Burbank, Calif. December 16, 2009 - Warner Bros. Home Entertainment today announced two Blu-ray(TM) packaging initiatives that will give consumers greater value and portability when shopping for the best possible way to watch movies at home. Beginning in the first quarter of 2010, Warner Home Video will be releasing its entire Theatrical New Release slate as Blu-ray combo packs, containing a Blu-ray Disc of the film with exclusive special features and exciting BD-Live interactivity, a standard-definition DVD and a Digital Copy of the film.  For no additional cost, Blu-ray combo packs offer consumers significantly more value by merging the unsurpassed quality of Blu-ray with the convenience of being able to watch the film in any format, on just about every playback device.

Warner Home Video is also launching the industry’s first line of Blu-ray Double Features, priced at $24.98 (SRP). Beginning February 23, the attractively packaged and entry-level priced Blu-ray Double Features pack will include a pair of well-matched catalog hits spanning multiple genres – comedy, action, drama/thriller and horror.  The first wave will include “Dirty Harry” and “Magnum Force” starring Clint Eastwood; “Analyze This” and “Analyze That” starring Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro; “Presumed Innocent” and “Frantic” starring Harrison Ford; “Miss Congeniality” and “Miss Congeniality 2” starring Sandra Bullock; and Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.

“When people experience Blu-ray – they love it, and with Blu-ray combo packs on all of our top new releases, we are giving consumers the titles they want without having to sacrifice convenience and portability,” said Ron Sanders, President, Warner Home Video. “And our new Blu-ray Double Feature sets make it easier and more affordable than ever for consumers to build or expand their home movie libraries and discover why Blu-ray is simply the best way to watch movies at home.”

Blu-ray devices are at the top of many consumers’ holiday wish lists this year are projected to be in 15 million U.S. homes by the end of this year.

Review: One of the nice things about the Xmas season is the influx of great kids DVD releases. All year its pretty slim pickings, but around the holidays all these great specials and movies come out and I can finally sit down with the kids and watch something decent. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Santa Buddies. My kids are fans of the Buddies franchise (Air Buddies, Snow Buddies and Space Buddies) and I was vaguely familiar with the premise, but I hadn’t sat through an entire film yet.

This film is another in the series of Disney dog “Buddies” movies, and it falls well into the franchise. Since watching this one, the kids made me catch up on the other films. Finally the kids get a Xmas film featuring the adorable little dogs parents everywhere have come to love. Why do we love them? Our kids love them. Bottom line…kids love these movies and parents can be comfortable letting their children of all ages enjoy this film.

The blu-ray looks fantastic and crisp. It provides a nice viewing experience. What we do in our house is let the kids take the DVD and watch it and we keep the blu-ray in nice shape for future use. It’s a fantastic deal in this 2-disc combo pack, and definitely something to get this holiday. It’d make a great Xmas or even pre-Xmas gift.

Kevin Smith Blu-Ray Box Set Review!

Kevin Smith Blu-Ray Box Set Review!

You can purchase this blu-ray box set online today!

Synopsis: CLERKS is one wild day in the life of a pair of overworked counter jockeys whose razor-sharp wit and on-the-job antics give a whole new meaning to customer service.

CHASING AMY: Filled with Smith's unique ear for dialogue and insight into relationships, CHASING AMY offers a thoughtful, funny look at how perceptions alter lives, and how obsession and self-doubt skew reality.

JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK: Wildly irreverent and packed with stars, including Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Jason Lee and more, the hilarious conclusion of Jay and Silent Bob's story is big entertainment.

Review: Miramax hasn't released much from Kevin Smith on blu-ray as of yet. This new box set is a fantastic way to get started. It includes the hits Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Clerks is, of course, a cult classic and definately a magnum opus for Kevin Smith's career. It perfectly represents a 1990s indie mentality. To see it in high definition is cool. Its a film completely done in black and white, so it honestly doesn't add a lot, but its a must-have in your upgrade collection.
Chasing Amy is probably my least favorite of the Kevin Smith films. Its not that its a terrible film, it just doesn't hold the same great characterization and humor that the others do. It was an experiment and in my opinion it failed. It does look good in high-definition, though.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was a spoof to begin with. It was meant to be silly, and silly it is Its really a funny film if you can let go and be absolutely goofy. If not, its probably not for you. The 1080p high-definition transfer came out great. Its fun to watch it again in high-def.
I personally would've rather seen a set like Clerks, Mallrats and Clerks 2, but you know they just don't consult me enough about these matters, lol. Regardless, its a great set with three solid films to get your high definition blu-ray library bulked up with Kevin Smith goodness.
The blu-rays for Clerks and Chasing Amy do include a few extras that their DVD counterparts did not. The list is as follows:

Bruno Blu-Ray Review!

Bruno Blu-Ray Review!

You can purchase this blu-ray online today

Synopsis: Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Da Ali G Show and Talladega Nights) brings you the comedy that has started more conversations, generated more controversy and dared to go further than ever before! As brĂ¼no travels the world in search of fame, everyone he encounters — celebrities, politicians, Hasidic Jews, terrorists and cage fighters — becomes a stepping-stone to stardom, with hilarious results! So prepare yourself for nonstop laughs in the film Peter Travers of Rolling Stone says should be “Numero uno on your funny-time list!”

Review: I think when Borat came out a lot of people hadn’t yet heard of Sacha Baron Cohen. I had seen Da Ali G show and was well aware of not only Ali G, but also Bruno and Borat from the show. When Borat became a cultural phenominon, I think there was a feeling that Sacha Baron Cohen was a one-hit wonder of sorts. That Borat was his thing, but thats about all he has to offer. Definately not the case. There was a lot of anticipation for Bruno from audiences and the reviews were mixed…

When I sat down to watch this blu-ray, I hadn’t yet seen the film. Its not that I didn’t want to, I just don’t get to the theater that often. Almost immediately I could see that Bruno was going to follow the same basic template as Borat. He brings you into the character’s world as an eccentric foreigner and then along for the journey as he travels to America to make people uncomfortable. Mind you its a good template, so okay. It didn’t take long to confirm my suspicions as to why a lot of the public didn’t care for this film…you see full frontal nudity on Cohen and there is an extreme amount of gay situations. Duh. I mean seriously..this is the guy that did Borat and now he’s playing a gay fashion model…what do you think is going to happen? I must say it was hilarious. ..especially the last oh, 45 minutes or so. The film is worth watching through to the end.

The blu-ray was a fantastic way to experience the film. The great sound and crisp high-definition picture are always a treat. I mean how else are you going to see Sacha Baron Cohen’s penis? A quick warning to parents, I know a lot of people felt it was ok to let their 9 or 10 year olds watch Borat..but I might watch Bruno yourself first to make sure that the sexual situations aren’t too much.

Review: I’m always into a good kids movie. I have three little ones myself, so I seek out anything I can possibly stand to watch!

One of the things that struck me about the film was the physical nature of the acting. I didn’t expect the movie to be quite as funny as it actually is. I was also concerned about the quality of the CGI in the film. I felt that perhaps that aliens might look fake, but the special effects were fantastic and I honestly forgot after a time that they weren’t real. The characterization involved in the aliens is outstanding.

Is this a movie you'd watch without your kids? Probably not, unless you're a bit immature, but since they're watching it anyway, its one you can tune in for. Much like Night at the Museum or Ice Age. Its something the parents can get some laughs out of, as well. I'm always excited as a parent when any decent kids movie hits the market, and Aliens in the Attic is most definately that.

You’ve got to get this one on blu-ray. We say it time and time again, this is the new media. It offers a high definition picture, optimized sound and a good price. Why would you not invest in the blu-ray of any film you care enough about to buy. DVDs are the laserdisc of tomorrow when it comes to new film. I would buy old film on DVD and all new releases on Blu-Ray for sure.

The Negotiator Blu-Ray Review

The Negotiator Blu-Ray Review

You can purchase this blu-ray disc today!

Synopsis: Maverick hostage negotiator Danny Roman (Samuel L. Jackson) is framed for embezzlement and murder. Just married and unjustly faced with prison, Roman turns hostage-taker to smoke out the guilty ones. Squaring off against him is respected, methodical negotiator Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey). F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job, Be Cool) directs a top ensemble cast (including David Morse and J.J. Walsh) in a story honed with spiraling tension and volatile action – and unfolding via a dazzling series of twists and gambits.

Review: I remember when the Negotiator came out 11 years ago. It was a time when Kevin Spacey wasn’t quite as established in off-color films. Its a rare chance to see him do a rather conventional action-suspense film. We’re big fans of Spacey around the DVD Legion offices, so we were anxious to see this film in high-definition.

The film is basically a mystery thriller the first time you watch it. Samuel L. Jackson is hoping that Kevin Spacey can help him figure out who in his department is framing him before its too late. The film has a great script, its well-paced and full of great edits. It keeps you on the edge of your seat most of the time. Even after subsequent viewings and knowing the mystery, its still fun to watch.

The blu-ray transfer is fantastic. Its quite clear and crisp, no noticable scratches or dust. I didn’t really even notice any soft spots in the film. Special Features on the blu-ray include: The 11th Hour: Stories from Real Negotiators Featurette, On Location Making-Of Featurette and Original Theatrical Trailer.

We highly recommend this film to anyone that is into action, suspsense or thriller mysteries. Its a great ride!
