An Idiot Abroad DVD Review

Synopsis: In this hilarious series Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, co-creators of The Office and Extras, send their friend Karl Pilkington (The Ricky Gervais Show) around the world...against his will! Karl thinks he’s visiting the "Seven Wonders" but along the way the “Little Englander” must endure camel rides, jungle treks, tribal customs and local oddballs while dining on toads and testicles... and searching for a clean bathroom. How does a man who prefers vacationing via camper cope with being an idiot abroad?

Review: Everyone knows someone that is a complete idiot..but none are quite so funny as the dopey, but lovable pal of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant...Karl Pilkington!  Ricky and Stephen are, of course, the gents responsible for the Office TV show, amongst other things.  This time around, they are sending Karl to see the seven wonders of the world, so that he experience other cultures and perhaps broaden his little mind.  The great bit is that they get him in tons of situations that are culturally bizarre to him, so his extreme reactions are priceless.  He rides bulls, eats the tequila work and runs from bees in Mexico...he gets painted in colored powders in India..he has to stay the night in a cave and ride a camel through the desert for eight hours in Jordan. There are other highlights, like watching Karl mock the Peruvian tribeschildren for not being able to figure out his travel edition of Connect Four.  We cannot say enough good things about this show, its an absolute blast!

This DVD set includes the entire first season of the show, as a second season has already aired overseas and is underway here in America.  There are seven episodes, one for each wonder of the world, and one recap episode with Ricky, Stephen and Karl and a ton of unseen footage!  Ths one is an absolute must-have!

Interest Range: Travel, Comedy
