Synopsis: Champion competitive marksman Ken comes across an armored van robbery. He sees a policeman held hostage and shoots and kills four of the robbers. One of the robbers escapes and the policeman survives. The case is handled by Jerry Chang, whom Ken knows from having recently beaten him in a shooting match. Ken is found not guilty in court. Soon after, Ken is attacked by the escaped robber Pang Tao. Their confrontation reveals a very different background story and brings about a myriad of lies and traps and changes in relationships as Jerry and Ken try to outsmart each other.

Review: Triple Tap is a Chinese import film.  We don't watch a lot of foreign film here at the Legion, but this one really caught our eye.  The characters are great and the story is FULL of twists.  You think you're watching one movie about a heroic act and suddently you're thrust into intrigue, suspense and suspicion.  This one is a great watch and has plenty of action and drama.

Review: We love documentaries here at the Legion.  This new documentary, Arabia, is a fantastic look at this magical world.  I knew almost nothing about the area until this documentary and I found it to be astoundingly beautiful and rich in culture.  The only downside to this release is that the majority of the documentary isn't actually in 3D, just a small part.  That didn't really bother me personally, but you should know that going in!  This one is a great watch and we definately recommend.

Review: The Help was a moving novel and its certainly a dramatic and moving feature film.  The aim of the movie is truly geared towards a female audience, but thats not a bad thing by any means for guys.  The film is centered around race relations in the 1960s and it delves into several characters from the help's point of view.  The film is touching, funny and a joy to watch.  Men and women can both easily enjoy this one and its a great moment in time that shouldn't be forgotten.

Review: I was familiar with Captain Power growing up, but only the toyline.  I actually had no idea that there was a live-action television show that ran in some Canadian and American markets!  This DVD is the full series release of the rather obsure (to me at least) Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future TV show!  I was absolutely blown away by this one.  It gave me so much more fun depth to the toys.  I found myself really wishing that I'd seen it back when I was young, I would've gone crazy over it.  The characters are great, the costumes are super-cool and the effects are fun. This is an absolute great cult hit and I'm psyched that is on DVD!  We highly recommend this one.

Review: There are few children's characters as lovable as Thomas the Train and friends.  This new DVD set collects six previously released DVDs.  This set is priced right, you can find it for between $21-$25 pretty easily.  Your little ones will love Thomas and his friends while they learn lessons and have great adventures.  This big collection is almost six hours of enjoyment that would make a phenominal Xmas gift for any kid on your list!  We highly recommend.

Synopsis: Although the Cartoon Network's nostalgic animated comedy series THE LOONEY TUNES SHOW offered a series of 7-minute shorts at the outset of Season One, it quickly shifted gears by incorporating longer segments. The extended version of the program stars Bugs and Daffy as ordinary suburbanites, living adjacent to such familiar characters as Granny, Tweety, Sylvester and Yosemite Sam. In addition to following the characters' day-to-day adventures, the series incorporates "cartoons within a cartoon" - a number of two-minute music videos with the classic title 'Merrie Melodies.' This particular box set constitutes the second volume of episodes from Season One.

Review: There isn't much to say here.  Do you love Looney Tunes like we do?  Of course you do!  Don't be daft...or daffy for that matter.  The Looney Tunes Show is Cartoon Network's answer to the modern day show.  Its a great watch and this volume is the second release of 4 episodes for fans to collect.  This one is a no-brainer must-have!

Review: This DVD release represents the five-part miniseries that kicked off the latest Transformers cartoon, which airs exclusively on the HUB network.  If you don't get HUB or you just want to collect the series then this is your chance.  The Shout Factory brings fans the genesis of this amazing new series to DVD and it is just fantastic!  Any true fan of Transformers will be thrilled with how true to the source material and original feel that this show really is.  The voice acting is great and the animation is fresh.  We highly recommend this one!

Review: Sports fans beware...the ultimate baseball collector's set is here!  The Cardinals managed to win the 2011 World Series, and this fantastic boxed set commemorates their well earned victory.

Review: The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a tear away from the vintage classics that made the Planet of the Apes popular.   This film features a chimp named Caesar who is raised in an experiment as hyper-intelligent. Portrayed expressively by the great Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), Caesar really comes to life!  He cannot speak, but his expressions say it all.  The film focuses on his progression and eventual uprising and leading of the chimps to revolution.  This film is VERY sci-fi, but its cool and modern enough to be accessible by a mass audience, so everyone should be able to enjoy.

Review: We love anime here at the Legion and one of the coolest movies out there is Loups=Garous.  The animation is unique and the plot moves a bit slowly, but its an enjoyable ride.  The film is really fun, the voice actors were solid and the plot has a really nice twist to it.  Don't look for a werewolf film, despite the title!  Another great anime release from Section23 films!

Review: Are we secure in this day and age?  Our post 9-11 world has removed a lot of our civil rights, one of which is that we're constantly being watched in a very big brother type of way.  This show is filmed from the POV of security cameras and captures the dramas and things that happen when we don't think anyone is looking.  The show airs on Showtime and is a good watch.  I found myself getting very caught up in the characters.  The POV was annoying at first, but it grows on you quickly.  The faux-voyeuristic feel of the show is a little exciting and the concept is very thought provoking.

Their intimate drama plays out against the astounding discovery of earth 2 a parallel world that poses provocative and fascinating possibilities. Does a new earth mean a chance at another life? another destiny? another self?

Review: I've seen a ton of sci-fi films and a lot of indie art house movies, but I've never seen one movie that combines the two!  That is the beauty of Another Earth.   This film, based around the deep emotional concepts of grief and regret, is a high-concept philosophical drama.   I have never seen a film that is more unique and different from the status quo.  You get a lot of open ends and bizarre visions that are never resolved...and don't be looking for a tidy clean-up in the end, but if you enjoy artistic film and thought provoking film, then you must see this one.

Review: The History Channel is the absolute best quality resource for war documentaries.  They just released the special collectors edition of WWII in HD and it was absolutely amazing.  Now, we're getting the home video release of Vietnam in HD.  If you thought WWII was intense, Vietnam was all the more tragic and dismal.  This series is another absolute homerun.

This blu-ray release is the high-definition look at Vietnam that you always and never wanted.  The realities of war shine brightly in the cold light of day.  The film overlays very nicely done dramatic voiceovers with real footage from the battles.  We get the tales of 13 men and women involved.   The depth of this six-part documentary truly does justice to the soldiers involved in this terrible war.  I've never seen a special that has come close to the level of realism and emotion that you get from this one.

This would make an amazing Xmas gift for someone!

Review: The Girls Next Door was a crazy reality show.  This look behind the scenes of the Playboy mansion went on for six seasons!   Its hard to believe, but truly people loved this peek inside of this magical world that so many wish they could be a part of.  The lives of not only Hef, but all his bunnies.  This boxed set includes all six seasons, plus a TON of extras. 

Where reality shows are concerned, the more drama and the more vapid the players the better the entertainment...and you don't get more vapid than a Playboy bunny.  If you're searching for a unique Xmas present this season, then you should defintely consider this one, either for yourself or a friend.  This is a fun and bizarre ride through the life of the superficial and insane!  Its a blast.

Review: I want to start by clarifying, this movie is NOT for everyone!  Chillerama is a tribute to the campy and absurd drive-through movies of yesteryear and is very TROMA inspired.  In this blu-ray four films are shown for the very first time and each one is sillier than the first.  My favorite, mostly due to the clever title, is the Diary of Anne Frankenstein.  Hilarious.  If you enjoy Plan-B absolute so bad its great campy b-movies then this blu-ray will be a dream for you.  If you aren't into that then stay away from this film.  This is an instant cult classic in our book and is sure to be passed around and talked about by us film nerds for years to come!

Review: Ok, this one is a chick flick.  I don't mean that in a degrading way by any means, but this one definately appeals to the mass audience of women out there dealing with our generation of deadbeat, videogame playing, unmotivated "men".  This is a nice little dreamland for girls where a guy gets off his ass and really tries.  sigh.  If only, right ladies?  This one is a great one to curl up and watch with your sweetie.  I'd call it cliche, but the actors are great and the film is quite enjoyable.  If you're one of those deadbeat types, maybe skip watching this one with your lady, though.  Just a tip. lol.

Review: There aren't many comedies out there that hit the mark these days.  30 Minutes or Less is one of these few.  The director of Zombieland brings back the dry humor of Jesse Eisenberg and the annoying comedy of Aziz Ansari for this great buddy-flick.  The laughs are solid and the humor keeps strong throughout the entire film.  Although we'd rather they were just spending their time and money on Zombieland 2, where it belongs, this one is a fun diversion.

Synopsis: Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids. When one of the students gets separated from her friends, the boys try to lend a hand, but as the misunderstanding grows, so does the body count.

Review: Ok, I'm going to start this review by saying LOVE IT!  This spoof-horror flick is an absolutely fabulous satire on the crazed hillbilly slasher flick genre.   This one stars Alan Tudyk as one of the hillbillies..he is a long-standing favorite of ours from flicks like Dodgeball and the british Death at A Funeral.  The film is full of misunderstandings and crazy events that make two lovable hillbillies look like psycho killers...and the deaths keep piling up!  This one is an instant cult classic...think Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.  We HIGHLY recommend it.

Synopsis: Inspired by the classic film My Dinner With Andre. Trigger is the story of two lifelong friends, Victoria and Kathryn, who started a neighborhood band together sort of like the Go-Go s meet Patti Smith with a little Siouxie and the Banshees thrown in. Sticking to their rock n roll dream, they traded up bands until they began to have real success with a hit single and a European tour. On the tour, however, things went downhill and the band. Now, it s 10 years later and a local record label is having a benefit concert to honor women in rock; Vic and Kat are expected to attend. After their decade-long estrangement, the two women come together for dinner, the concert, and the after-party, with the chance and hope of recapturing their once-magical connection.

Review: What happens when the music stops?  This great drama revisists a band duo a decade after they broke up and deals with the emotions they never did.  Vic and Kat are reunited and quickly the reasons they were apart become clearer and clearer.  This emotional drama takes us on a different road than the beaten path of most films.  Ironically, the film is rather devoid of music, but its great watch.

This fresh cult hit co-stars Jennifer Coolidge, John Waters, Leslie Jordan, Heather Matarazzo and Deborah Theaker.

Review: I want to start by saying that Mangus is NOT for everyone.  Thats not a bad thing, but it is a fact.  If you're into bizarre campy art house 70s-style John Waters film, then this one is for you.  If you're not, then you probably won't understand Mangus.  This film is trashy, bizarre and hilarious..in fact it even includes a cameo of Waters himself...playing Jesus.  Thats right.  This one is a must-see for cult film lovers.

Review: Mr. Popper's Penguins is based on the famous children's novel of the same name.  I remember loving it as a kid, so I was excited to share this film with my own family.  The animal nuts in our house (which is all of us) went crazy over the penguins.  The tone was mostly light and family friendly.  The basic premise reminds me of another of Carey's greats, "Liar, Liar".  He plays a shrewd businessman with no time for his kids and by the end the penguins teach him many lessons, including the importance of his own family.  This one is a keeper and Carey is hilarious, as always.

Review: We love stand-up comedy here at the Legion.  We're rather picky about what we watch these days, since we've sat through SO much bad stand-up over the years.  Carlos Mencia is a rather controvertial comic who seems to have personal issues with a lot of other comedians.  That aside, the guy is funny.  He's hilarious, usually.  We love his continually edgy work.  New Territory is more of the same..tons of racial humor and lots of laughs abound.  We highly recommend this one.

Review: Feinstein brings us the magic of Sinatra's music in his own unique way with this live concert blu-ray.  The sound is great and the tone is fantastic.  This is a brief, but fun watch.

Review: The Beethoven series began when I was young and I used to love these films..at least the first few.  The franchise is reborn with the Xmas Adventure DVD for the next generation.  This franchise could easily compare with the Disney "Buddies" franchise now that Beethoven (wait for it) is now a talking dog!   I wasn't sure how I felt about that at first, but I quickly warmed to the concept.  This Xmas movie is an instant classic...its funny, charming and great for any family!  We highly recommend this one.

Synopsis: Paul Rudd stars in this witty and highly relatable comedy about that one family member who is always just a little bit behind the curve. For sisters Miranda (Elizabeth Banks), Natalie (Zooey Deschanel), and Liz (Emily Mortimer) that person is their upbeat brother Ned, an organic farmer whose willingness to rely on honesty and trusting of humankind allows for a trouble-free existence. Ned may be utterly lacking in common sense, but he is their brother and after his girlfriend dumps him and boots him off the farm, his sisters once again come to his rescue. As Liz, Emily and Natalie each take a turn at housing Ned, their brother's unfailing commitment to honesty creates more than a few messes in their comfortable routines. But after seeing life through Ned’s optimistic perspective, his family comes to realize that maybe, Ned isn't such an idiot after all.

Review: Paul Rudd really shines in one of the few films that has given him the opportunity to be a lead character.  I mean, this guy had an early role on FRIENDS, went on do to other great films like Knocked Up, the 40 Year Old Virgin and Forgetting Sarah Marshall...and yet I still feel like he's super underrated.  Our Idiot Brother has an amazing cast with the likes of Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel (who is hotter than ever with her "The New Girl" show on Fox).  The girls are hilarious and Rudd is charmingly sweet.  This comedy is a bit predictable and cliche at moments, but the chemistry of the actors makes it all worth while.

Review: The Jetsons was one of the coolest cartoons on the air back in the 1960s.  This space-age version of the Flintstones gave us a look into what people thought would be the distant future.  The charm of the show, much like the Flintstones, is that George Jetson and family encountered the same universal type of issues that we all face.  This DVD release from the Warner Archive continues the already released seasons with Season Two, Volume Two.  This is available only online at the Wbshop.com website.  The show is absolutlely charming and still fun to watch with our kids.  The picture looks fantastic and the sound is great.  This DVD is a must-have for any Jetsons fan!
