Mother and Child Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: From writer-director Rodrigo Garcia (TV'S Big Love, ) and executive producer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel) comes the moving story of three women and the power of the unbreakable bond between mother and child. Three women's lives share a common core: the have all been profoundly affected by adoption. Karen (Annette Bening) placed a baby for adoption at age 14 and has been haunted ever since by the daughter she never knew. Elizabeth (Naomi Watts) grew up as an adopted child; she's a bright and ambitious lawyer, but a flinty loner in her personal life. Lucy (Kerry Washington) and her husband are just embarking on the adoption odyssey, hoping for the opportunity to become parents.

Review: When you sit down to watch a drama based on the lives of three women you expect a certain formula.  This Lifetime-movie feel-good life affirming traveling pants sort of formula.  What you get from Mother and Child is an in-depth and emotional look at how adoption can affect someone's life.  They always say that adoption is a great alternative, but the realities are that people feel mixed about it on both sides.  There can be regret and anger from both mother and child.  This film does what no other I've seen has, explores this idea with different women to a very emotional and thought provoking end.  We highly recommend checking this one out, it may surprise you.

Interest Range: Drama
