Review: I'm a longtime fan of the Alien franchise, as are many from my generation.  The director of the very first Alien film, Ridley Scott, returns to the franchise to provide fans with a prequel of sorts to the universe that eventually produces the Alien creatures.  Scott has been very careful to not label this film as a prequel, because the events are still 100 years from the events that take place in Alien, but when you watch the film there is enough to give a serious Alien fan their fix.  The film gives us everything from early androids to the Weyland corporation and early evolutions of the Alien being.  I went into this one with an open mind and I must say that I was blow away visually.  The little CGI they use and the amazing sets are a sight to behold.  This film makes me wish Scott was doing an actual Alien film again, because the visuals are SO phenominal.  Beyond that, the actors in the film are rounded out by Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron.  They both hand in a great performance.  If the film has any fatal flaw its that it rushes itself.  They should have taken more time to endear us to the lead character Elizabeth, played by Noomi Rapace.  The film definately does take time to explore its own mythology and sci-fi questions, and the ending leaves us open for further explanation, so hopefully that does happen.  The film has some great action...great visuals...and even some great, albeit obligitory, creature-enduced death.  Overall, we definately recommend this one.

Interest Range: Sci-Fi, Action
