Garrow's Law: Series 3 DVD Review

Synopsis: At the Old Bailey, pioneering barrister William Garrow (Andrew Buchan, Cranford) continues to fight for prisoners' rights, an uphill battle in 18th-century England. The French Revolution has made the state more determined than ever to hold on to power, and Garrow’s own circumstances are dire. Now living with Lady Sarah Hill (Lyndsey Marshal, Rome), he is impoverished and ostracized by his peers. Separated from her husband, the vengeful MP Sir Arthur Hill (Rupert Graves, Sherlock, The Forsyte Saga), Lady Sarah has no rights in the eyes of the law. On top of it all, Garrow's mentor and friend, John Southouse (Alun Armstrong, Little Dorrit, New Tricks), takes ill.

The cases Garrow takes are especially risky. Defending a would-be assassin of King George III, he challenges the legal definition of madness. He also exposes weavers' horrible working conditions and puts British colonial governance on trial. Meanwhile, a proposition tests Garrow's professional integrity—but could give Lady Sarah what she desperately desires.

Review:  This show, for those that haven't had the pleasure of seeing it, is a british drama based on Garrow, who was one of the original barristers from the 1700s.  Series 3 is basically a collection of four episodes that each feature an interesting and challenging legal situation for the day.  Unfortunately, this DVD represents the last that we'll ever see of this show, as it was cancelled, despite solid ratings over in the UK.  This one is historically interesting with great backdrops and costumes..not to mention the language used, but its quite a fantastic take on the true historic character of Garrow.  The cases mostly deal with murder and corruption..themes we still see on our legal shows today.

Interest Range: British TV, Drama
