JEM And The Holograms: Season One DVD Review

Synopsis: Jem and the Holograms is an animated TV series that ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication to millions of young viewers. The show revolves around Jerrica, a music company owner and Jem, her glamorous pop singer alter-ego. Jerrica is able to transform into Jem with the help of a unique computer system that can create realistic holograms of virtually anything. By her side are band members The Holograms who sing their way through many worldwide adventures while rival bands (such as The Misfits) try to steal their spotlight.

Review: Jem and the Holograms was one of the coolest cartoons to come out of the 1980s.  It took an entire generation and showed them an alternative to Barbie...dyed hair, wild make-up..it very clearly inspired a whole generation of girls to go a more alternative route with their fashion (club kids, goth kids, etc.).  The show still holds up, which you cannot say about a lot of vintage cartoons.  The animation is solid, the voice acting is great and the stories are fun.  If you recall, the bands would break into song during each story and a music video would ensue about whatever moral dilema was on the table for the day.  The music is a bit dated, but thats to be expected!  Overall, this is an amazing release and a must-have!

This DVD release represents the first season of the show, and we cannot wait to see the subsequent seasons released soon from Shout Factory!  The special features on this DVD include: Video jukebox

Interest Range: Vintage Animation, Cult Classics
