing dragon, Beowulf emerged as Norse mythology's greatest hero. HISTORY explores this epic legend, including unearthed burial mounds and ancient carvings that suggest the story of Beowulf could be more than myth.

Review: Whenever the History Channel puts out a DVD release we stand-up and take notice here at the Legion!  The channel is just full of quality documentary programming.  Their new line of DVDs, the Instant Expert series, is a whole new platform to release documentary programming on just about any subject!

The one we're going to focus on right now is the legend of BEOWULF.  I'm ashamed to say that prior to watching this special I had no real idea what BEOWULF was.  I had heard of it, of course, but I really had never read about or researched it.  It turns out that BEOWULF is the oldest tale written in the English language.  Its a tale of monsters, heroes and blood.  It really turns out to be quite fascinating.  Especially since a lot of the places and events in BEOWULF actually do coincide with real-life!

These DVDs are PERFECT for classrooms and homeschooling!   The DVDs even include a quiz afterwards that you can take to test your retention!  I know that I'll be using them for my kids and myself, to brush up on all types of topics from mythology to oil and historical characters.  I just found my new favorite DVD series!

BONUS FEATURES: Interactive Quiz, Study Guide Featuring Discussion Questions, Activities and more!

Cougar Town: The Complete First Season DVD Review

Cougar Town: The Complete First Season DVD Review

Synopsis: Here's your chance to bring home the hottest single mom in town! Golden Globe nominee* Courteney Cox (Friends) stars in the hilariously sexy hit comedy Cougar Town: The Complete First Season.

After spending the last seventeen years as a wife and mother, recently divorced Jules (Cox) has reluctantly waded back into the dating pool and quickly finds herself in over her head. Now forty-something and single, Jules tackles real-life issues - dating, parenting and friendship. It doesn't help Jules that her two best friends can hardly stand each other, her ex-husband is hanging around more now than he did during their marriage...and there's that handsome divorced neighbor that Jules can't quite get out of her head.

Created by Kevin Biegel and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Cougar Town is packed with laugh-out-loud moments and features a cast of television's brightest comedic stars. Cougar Town: The Complete First Season struts its stuff in this DVD collection, along with exclusive bonus features and one or two special surprises. Cougar Town - it's more than a place, it's a state of mind.

Review: Bill Lawrence created the now classic comedy show 'Scrubs'.  Scrubs sadly ended last year, but Lawrence's comedy lives on in the new show 'Cougar Town'.  If you haven't seen Cougar Town yet, you're really missing out.  The show starts FRIENDS alum Courtney Cox as an aging divorcee that is coming to grips with her age and her single life.  She is joined by her friend, Scrubs alum Christa Miller (who also happens to be Bill Lawrence's real-life wife) as her inappropriate neighbor and best friend.

Cougar Town is hands-down hilarious.  The show is almost non-stop laughs and over the top humor, much the same way Scrubs was in it's prime.  Lawrence has knocked it out of the park again.  This one is worth buying to experience, and if you are already a fan of the show, this DVD set will definately satisfy.  It includes some great extras...

The extras include a few features, deleted scenes and a very funny "Ask Barb" feature!  Barb is the hilarious breakout side character on the show.  She is a real estate agent that is always being creepy and overly sexual.   Not a bad bunch of extras for a first season television show!

Interest Range: Comedy, Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, Courtney Cox
