You Don't Know Jack DVD Review

Synopsis: Angel of mercy… or murderous “Doctor Death”? Jack Kervorkian is one of the most polarizing figures in modern American history, a man whose passionate belief that people have the right to die has brought him both praise and vilification. Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning actor Al Pacino brings “Dr. Death” to life in an all-new HBO Films presentation: You Don’t Know Jack, directed by Oscar®-winner Barry Levinson.

Review: HBO has been famous for bringing fantastic television shows, movies and specials to us over the years.  Often what they bring is controvertial and original.  Enter: You Don’t Know Jack.  You Don’t Know Jack is based on the life of one of the most controvertial figures of the 20th century…Dr. Jack Kevorkian, known to some as “Doctor Death” and to others and Angel of Mercy.

The Life of Jack Kevorkian is a fascinating one.  He got more publicity in his day, primarily negative, than anyone of the era.  His struggle to assist the dying and to let them die in peace with dignity was based on the struggles of his own mother and sister, as he explains in the opening of the film.  Al Pacino does a magnificent job of portraying Jack in this rather sympathetic take on his life.

This film is a magnificent watch.  I highly recommend it to anyone.

Interest Range: Drama, Biopic
