A Beautiful Life DVD Review

Synopsis: On the rough streets of Los Angeles, an unlikely romance is born when Maggie (Angela Sarafyan), a down-on-her-luck runaway, runs into a kindhearted illegal immigrant, David (QuinceaƱera’s Jesse Garcia), trying to make a new home away from El Salvador as a nightclub busboy. Together they begin an unforgettable journey involving a host of colorful characters including philosophical stripper (The Crow’s Bai Ling) and a sassy, unusual librarian (Goodfellas’ Debi Mazar). Also featuring Dana Delaney (Desperate Housewives) and Jonathan LaPaglia (Cold Case), this unforgettable indie gem is a story of lost souls finding their way in the city of dreams.

Review: The essential plot of this film is one of those dramas that you've seen before.  Its this slice of life style city drama that is completely character driven.  The nice thing about this particular one is that the characters happen to be very good.  The actors chosen are widely unknown (with the exception of Bai Ling) and this makes for a nice blank slate of expectations.  Overall, it was a bit of a cliche flick, but not unenjoyable.  Its a nice watch.

Interest Range: Drama
