Jonah Hex DVD Review

Jonah Hex DVD Review

Synopsis: Out of the pages of the legendary comics and graphic novels steps Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin), a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort who can track anyone... and anything. Having survived death, Jonah's violent history is steeped in myth and legend and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side." His one human connection is with Lilah (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah's past catches up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: to wipe out the warrants on his head, he must hunt and stop dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, now gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah's oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead.

Review: Jonah Hex is a long-standing Dc Comics character.  He has interacted with the likes of Batman on a regular basis and has even been featured in a number of Batman cartoons, including the fan favorites Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited.  This new live-action take on the character had a lot of history to live-up to...how does it fare?

I have to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of this film.  Why?  The casting really ruins it for me.  There is nothing wrong with Josh Brolin, although he isn't nearly disfigured enough to be Hex, but that awful excuse for an actress Megan Fox curses this film to obscurity.  Her "acting" is breathy and weak and she's not nearly as attractive as she seems to think she is.  She honestly ruins this entire film.  A few stand-out positive notes..John Malcovich is always fantastic and honestly Brolin does do a very nice job on the grim character.

If you're a huge Hex fan you may be disappointed.  If you're a casual movie-goer, this one may be just fine for you, though I have a hard time recommending it.

Interest Range: Dc Comics, Action/Adventure
