Review: We hadn't heard of this one before it arrived at our doorstep, but Sinners and Saints is one of the coolest action movies we've seen in awhile.  The basic story here is about a cop hunting down a brutal killer that may be one of his childhood friends!  What is remarkable about this film is the absolute thrilling action and violence involved in the journey as more and more layers get piled on this low budget action flick.  This one is definately fun and we highly recommend checking it out.

Review: The History Channel is known for releasing some of the best documentaries out there and this set on King Arthur is no exception!  The DVD set is a collection of various documentaries and episodes from Ancient Mysteries that all focus on King Arthur and Camelot!  This is a fantastic collection and a great way to have focused material on such an important historical subject.  We absolutely love this one!

Review: Every so often a drama comes along that surprises us.  There Be Dragons is without a doubt that movie!  The basic tale is two friends during the Spanish Civil War, but its told through flashbacks as a relative of theirs digs into the past when one of them is proposed for sainthood in the 1970s.  This one is bloody, dramatic and complex.  We recommend this one if you are looking for a unique watch.

Synopsis: Everyone's favorite cat is at it again!  Join this larger than life feline and his animal friends as they embark on a series of adventures from digging up dinosaur bones, working with farm animals and discovering life under the sea.  No stone is left unturned as Garfield takes us through the history of dogs, attends a pet show and even prepares to eat a pet goldfish!  Being part of the animal kingdom has never been any more exciting!

Review: Garfield has been bringing joy to kids for decades.  This latest incarnation of the Garfield cartoon is the CGI animation Garfield Show.  The show has all the best elements of the characters we know and love.  Unfortuntely, the late Lorenzo Music cannot reprise his famous role, but the new voice actor does a nice job.  This DVD is great for kids ages 2-8 and was a fun watch. 

Synopsis: Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut, Higher Ground, depicts the landscape of a tight-knit spiritual community thrown off-kilter when one of their own begins to question her faith. Inspired by Carolyn S. Briggs’ memoir, “This Dark World” , the film tells the story of a thoughtful woman’s struggles with belief, love and trust. A woman who learns that no matter how many times she loses her footing, she has within herself all that’s necessary to get to a higher place.

Review: Higher Ground is like no faith-based film I've ever seen.   This film centers around a woman looking beyond the confines of her church to understand and seek answers about her religion.  The film doesn't act as either a satire or a puff piece, but rather a very realistic idea of a fundamentalist Christian that questions many aspects of what she is taught.  The film is thought provoking and interesting, even for an atheist, such as myself.  Having been born into a very fundamentalist Christian family, my journey took me away from the religion, so a lot of what the main character here questions I can completely relate with, as well as her struggle to connect the dots between Christianity and its followers.  We definately recommend this one.

Review: Diary of a Single Mom is the tale of Ocean, a single mother facing new life challenges, as she moves her kids into an apartment building full of ...interesting..characters that she is tasked with managing.  This one is a great modern day family film about the challenges of single parenting.  Its inspirational and quite well done.  We definately recommend.

Synopsis: Anna Faris and Chris Evans star in the outrageously funny comedy that asks: can 19 wrongs make Mr. Right? When Ally Darling (Faris) reads an article that leads her to believe she's going to be alone forever, she begins a wild search to find the best "ex" of her life. But Ally's quest to reconnect with her former lovers goes hilariously awry, from a puppeteer who's more wooden than his puppet to a gynecologist with a "spotty" memory. Through it all, Ally might just find the man of her dreams in the last place she ever expected.

Review: What's Your Number is a hilarious romantic-themed comedy.    The acting is right on with the great and underrated Anna Faris in the lead and support by Captain America star Chris Evans.  Evans isn't too great on the acting, but Faris makes up for it in spades.  This one delivers consistant laughs and cheese and would make a great film to enjoy curled up with your sweetie.  This is one that everyone can enjoy.

Synopsis: A weekend at a lake house in the louisiana gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to shark attacks

Review: We rather enjoy cheese horror flicks.  In fact, its the only kind we really DO enjoy much.  Shark Night is the epitome of cheese.  Its, of course, mostly intended that way and it was a ton of fun in the theater as a 3D flick.  In fact, the best moments were the 3D.  Unfortunately, the studio released it only as 2D blu-ray!?  I have no idea why it wasn't put out in 3D..thats really the draw.  A fun movie, but a questionable release.

Review: I don't think that any parent needs an introduction to Barney!   Whether you watched it as a kid or had siblings that did, most everyone knows that lovable purple dinosaur and his friends.  This new DVD is nearly an hour of good-natured, safe and educational fun for kids, as Barney and friends teach life lessons about friendship and sharing feelings.  This one is a must-have for any parent and their kids!

Review: This fantastic and charming kids DVD features two Angelina Ballerina tales.  These cartoons teach fantastic life lessons for your little ones, like the importance of helping out a friend!   In an age where what is fed to our kids on TV is questionable at best, DVDs like this are a must-have for any responsible parent!  This one is sweet, charming and lovable.  A perfect Valentine's Day gift!

Synopsis: Sally, a young girl, moves to Rhode Island to live with her father and his new girlfriend in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the house, Sally starts to hear voices coming from creatures in the basement whose hidden agenda is to claim her as one of their own.

Review: This re-make of an older campier made for TV movie is a huge leap from the original.   The influence of Guillermo Del Toro is obvious in this thriller both in tone and tale.  The story of a displaced family moving into a cursed home is moody, dark and chilling.  Katie Holmes actually stands out with a fantastic performance, which isn't typical for her!  It was quite impressive.  The creeply impish creatures trapped in the fireplace are back to mischief and this one is sure to give chills!

Review: GI Joe was one of the coolest cartoons of the 1980s, and one of the only ones that has held up in quality.  The original Sunbow produced series aired from 1985-86 to great acclaim.  Later on, D.I.C. bid in at a lower cost for Hasbro to bring the Joes back for the 1990s!  This second series of GI Joe aired from 1989-92. 

Its said that the animation quality isn't up to snuff with the Sunbow series, but honestly I don't find that bothersome.  The stories are a little more geared towards a 1990s crowd and the selling of toy product, but again that doesn't bother me...I LOVE this series.   This is the cartoon that got me excited about GI Joe again in the early 1990s. 

The returning cast members from the 1986 series include Cobra Commander and the Baroness,  while other fan favorites like Destro were re-cast.   There were a number of changes to make the series stand out from the original, such as the gold color of Destro's mask, Cobra Commander's new silver uniform and the focus on more obscure characters. 

This DVD set starts with the Operation Dragonfire miniseries that re-launched the show and includes the rest of season one!  This DVD set from Shout! Factory has fantastic video quality and is a must-have for any fan of GI Joe!

Review: If you haven't seen Sid and Nancy, then you're missing out.  Before Kurt and Courtney, the royalty of punk rock were Sid Vicious and his American girlfriend Nancy Spungen.  Their brash and difficult, but passionate relationship was chronicled in this cult classic film from the 1980s.  The Sex Pistols were the biggest names in punk and this couple, destined for tragedy, are glorified in this jacked-up film.  This is the first opportunity to have the film in high-definition and it looks fantastic.  The color really pops and its great to see one of the best cult films of the 80s polished-up.  We definately recommend.

Synopsis: Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Munn and Christina Hendricks star in I Don't Know How She Does It, a comedy from director Douglas McGrath (Emma, Infamous) and producer Donna Gigliotti (The Reader, Let Me In). Based on the critically acclaimed bestseller by Allison Pearson, I Don't Know How She Does It follows a Boston-based working mother trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job.

Kate Reddy (Parker) devotes her days to her job with a Boston-based financial management firm. At night she goes home to her adoring, recently-downsized architect husband Richard (Kinnear) and their two young children. It's a non-stop balancing act, the same one that Kate's acerbic best friend and fellow working mother Allison (Christina Hendricks) performs on a daily basis, and that Kate's super-brainy, child-phobic young junior associate Momo (Olivia Munn) fully intends to avoid. When Kate gets handed a major new account that will require frequent trips to New York, Richard also wins the new job he's been hoping for and both will be spreading themselves even thinner. Complicating matters is Kate's charming new business associate Jack Abelhammer (Brosnan), who begins to prove an unexpected source of temptation.

Review: The gender roles are finally reversed as Sarah Jessica Parker plays the mother/wife that is working too hard and neglecting her family.   This film includes a stellar cast in her, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan and Christina Hendricks!  Also, relative newcomer Olivia Munn does a nice job.  The comedy/drama centers around the complications of modern family life, complete with neglect of the kids and husband and the temptations of infidelity.  This ends up being a nice reality check, but with a good Hollywood ending.  A charming film, albeit predictable.

Synopsis: The Guard is a comedic, fish out of water tale of murder, blackmail, drug trafficking, and rural police corruption. Two cops (Gleeson and Cheadle) one an unorthodox Irish policeman and the other, a straitlaced FBI agent, must join forces to take on an international drug-smuggling gang.

Review: The Guard is an atypical buddy flick that centers around a gruff cop and a straight-laced FBI agent working together to stop a drug shipment.   This one is half billed as a comedy, but its really not so much on the funny.  Its a good movie and the crime drama is there and of course the contrast in personalities is amusing, but there aren't much for laughs.  Don Cheadle is an amazing actor and always worth a watch, so we do recommend the Guard.

Review: Justified is one of those shows that I was apt to not even try, but I broke down eventually after enough snazzy ads and I was pleasantly surprised.  This cop drama started out a little slow, but has really picked up with the second season.  The Marshal has to face some much bigger crimainal fish than before and the pressure shows!  This one has really become a must-see show, making this second season DVD release an absolute must-have for any TV fan.

Review: We love Sesame Street here at the Legion.  Elmo is without a doubt the single most important character in children's programming...perhaps ever.  This cool new DVD cashes in on the recent coolness factor of superheros and comic books with some themed skits.   This one is an absolute funfest for any kid.

Synopsis: From Disney and Producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes all the fun, epic adventure and humor that ignited the original. Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. A tale of truth, betrayal, youth, demise - and mermaids! When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he's not sure if it's love, or if she's a ruthless con artist using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Forced aboard the ship of the most feared pirate ever, Jack doesn't know who to fear more -Blackbeard (Ian McShane) or the woman from his past. Directed by Rob Marshall, it's filled with eye-popping battle scenes, mystery and all-out wit.

Review: The Pirates franchise is one that took me by surprise.  When the first film came out I fully admit that I expected it to be terrible.   The concept sounded silly to me from the word go and I just didn't see how they could make Pirates relevant.  Boy, did I eat my words.  The first two films were absolutely amazing and the third fell a little short for me.   I had high hopes for this 4th installment and prequel to the series and again my expectations were not only met, but far exceeded.  This one is all-out action, humor and amazing fun!  Its a popcorn eating, summer movie that will appeal to any and everyone.  This time around they are dealing with Blackbeard and a beautiful woman that may or may not be his daughter.  Jack Sparrow is Jack..the crew is there on the Pearl and even Barbossa is still there as first mate!

The 3D blu-ray looks amazing!  Its wonderful to finally see the Pirates franchise in 3D.  There is no ghosting and the amount of 3D moments is really amped up from a lot of other recent 3D features that just don't live up to the hype.  Even at home, this one is worth having in 3D.

Synopsis: Dolph Lundgren stars as a modern-day warrior who travels back through time in this action-packed follow-up to the original In The Name Of The King. Granger (Lundgren), a lethal, ex-Special Forces soldier, finds himself transported back to a mystical age of sorcery, dragons and savage hand-to-hand combat. But as he fights his way to the truth, Granger learns no one can be trusted -- and one wrong move could cost him not only his life, but the future of his world.

Review: This action-fantasy sequel is a follow-up to the original film, starring Jason Statham.  This time around, the warrior is played by Dolph....thats right, DOLPH!  I grew up watching Dolph is terrible movie after terrible movie..and I loved every moment of it.  After his appearance in the Expendables he's on fire!   This film was shot on a meager 7 million dollar budget, which may explain some of the production issues, but honestly for a direct to home video sequel, this one was pretty fun.  If you're looking for a nice escape for a few hours, give Dolph a chance!

Review: Any fan of Archer knows the high level of comedic writing that goes into the show.  If you haven't seen Archer, then you're missing out, especially if you love adult animated shows.  The writing and character development has really gone up a notch in season two, which is rare.  This season we get a lot more large-scale episodes and some more variety in the humor.  Archer is one of the funniest shows on TV and any fan will be more than pleased with this blu-ray release.  If you're new to the show, we recommend picking up both seasons immediately!

Synopsis: A group of 30-year-olds who have been friends since high school attempt to throw an end-of-summer orgy

Review: This new Unrated DVD makes big promises with the ironic title and very decent cast.  The comedic centerpieces is a group of friends that decide to have an orgy...yep thats all.  Its a decent movie and it does have some laughs, but I feel that it could've been executed a bit better.  That being said, this one is still worth the watch and may appeal to those looking for a more low-key comedy.

Synopsis: Created, written by, and starring David Cross (Arrested Development, Mr. Show), THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARET follows the awkward misadventures of an American office temp and convenient liar named Todd Margaret (David Cross).  Margaret bluffs his way into a senior sales position heading up the London office for the new energy drink Thunder Muscle. 

Cross' out-of-control farce reaches epic proportions when his character's gaffes and misfortunes wreak havoc on the city of London. His antics are often fueled by Dave, played by Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners), his mysteriously devious and sometimes useless assistant.  Complicating matters is Todd's misplaced attempts to win the affection of Alice, played by Sharon Horgan (Pulling), his uninterested UK love interest. The series also features guest stars Will Arnett (Up All Night, Arrested Development, Running Wilde) as Todd's hard-ass, foul-mouthed boss, and Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) as Todd's American "girlfriend." Janeane Garofalo(24, Reality Bites) and Russ Tamblyn (West Side Story, Peyton Place) make special appearances.

Review:There are a lot of comedy shows out there, but none so off the wall as Todd Margaret!  This one has a few comedic powerhouses together for a manic, uncomfortable and bizarre six episode series.    This one starts out a little slow, but stick with it, there is a huge payoff with this underground cult show.  It aired on IFC, 'nuff said.  If you like unconventional laughs, you'll be all over this one.

Synopsis: Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and in Final Destination 5 it strikes again. Review: The Final Destination film franchise has been going strong for years.  This series of suspense-horror films about young people that cannot avoid the hand of fate and cheat death has captured audiences for four films...now, we et the fifth installment on blu-ray!   This one is more of the same great creative death scenes as fate rounds up the survivors of a bridge collapse.  Any fan of the series will love this one too!

What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

Review: Apollo 18 is a film in the veign of the Blair Witch Project, in that its found footage.  The film basically runs like a real-life account of what happened with vintage looking footage and secret film about a trip to the moon and the aliens they encounter.  This one starts out strong and wavers a little at the end, but its still a great watch.

Review: We were familiar with Centurions through the 1980s toyline, but the cartoon never aired in our area...at least not that I ever noticed, so I was excited to check out this miniseries.  The show went on to have two seasons, a total of 65 episodes, and hopefully we'll see the Warner Archive release this full series eventually.  I was overjoyed to be introduced to Max, Jake and Ace and their great mech suits.  The show is well-written and has great animation and a tone that is ideal mid-1980s.  The video looks fantastic, great quality, and the sound is good.  This one is a must-have for any Centurions fan and it can only be found at wbshop.com!
