Dorian Gray DVD Review

Dorian Gray DVD Review

Synopsis: When Dorian Gray arrives in London he immediately falls under the influence of Lord Henry Wotton, leading to a life of increasing debauchery. Dorian soon trades his soul for eternal youth and as his lust for pleasure grows, he resorts to murder to protect his secret. Starring Colin Firth, Ben Barnes and Rachel Hurd-Wood.

Review: The Oscar Wilde tale of Dorian Gray is a classic tale of morality.  This new film is a re-imagining of the tale for us with more...modern sensibilities.   If you're not familiar with the tale, essentially the handsome Gray is painted as he enters society and begins a life of debauchery and hedonism.  The painting gradually gets more and more twisted and ugly to represent his own deeds, until it finally consumes him.

This new version is fantastic!  Its quite graphic and very dark.  Colin Firth steps outside of his usual romantic "good guy" lead to play a significantly more twisted role.  The entire film is a very enjoyable and high-quality telling of this tale.  Definately a wonderful update!

Interest Range: Drama
