The King's Speech Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: After the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon) and the scandalous abdication of King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce), Bertie (Colin Firth) who has suffered from a debilitating speech impediment all his life, is suddenly crowned King George VI of England. With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond. With the support of Logue, his family, his government and Winston Churchill (Timothy Spall), the King will overcome his stammer and deliver a radio-address that inspires his people and unites them in battle. Based on the true story of King George VI, THE KING'S SPEECH follows the Royal Monarch's quest to find his voice.
Review: The King's Speech is a great historical drama.  Its worth is balanced as much on the back of the amazing cast as it does on the story itself.  The historical drama based on King George VI includes the stellar talents of Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush and the uncomparable Colin Firth.  This film has been recognized through various awards this year and its very clear that the moviegoing public has backed this one, so we wanted to give it a good watch and try to be as critical as possible.  Here at the Legion we don't buy into hype!  The cold hard reality is that this is a well-made film.  The core greatness of this story is seeing such a powerful and fantastic historical figure full of power be so flawed and having to overcome such a human condition.  We can't recommend this one enough for the entire family!

Interest Range: Drama, Academy Award Winning
