Synopsis: Five teenage friends living on one street all dream of a sinister man with a disfigured face, a frightening voice and a gardener's glove with knives for fingers. One by one, he terrorizes them within their dreams--where the rules are his and the only way out is to wake up. But when one among them dies, they soon realize that what happens in their dreams happens for real and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. Buried in their past is a debt that has just come due. To save themselves, they must plunge into the mind of the most twisted nightmare of all: Freddy Krueger. Jackie Earle Haley plays the legendary evildoer in this contemporary reimagining of the seminal horror classic.

Review: Its funny, when I was growing up in the early 1980s the term classic horror referred to Dracula and Frankenstein.  Now, when we discuss classic horror its the Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13th film franchieses!  This is because the horror market has been so saturated over the past 30 years that the original pioneers of slasher flicks are now the classics, never to be shown-up again, except perhaps by modern marvels like Saw.  It is due to this classic status that we've seen re-makes produced by Michael Bay over the past few years, the same man responsible for the Transformers film franchise.  Everything from Texas Chainsaw Massacre to Friday the 13th has been re-visited...even Rob Zombie remade Halloween!

They definately saved the best for last.  A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of those film franchises that was begging for a re-launch.  This time around, we get a new actor playing Freddy..none other than the uber-creepy Jackie Earle Haley.   This first film is a great tribute to the series and definately sets a serious tone for further sequels, a tone that was lost in the original series.

The special features on the blu-ray include: Freddy Krueger Reborn: Dare to witness how this stylish reinvention of a classic pays homage to the original and also gives fans a wicked new scare, Maniacal Movie Mode, with alternate opening, alternate ending, and a deleted scene
