Synopsis: Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people, epicenter of a sprawling empire. But now, the city's foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess...And two soldiers unwittingly become entwined in historical events, their fates inexorably tied to the fate of Rome itself. The entire award-winning, critically-acclaimed series will be available as a Blu-ray gift set, just in time for the holiday season.

Review: The epic scale in which the series Rome was produced is still so very impressive to me. That HBO took so much effort to portray the grand scale of history is definately something to stand up and take notice of. This series, which consisted of two seasons and a total of 22 episodes, delved into a realistic look back at what was. The themes of profanity, violence, betrayl and intense dysfunction amongst families.

The mini-series was actually shot at a studio in Rome. The first season dealt with Caesar's civil war of 49 B.C. against the traditionalist conservative faction in the Roman senate, his rise to dictator and his eventual fall. The second season handles the aftermath of Caesar's death and the power struggle between Mark Anthony and Octavian.

The two seasons were released previously on DVD, but have now been collected into one set on blu-ray disc. To see this mini-series in high-definition is not to be missed. In fact, its the only way that you should experience it. This is the ultimate set to add to your collection.

Rating: A STRONG 5 out of 5 stars
